I'm so glad I can finally play around with my build/skills and get something that's actually fun to play now. Before the patch I ran Hydra/Blizzard and even after the patch I still used this build, but it got kinda boring.
Now I just used: Electrocute - Lightning Blast Disintegrate - Chaos Nexus Archon - Improved Archon Familiar - Sparkflint Magic Weapon - Force Weapon Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor Glass Cannon Astral Presence (might switch this) Galvanizing Ward (might switch this as well)
It was quite fun and my farm speed increased a lot using that one. Now everything is just melting (video is a little choppy though) + Show Spoiler +
I'm still looking to replace my Bracers/Gloves/Belt, but don't really have much money in my bank right now. Also I kinda like my relatively high dexterity (about 24% dodge), that's why I feel kinda bad to part with some high dex items.
And even though Storm Crow probably isn't the best helmet around for Wizards, it's still quite fun. I love the occasional fireball, which can also crit for around 70k with my current gear. Also arcane power on crit is quite nice as well

Is this the end for CM wizards?
OK nevermind I read the full developer's blog and the claim that (near) permastun will still be possible however:
As previous mentioned, this means that near-infinite CC strategies will still work. We're okay with these strategies remaining viable, as we love how powerful it makes players feel. (That said, we will continue to keep an eye on these strategies and may make some changes in the future if we feel it will be better for the health of the game.)
So basically they're not ruling out further nerfs to CM builds just yet.

Well, it's not as if Wicked Wind and Storm Chaser actually differ very much in viability. The second of them is basically the first I think so wouldn't really call it a nerf at all.

a question for u hight dps archon mages, what are u doing against the damage reflect packs? i just melt myself with them a lot of the times and im running with just a tad bit less of 1000 loh. still got to test lowering my dps to 80k from 90k (removing glass cannon) and switching a ring i have with some ar to pump my all ress and armour but reducing the loh to around 800, but i feel im gona still melt myself.
sometimes i think it would be better to just go back to regular mode and just use diamond skin.
any lttle trick up the sleeve for these fukers?

Use lifesteal instead of LoH. At 100k dps, a meager 2.5% lifesteal will heal you for 1875 hp/target hit/sec whereas your 1k LoH only heals you for 500/target hit/sec - assuming you runed improved archon. If you have high enough defensive stats, a 2h lifesteal weapon would actually gain you hp against reflect damage mobs, but if your gear isn't overly defensive, you're looking at around 5k hp lost per target hit per second against reflect damage packs - something that LoH would barely make a dent in.
|
I thought there was a 80% life steal nerf on inferno, so LoH was basically always better.
Kripp. on Life Steal vs LoH

Kripp was not wrong at the time of that posting, when top players had maybe a fifth of their current dps, especially on barbarians who hit multiple times a second for full LoH procs and had only 20k dps. By comparison, wizards have much lower LoH coefficients (25% per tick per target on archon beam vs ~83%? of frenzy, both with roughly a 0.5 sec frequency).
At extremely high levels of damage - which you're going to be doing if you're in an archon spec - life steal easily wins out.
Math:
When you have 100k character screen dps, then factor in improved archon (+25% damage), and the archon beam itself (300% weapon damage), you end up with 375k dps.
2.5% lifesteal at a 80% penalty times 375k dps = 1875 hps.
LoH math is easy: 2 hits per second, each at 25% effectiveness = 50% LoH per second = ~500 hps in ximae's scenario. -----
The reflect damage property returns 20% of damage taken, which is further reduced by armor and resists. Assuming you have around 1k resists and 7000 armor in archon form, that means you're reflecting somewhere around 1.49% damage back towards yourself.
1.49% of 375k is 5.6k damage per second. It more or less laughs at 1000 LoH, scoffs at a 1h's lifeleech, and is somewhat balanced out by a 2h's lifeleech. I personally use a 1H at the moment and I have to aim my beam so that it only hits 1-2 members of a reflect pack at once, and I pause to collect health globes inbetween kills. Somewhat annoying, but so is swapping out enough gear to get APoC via helm and a lifeleech skorn, sigh.
|
What's the requirement for a weapon for 100k+ archon these days? Is 1h with leech the way to go, or are 2-handers with leech the way to go? Is archon without leech even worth the aggravation of running into reflect damage groups?
I saw a 930dps sword with socket, int, crit damage, and leech on the AH for 75m a day ago, I probably should've bought it...
|
Obviously it depends on the rest of your gear and spec (whether or not you take any/all of the four dps increasing skills).
ORCA can probably hit 100k with a level 30 rare, that bastard.
Personally, I didn't spend any more on my weapon than in other slots; you're going to have to get a dps calculator to determine your individual results, but with current pricing, I found weapons with just life leech and a socket to be worth the most dps for their cost. At around +300 crit damage, which is pretty commonplace, the numbers came out to be roughly 1 weapon dps = 0.5 crit dmg = 2.5 intellect.
And yeah, I'd say life leech is required. Blood magic rune doesn't work for magic weapon and archon - it'd probably be the rune of choice if it were.

Life Steal, Life on Hit, Life Regeneration, high All Resist & Armor all work. Also try to take down 1-2 at a time, not beam the whole pack. Stop shooting and move to health globes when one dies. I once had a %3 life steal weapon in my inventory just for reflect damage packs but now (with a bit of practice and gear) I can pretty much stabilize my condtion.
Particularly beware of the "horde" packs. You can die in a heartbeat if you shoot them all at once.

Just wanted to ask for some suggestions from US.
Profile: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/thekoalaz-1951/hero/846411
I am currently farming A3(starting at Heart of Sin-The Second Heart quest to do Cydaea+Azmodan runs) fine with Arcane Orb but compared to other people my stats just seem so low compared to people's 80k+ dps. My arcane orb crits for up to 180kish so I actually kill most trash mobs in one~two hits but I'm wondering if I'm itemizing wrong since that A3 run feels quite slow. Not having movement speed doesn't help I guess.
I'm pretty poor(currently only got 1.5mil in the bank) and was wondering if there were one or two slots I should work towards what they would be.
Thanks!

3 most obvious upgrades - Boots with movement speed even if you have to drop some resistances), your second ring basicly have 150 intelligence and... nothing else, should be able to find upgrade easily (at least on EU server, don't know prices on US) and your weapon is strange and lacks any kind of crit or at least socket (which should not be so expensive considering how badly they buffed 2h weapons recently). Also you have tons of armor stat, don't be afraid to drop some for more dps.

nice shield for arcane orb, taking offers

thx for the replys guys.
its not like i have big problems with them, its more that they slow me down and im seeing its generalised. we all have our little tricks to deal with them, but really if i die like 5 times in an act 3 run, 3 times is against thr reflect packs.. ur so low onhealth any stupid hit kills u.
I was really asking for advice on the gearing to solve the issue. i was thinking to outheal the damage taken, and loh works outstandingly well wiith the tornadoes but its obviously not enough for archon mode.
thx phael, so life steal is the way, what vualue u think would be necesary? counting i have like 800 loh anyways from one of my critchance rings and storm crow. and yeah u were very close on the defensive stats 8000k armour and a little bit more than 1000 res when in archon mode.
or i can just accept it how it is and just deal with it .

Thanks Narw.
Those are great suggestions I'll work towards those.
Thanks!

looking good these days in A3, I do die but it's mostly to phasebeasts/fire chains, rest is just facetank with lifesteal
I guess with my sick MH with phys roll I really should get a triumvirate right?
(yes some pieces are terrible, didn't have that much time 1st week after patch only plvl23 most of which was made in the last 4 days)

Looking for some upgrade advice guys, I can farm act 3 just fine but my damage just seems to be incredibly low compared to everyone else. Would like to get it up there before the cc nerfs come into play so I can still farm. I have ~9mil to spend currently.

Even if you use a non elemental one that has the same DPS as your current weapon you should see an overall DPS increase. Apart from that you can always get a weapon with higher DPS anyways.
Try to add some attack speed % to your rings as well.
Probably the first things I'd try to look into, which are relatively affordable compared to the other slot improvements.

I'm confused about your goal. The "cc nerfs" are just that: nerfs to inferno mob CC resistance. Shouldn't this make farming easier? Sure, if the nerf Storm Chaser or Frost Nova (I am just using these as examples. We have no indication from Blizz that they plan to), that will require some adjustment.
tl;dr Based on what we know from the horse's mouth, farming will only be easier after the nerf to mob resistance to CC.

I suppose I should have clarified. I was running the wicked wind build up until I upgraded a bunch of gear earlier today. I missed the update about the permastun/frozen still being a possibility, but atill would rather play a less gimmicky build. Pretty much looking to improve my dps so I can run an archon or other viable straight up dps builds.
I have to thank pandacore for the aspeed idea. After a different weapon and the rings I'm up to a respectable 79k dps. Now to find some pieces with a little more health as that is ridiculously low now........
