For me, esports does not go higher than 4v4.

As a long-time dota nerd, I'm fine with that but do find it kinda rude to Counterstrike.

(Legitimately I find Counterstrike esports to be some of the most fun to watch, and I don't even play that game)

To be honest I don't enjoy 1vs1 games because they became too much of the same quite quickly. You just keep fine tuning your strategy and random factors are few. Multiple players means the game will play out more differently on average and thus require more large choices.

Sense of belonging during games probably matter. Team games just feel so different than 1v1 multiplayer games.

Idk if it just me but team games also elicit higher stress when losing or getting rekt but when you are winning it feels so good. Fairly different than 1v1 games like fighting games, broodwar etc
