I see a lot of barbs with echoing fury in their offhand and the butcher's sickle for a mainhand...does that work well? I guess the fear would be ok if you could immediately pull them back to you lol. The butcher sickle is okay because it comes with crit damage and life steal, which is a good start when talking about desirable stats on weapons. Then, it only needs to roll strength and a socket to be an excellent weapon. As a result, if you search on the AH for axes with strength, socket, lifesteal and crit damage while sorting by dps, the list will be heavily dominated by sickles, and with this much supply the price will consequently be a bit lower.
However, the butcher's sickle is not an ideal choice. For an axe or mace mainhand, your attack speed should either be at 1.2 to get as much base damage as possible, or be an IAS weapon at around 1.4+ if you want to hit a higher tick breakpoint with the mainhand. If you go for the faster weapon though, you will probably not be able to get lifesteal on that weapon, so there are some decisions to be made. The sickle itself is at 1.3, which makes it not suited for either breakpoint.

I'm also thinking my weaps need upgrades, but they're so hard to find imo. I'm hoping you guys can help me chose what to upgrade next My budget is around 25m atm, but I might save some up if needed. Profile: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/maze-2895/hero/201478 Your at a really hard stage right now w/ somewhat such a low budget, esp since as you stated your vit is EXTREMELY low. I am sure your at the point where you don't want to sacrafice STR either...But in all honesty w/ a budget that low I don't see a way around it. Where as an IK chest is nice in my opinion you don't need it right now, If I were you and your dieying a lot due to super low vit, some new shoulders w/ vit would do you wonders. Might have to drop a lot of str to do it...maybe 4-6k dps. But some decent vile's or even a rare set of shoulders w/ around 100+ vit would be great for you. Which is very feasible w/ only 25m.
Okay thanks for the advice, even though it wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear Actually I'm surviving quite well in mp4-mp5 (prolly due to my AR and almost 9% LS) so i don't really wanna give up the strength on my vilewards for more vit i think. Would your advice change if I bumped my budget to 50-60 mil?

How come String of Ears went out of fashion? Just curious, since it's so much melee reduction on one item means it's less reduced by the multiplicative adding of such stats, than say 4% here and 5% there.

Belts can have 200+ strength, 70+ AR, vit, a skill bonus and lifesteal. The IK belt gets a set bonus too. Alternatively, a witching hour can give attack speed and crit damage.
When the string of ears was popular, people had a lot of trouble even getting to act 3+ where you could get ilvl 63 items, and often resorted to cheesy farming techniques like breaking destructibles or running to chests. These days, every item has ilvl 63 affixes and people farm at high speed with max MF, so it's much easier to find superior belts.

the game in general switched from survival to damage dealing and string of ears isn't very good for dealing damage

Hi, I am a poor wizard, with a barb friend that has even lower budget than I do, and I'd like to help him gear up a bit. I don't have more than about 1M in cash atm, but I found a 2h mace with over 1400dps, +200 str and +100CD that maybe could be useful for him? It has very low attack speed, like 0.9 or so. I found a few other things for him as well, but nothing really valuable.
Maybe someone can link me to a somewhat updated guide on how to gear a barb with a very low budget? Or give me some tips in here. Should I try to build him around the 2h mace I found, or is it better to just get some 1h weapons for about 100k each?
What stats am I looking for as a barb? how should my str/vit ratio look? Is cc and ias important to proc critical hits for a barb like it is for a CM/WW build, or is it more a matter of just getting dps like an archon? What builds are good for such a low budget?
He has almost given up on D3 (due to AH as everyone else...) and I want to build a toon for him that he can use to farm alkaizer runs (mp0 is fine) at decent speed, if possible, to show him that it you actually find valuable stuff every now and then. Thanks for any help, dear barbarian cousins.
may the daemons you kill build mountains, and the loot you find be full of useful stats /Wizard cousin

Rend with bloodlust is king for low gear levels. If you use the "time left" sorting on AH, you can get decent gear quite cheap, at like 10-25k for each item. Look for Strength, Armor and Resist. Crit is nice for WW or Hammer builds, but not really needed for Rend. An 18-20% String of ears or Thundergod's gives a lot of survivability for little cost (<100k). The mace you found will do very well, but you might even get more mileage out of it from selling it, check AH prices for similar items. Edit: also, vitality is pretty meh IMO. Nice for higher MP, but really only needed at 5+.

may the daemons you kill build mountains, and the loot you find be full of useful stats /Wizard cousin For reference, I recently geared this barb for 800k gold (on EU): http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/MrAndryx-2947/hero/1826155
Search for defensive stats (str/vit/res) at least on shoulders, chest, belt and pants. Shoulders and belt can roll up to 300str, chest and pants up to 300vit + socket. Aim for 900-1000vit and as much strenght as you can afford. Offensive stats (mainly cc, then ias) on rings, gloves, weapon, offhand. Get the cheapest Strongarm Bracers, they're good (maybe look for a bonus resistance, or life regen). Life on hit and cd on weapon are good for low geared barbs. Boots and helm are in the middle, movement speed socket and cc are nice but a bit expensive (I opted for Fire Walkers as you can see). Amulets can roll 300+ main stat, so 150str/150vit/8%cc or something like that is very cheap.
You can give the cheapest Maximus to a follower, the demon it spawns deals a significant amount of damage (30k per shot IIRC).

MP0 is fine I guess, get an offhand weapon and teach your friend how to play sprint-WW if he wants to be faster. Anyway, in a couple runs he will find enough gold to get an upgrade, so whatever. If he can't be "decent" right now he will be in a week.

Can anyone point me which way should I go on upgrades here? I just got lucky and ended up with 50mil but I have no idea where to go now.

I can farm MP6 keys and MP5 ubers with ease. I am hoping this amount of gold might help push me to MP8.
Also, I don't want to drop the pickup radius under 7 yards nor the move speed under 24% but I'm at a loss on where are they most efficient.

weapon could probably use the biggest upgrade. i would suggest an echoing fury with socket and str for your price range but it is debatable because of the annoying fear proc. If you don't mind losing the exp bonus you could also upgrade your hellfire ring into a str vit ring with some crit dmg and or chance. apart from that it is a little hard for me to find how you can get a cost efficient upgrade without sacrificing anything including your pickup radius which i am a little jealous of.
possibly IK chest if you dont mind losing the vit

Hey guys,
i just recently started with D3 again and sold everything i had left, which gave me about 8 millions of gold (when i stopped playing, this wouldve probably been 40 million, LOL). I decided to reequip my barb anyways and to reskill him to whirlwind/sprint.
This is the result: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/DiaBoLuS-2643/hero/19312
I need your help now: 1) Which item should i replace first / which is the "worst" item i got? 2) Is the DPS of the offhand rly that unimportant? Plz explain how it works! From my experience, only the sprint tornados seem to not care about my offhand base damage, while whirlwind does?!

You have CC only on gloves and one ring, and to make things worse you have a mighty weapon - so you lose even the 10%cc from Weapons Master.
Read my post from yesterday, the same principles apply to your budget. Defensive stats on certain items, offensive stats on others. This is necessary because you can't really rise your dps if you get stuck with vitality/life%/resist on rings, amulet, boots etc. Apart from that, maybe give a try to Blackthorne Surcoat (search for strenght and 170vit, 3mil on EU, or just 170+vit, 1mil) to get the set bonus. With a few mil you can get 2 pieces from the IK set, choose between helm belt and boots (your gloves are decent and the IK chest is expensive).

well, i followed a german guide, seems like it wasnt too good^^ when i think about it its pretty dumb to try to get all stats on each item, while its easier to get good offensive stats on Amulets while good defensive stats on things like chest. will go for blackthrone surcoat next, ty!
