Wetty, the Earth Ally actually has an attack that taunts. I know people seem to like the air ally, but I prefer Earth for the active taunt and extra health.
As for Dashing Strike, you can always get out of a pack, as you'll always end up on the opposite side of the enemy you are targeting. But I agree that this skill gets worse the more latency you have. It will simply whiff on most moving targets (goblins included) and not aim reliably. I wish they'd fix it.
I think I underestimated how hard it is to get good attack speed. But I remember when I had a 1.2as mace, it still prevented most mobs from attacking simply because of how fast FoT hits. I was using Lightning Flash though, which allows you to more easily keep the enemies at a distance and not always be right in the middle of the pack. Having a low AS is always a problem for a monk, however. Below 1.6 you'll run out of spirit easily, and your LoHit will need to be much higher. I'm now up to 2.45AS and more is simply better. It also helps to get out of desecrates/molten/plague when you lag...

I've been using Air Ally under the assumption that it spreads Resolve with its AOE. I tried to spread Resolve around with MoC:Submission, but that is only 20yards...most ranged attacks attack from 24yards+ and in Act 3 there isn't a lot of room to move and you don't really want to just run further in just to try get submission burning the ranged mobs...
The Air Ally seems to run around like a pre-schooler with ADD, so it does a pretty darn good job of spreading Resolve without having to sacrifice a defensive mantra

Anyone tried the Life per spirit spent and IAS combo? With 45% faster attackspeed and 100-120~ Life per spirit it seems like you can heal yourself for 5-6k alot.. Seems a ton better than Life on hit as thats nerfed 80% on INF

Life on hit works as advertised in inferno. Life per % damage is the one that is reduced.

hey guys!
im currently running pretty much a full tank build with 50k life/ 11k armor (with hard target and keen eye up in combat)/ 700 ar/525 loh/1.83 as/17.5k dps with breath of heaven rune up
doing siegebreaker runs with friends, and i'm surprisingly tanky and it's all doable. but i pretty much havent tried anything else other than the 1h + shield combo, since act1 inferno.
I like being useful, and my dps friends love having me with them because i tank like a boss, but I pretty much can't play solo (won't would actually be a better word, I just kill stuff too slow)
what kind of stats/skills should I aim for for act3/4 to be playable/tankable with DW?
|
Once they fix the IAS bug on items in 1.03, my atk speed will be 3.3, 25k dps (43k with buff) with 1000 LoH (finally grabbed a weapon!) I'll test out if being full offensive is viable with CCs in inferno, my armor is only 6k, all res 500, and HP at 35k so defensively I am totally undergeared. I'll test stuff out in act 3. That being said, I have to change my skills for main bosses like belial cuz he one shots me if i don't bring earth ally and spec entirely in dmg reduction lol

The loot in A1 inferno isnt particularly good, no better than anything in late hell. If your having trouble with late hell, I'd just recommend going backwards to somewhere you feel comfortable with. NV buff makes a pretty big difference to your income now that you've reached 60, so even if your just farming hell for drops and most of them get vendored, you'll be receiving much more loot and gold drops, and that will build up your cash pretty quick. Make a concious effort to save gold towards a weapon, try to get something around the 700-800 dps range, just a blue will work fine to get you started further along towards then end of hell and the beginning of inferno. Farming act 3 hell may even find you some useful gear when you start finding more due to NV buff. Regardless, I believe its better to work on something you can do with relative ease, rather than dying continually in harder content for a not much greater reward.
Vendoring white items is basically a waste right? They are like 5 gold...

White items?? No, you wouldnt pick those up... Farming them for magic item/rare item drops and vendoring those... The majority of what you find is useless, and you cant sell that much loot on the AH even if you tried because of the 10 auction limit. So your collecting magical/rare items and vendoring those for gold, along with gold pickups, for much higher income than you would have experienced doing the content previously. Sorry if that wasnt clear.

I'm poor and/or bad; if anyone wouldn't mind spending the time quick gear check. ![](/mirror/smilies/puh2.gif) + Show Spoiler +

Change all but the helm vit gems in to dex. (Vit #1 overrated monk stat the number feels nice but doesn't help all that much) Attack speed on second ring and gloves should really improve your DPS.
The shield is good but a higher armour/20% block one would be nice if you could farm one.
The life on hit and armour and resists are pretty good but pathetically low DPS and attack speed. Consider upgrading your weapon to the highest DPS socket you can find for around 1 mil ish and drop the extra life on hit it would probably server you better. You can keep the amulet and star amethsy for life on hit until you sort your DPS out attack speed and dex are priority.

i assume you are in act 3 right? your dps is awfully low and it is because of your attack speed which renders your significant life on hit less effective you might want to lose some LoH in exchange for +atk speed prefixes on the ring / amulet / gloves.
your significant vit score is also wasted because of the lack of +life% items at this point so all those socketed gems could be giving you much more vitality, getting a shoulders or shield with +12% life for example would improve your health score tremendously. your resistance are also... well this is purely personal preference but i would recommend taking up OWE and dropping transcendence since you already have LoH, you can just pick your highest resist atm (lightning) and build your next tier of gear around that .
the most urgent item i would change.....at around the 500k range.....the shield perhaps? try to get at least 19% block, iirc any rare shield that isn't a storm shield is pretty cheap these days.

Hey, I have recently solo killed diablo and I am now looking to solo farm elites in act 3/4 I am doing it with ease at the moment because of tyrael but am preparing for when they take him out / nerf him, Any idea of what stats I need to drop / gain?
http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/8441/statsjv.png
Those are my Stats, the only thing activated is Boon of healing with the resistance rune, without that activated I have 960 Res.

But your gear is pretty good otherwise. Your resists are really high for someone without OwE. If you can find another weapon with 600+ LoHit, you might want to try the dual wielding Resolve/Seize/Dodge build, since your shield is really bad anyway.
Basically, the LoHit of your weapon adds up, so you would get a faster attack speed with 1500+ LoHit, and you make up for the shield with the 15% dodge passive. You won't need Transcendence with so much LoHit and improved attack speed. With Mantra of Evasion, you'll have 60%+ dodge all the time, which is great considering you'll heal so much.
Try to get your hands on a 650+dps, 200dex, 500+LoHit. It should take your dps up to 13k+ and keep your survivability through insane LoHit/Dodge. Elites will be really bursty when you're unlucky on dodges, but that's what you have blind/serenity for. Good Luck!

guys which has more dps, monk or barbarian? weeks ago it's monk>barbarian but after watching barbarian videos with their fast attack speeds, it seems that barbarians>monks damage wise.

I think at the start of inferno, monks>barbs, but as soon as you start getting gear that has both damage and survivability, barbs outscale monks pretty hard.

Am I not ready for Act 3 or something? I'm having so much trouble. I still get like 1 hit by soul rippers, half the blues I find are unkillable and I have to reload... There are many things I cant avoid such as getting walled into some sort of AoE... Is this just how inferno works or am I incredibly undergeared?
I'm currently in level 2 of the breached keep in Act 3 Part 3, getting really annoyed...undergeared?

Nope. You have much better gear than me(almost double my dext and 10k more health holy crap), and equivalent resists, but I think all you really need to do is buy a new weapon with higher attack speed. I deal with soulrippers(non-unique) simply by running in, baiting the tongue, and then using FoT(thunderclap) to stunlock them to death. Half the blues unkillable is just part of the game, I just lure them into a corner if I can't kill them and ignore them.

I pretty much am able to solo all of act 3 with tyrael so far. Had some problems with dying and running back to a mob thats too far away before berserk. Other than that I solo'd every elite I came across... Maybe not the fast molten invulnerable minions soul rippers though.
Stats un buffed + Show Spoiler + Buffed + Show Spoiler +
I'm kinda wondering if I should upgrade this though. I never see any weapons I want anymore. Would be nice to find a weapon with same stats + a slot for a Amethyst. To me 20 Life on Spirit can be treated the same as 300 life on hit. But since I tend to be running away to lure into corridors more for a3, the LoS is probably better. Weapon + Show Spoiler +
I'm stuck on what to improve now; all my gear is about 1m+ My belt is 127 dex/44 F. Resists/51 All resists. I don't know if a string of ears is better, since I'm mainly having trouble surviving spells even such as a plagued ground.

picked up + Show Spoiler + and swapped in a dex/ias ring and can now do 5nef runs quite comfortably in act3

can't really say what items specifically to improve on if we can't see the stats on your individual items :p
if you are prepping for act 4, i would say more HP, more resist, more life on hit. with 36k hp and at that level of resist i am about 90% sure you will get one shot by a blinking elite oppressor. if you have a lot of gold, i would suggest a 900+ dps, 900 LoH weapon but i think your damage is fine and you might actually want to consider just buying another weapon with 800 dps with 900 LoH. also, try using deadly reach + LoH (if you ain't already), it is REALLY effective for kiting as well and makes fighting any elite mob easier and i believe it tops any life on spirit build.
i can give you some advice on string of ears though: it works, melee reduction is a pretty decent stat to have. my monk has been running with it since act 2 and i have never taken it off. here is what my stats look like + Show Spoiler +
