Yesterday I ran one without watchtower. I got really low elite spawn rate, couldnt find any dungeon and less than 5 elites in the entire halls of agony run.

Much higher gear requirement than act 2 goblin farming though.
act 3 has been really bad for me after the patch, dono why. I start at Azmo and go backwards, and out of 20+ rares usually 50% will be iLvl 50-59 and the rest (60-62 usually, 63s are super rare now) will be absolute garbage. Really discouraging, pre patch I seemed to get a lot more stuff that could actually sell when farming A3..

Bashiok said they felt act3 ilvl drop rates were too low and their "looking into it". It was pretty much ninja nerfed since patch 1.0.3
that explains how my friend who's been running Act1/2 has gotten an Andariels, a +Crit chance/+Crit damage/ +IAS amulet (30 mil) and lots of other 1 mil+ stuff post 1.0.3, while I have gotten absolutely nothing running Act 3, so yeah.. time to start mass pulling in act 1/2.
or he just farms more than you (or luckier). None of those items have a higher drop chance in act 1/2. Being lucky with stat rolls is a matter of commitment. Farm long enough and you will get something good.

Im gonna start doing watchtower checks too lol
Yesterday I had a watchtower with 5 elite packs AND a resplended chest... and had 4 treasure goblins combined in the cemetary crypts.. most insane run I ever had (too bad no spectacular drops from all of it)

Well, it wasn't really a stealth nerf. More like a sneaky nerf since they did say ilevel63 drop rate for Act 3/4 would be 8%. Blizzard just never stated what the original percentage was. Obviously, it was higher then 8% so that is why people aren't getting as much ilevel63 stuff. Act 3 is still much better then Act2 and Act1 if you can kill at similiar speeds. Problem is act 3 is a lot harder and Act 1 elites are more 'stable' and easy to find. So you ilevel63 per hour is actually much closer than the 8% to 2% suggests (Act 2 is even worse because the maps are open and it really depends on your luck). Having said that, IF you outgear Act 3 by a lot, it is still more efficient to farm there. But if you have a hard time killing Act 3 mobs, Act2 (and most likely Act 1) is a lot less stressful and more efficient. Having said that, not sure if there needs to be a fix since people farmed Mephisto for the most optimal loot in Diablo 2 as well and he was not the hardest content.

meph couldnt drop alot of really good things and people stopped doing him later on.
also ofc it needs a fix since if there is no reason to gear up and do real content cause faceroll act1 is best then there is something wrong.
Aren't all those half-assed runs pretty bad? I read people farming single elites and then creating a new game... I always try to get as many elites as possible to benefit from nephalem valor buff without going to dungeons which have barely any elites.
I always go this one:
1) Check Cathredral lvl 3 waypoint, if there is an elite nearby kill it. If not, go to 2). 2) Go to the Cemetry of the Forsaken waypoint, if there is an elite nearby go for it. If not, go to 3). 3) Festering woods, clear the two tombs and check for 2, possibly 3 more elites and a goblin. The goblin is there like 50% of the time or even more, although not always easy to find. 4) Go for the WP close to Southern highlands and clear all the way until the Butcher. But some tombs are better left out, like the Lyceum.
Thoughts? Playing a monk and mostly ignoring whitemobs unless there are tons of them. Although my luck isn't really good... i find decent amounts of ilvl62 or 63 items, but they always suck like lvl 52 items. And to be honest it isn't as fun as farming bosses in Diablo 2 where you could find Set items / Uniques which are useful (even if the chance was low). I sort of dislike the fact that Diablo 3 is patched around the AH, but i guess that one will not change as long as the AH is there. Either way, we need Deckard Cain back for identification, the whole cast time for identification sucks.
Do you guys also have 1 friend who plays 10 times less but allways ends up with 10 times better items? Been running act1 all evening yesterday, got 1 ilvl62, rest under , out of 2 full stashpages. My friend comes online and joins my party just before I do jailer again. We find a gobo, im on 5 stacks he's on none. We kill the gobo he gets a sick ilvl63 ring, we kill a bluepack after he gets sick ilvl63 gloves. I got... 4 rares ilvl55.... aaaaaaaaa
Glad my friend is just playing for fun, I get his leftovers
I've been unlucky with farming. I farmed act 1 inferno for a bit and got junk. I got lvl 63 drops at times, but they were shit blues or I get a weapon with decent stats and it's 200 dps or something low! I stopped farming act 1 cause the ranges on the rolls are too low that I never got anything good. I started farming act 2 now and still not getting anything great.
The place I've been farming is desert oasis from the soul stone checkpoint. A bunch of elites in the desert and then all the dungeons there have a lot of elites. Go to vault of the assassin's and I once got 8 elites in there. Then you can do the other dungeons there like caves of betrayal (I think) and another dungeon. A bunch of elites in those caves too, then you can go kill kulle and after that do another area if you want.

Urgh, those are by far my least favourite levels. Those colossi looking fire-shooting enemies on those levels are just a huuuge pain to kill. I prefer Act3 or Act4 over them mostly... But it might depend on the class you play.

There is a "Vault of the Assassin" run and it goes like this:
1) Sewers of Caldeum : 1 Pack 2) Black Canyon Mines + Howling Plateau : 3-6 Packs 3) Road to Alcarnus : Goblin (?) + 1-2 Packs 4) Ancient Path : Goblin (?) 5) Vault of the Assassin : 7-12 Packs Takes about 30 minutes or less.
The first run you do you need to look for the VotA spawn. When you leave, make sure your checkpoint is that the start/end in the VotA. The next runs you do, you spawn in the VotA when you create game. TP and use waypoints to get to the elites/goblins in 1-4. Remember NOT to TP when in other areas or you will have to find the VotA again.
