No, its true. You can go for hp and all resist like a few pages back so you can farm very specific things like certain mobs or butcher on inferno. However, for me the money and time spent getting those items is simply not worth the trade. I think we can all agree that all high level DH's you see depend first and foremost on a 1k dmg weapon. If this weapon gives vit or other nice bonuses ok that's extra, but almost all the DH I have seen who rape are 1k dmg+. This allows them to either evade things very quickly and cleverly with smoke screen + vault, or slow things with caltrops/entangling, or finally just burst dps the shit outta enemies with multishot/cluster arrow loaded for bear. Nether tentacles is pretty much the MVP skill for DH.
I have seen very few demon hunters deviate from those 3 paths. The class just depends on doing ridiculous amounts of damage. If you aren't at act 2 inferno, you might think its possible to tank 1-3 hits and play your DH that way but you'll find out it just doesn't make sense.
I'm at act 4, and all the vit+all resist gear I had is just useless. It's better to fill sockets with all emeralds and crit/dps shit down fast. I mean you have to play a gimped version of what you were doing before the SS nerf, but its still the most effective playstyle.

anyone having luck with a tanky DH? (1hand + shield, lots of +all resist) or is glass cannon with SS spam still the best way to go? Of course I mean in Inferno Act2 and beyond. I wanna see if it's worth it before I drop ~10mil in gear.

Also curious about this. Would something like Shadow Power / Gloom + Sentry / Guardian Turret + Resists/Armor work?

Anyone got tips on how to beat izual in inferno? I can't seem to bug him out with smokescreen cause he doesn't actually lose track of me when I use it

Why do you need him to lose track of you? if you kite him around just one of the circles, he will never charge. That only happends if you run between circles. I just kite him around the top left one and line him up with his adds for nether tentacle spam through them all.
Only real threat on him is the adds charging you, which can be avoided with damage and smokescreen, and not timing the chill wave correctly, which is solved by sound.

can someone explain the difference between 1h and 2h bows since it seems like 2h gets to use their off hand stats anyways? is it just the speed?

He uses the ice the instant he says the line that's kind of too late =/ maybe it's lag ..

1h Crossbow - 1.6 atk speed 2h Crossbow - 1.1 atk speed 2h Bow - 1.4 atk speed
As for overall dps, it goes 2h Crossbow = 2h Bow > 1h Crossbow
With 2h Crossbow and 2h Bow, you can put a quiver on your offhand. With 1h Crossbow, you can put shield or another 1h crossbow. When dual wielding, your offhand crossbow gets 15% atk speed bonus and you alternate fire between the two. One problem about 2h crossbow is that the slow attack speed will make stutterstep a bit difficult because of the long attack animation. I am currently using a 2h Crossbow, but I have 4 items that give 15% attack speed each, which will bring it up to an acceptable level. Ideally, I think 5-6 +15% increases would be better.
You also should consider that the Archery skill gives different benefits to each type.

One of the benefits of the Dual 1H crossbows is the fact that you have "2" potential weapon sockets to put some more Emeralds for some amazing crit builds.

Has anyone worked out at what stage going +crit bonus dmg beats out on a ruby in a bow or whatever? about what dps?
also, any tips or tricks to power leveling? I had farmed a2 boss solo for about 18 levels from lvl 15..i do 1500 dps now at lvl 34 with a bow upgrade, but i don't think i'll be able to farm a2 chamber@NM until like..lvl 38ish :[
any tips / tricks / ideas?

Monks and Barbarians are 30% tankier for just playing that class and they still shatter like glass until they heavily outgear the Inferno Act.
Plus they all have abilities and passives that assist in tanking. You could try and keep up Shadow Power: Gloom with the old infinite Smokescreen build but that's pretty much it.

So was anyone watching the Athene stream tonight? 112k estimated dps without sharpshooter, 210k with.
Basically he got his viewers/fans to donate gold and bought the best gear available on AH.
The dmg numbers he put out were ridiculous enough to pretty much ensure a nerf of stat synergy for one of our multipliers. My guess is they'll fix nether tentacles first then maybe lower the coefficient on haste.
I really hope they nerf the shit out of our damage, that way they'll have to make us a viable class past the current 1shot cheesy glass cannon we are now. They should buff brooding - passive 15% damage decrease, heals for 10% of all crit dmg, something like that. What does it matter that we produce a gazillion health globes if you get killed in three hits from an act 3 fallen while in full monk gear...

dude fuck athene, he gets everything nerfed.
they should nerf us because he has a lot of pretty much the best gear in the game, and is overgeared for encounters? does that even make sense?

Cool Tip:
If you have 38 discipline you can cast 3 smoke screens (with lingering) in a row, given the cooldown and standard discipline regen rate. makes a big difference.
