Updated on OP also.
I'm going to send new mapfile to NA, EU uploader.
it also appears they edited the main ramp on crossfire to be normal sized, is this true ?

well crossfire will make for some weird but fun games where pushing the enemy may also leave more weaknesses and the other maps look awesome seriously everyone all ins in blizzard maps in 1 or 2 base is so stupid but i dont really like the lack of xelnaga watch towers

Legacy of the Void must have the hardest to hold 3rd bases yet maybe after Blistering Sands :S

Just played on taldair altar, and that was the by far most fun both me and my training partner have had in a long time. Huge battles, and while the huge battles you had to manage 6+ bases and attacks on them while you attack and keeping inject and upgrades and everything.
Finally, at least that map made me feel like 170-200 apm was so far from enough to be able to keep up with everything you wanna do. It was amazing. Hope at least that map gets in, since it was the absolute best/most fun I've had in a long time in sc-2. Awesome, just awesome.
This map forces you to defend mulitple locations attack and macro at the same time. Just awesome, just freaking awesome.
(sry if I am being uncontructive here, but that map was just the best thing to hit ladder ever. period)

From zerg perspective after trying few maps I think crossfire is just plain horrible, I can't imagine zerg winning that map vs. collosus/storm or tanks. Then Aiur Garden is also bad, cause you pretty much can't hatch first because when you get canon rushed you can't put expansion in other exp. because all of them are with rocks. I don't know what's the reasoning behind making all expansions with rocks..

Really excited for the future of Starcraft 2 with new maps.
I feel like nydus worms are going to be more important on the bigger maps for reinforcing an attack or setting up a contain. Especially so if going for hydralisks, as creep tumours are going to take a long time to spread to your opponent's base. This will make reinforcing with hydras especially weak.
But with a nydus worm it also puts creep down, and you can pop a queen through to get a few tumours out there too. So I can imagine the main and natural hatcheries rallied into to the nydus network and creep spreading out from a forward worm up to the opponent's base. And if he breaks your contain you can just retreat your hydras back into the nydus and unload them all at your main. This will ensure that slow hydras don't get picked off as they retreat off creep, and you will have ample time to set up defensive positioning before he can counter attack due to the large distances.

Some thoughts on the maps after playing around in them a bit.
Aiur Garden, all paths converge into the center. That's no too bad considering LT/Metal/Shakuras all have convergence points where you can park your army and resonably defend all your expansions. Just HERE you can deny your opponent at the same time defending your own. Potential trouble there. We'll see.
Tal'Darim altar. I like the layout, but it seems too big? Can't say much else.
Biohazard. This map sucks.
Crossfire. Ramps and hallways is all this map is. It's forcefield heaven. Can't complain. I play Protoss. I do like the overall layout. Maybe some wiggle room can be added. Such as the center, remove those crevasses and open it up.
|
Ok, after some games PvT I have to say, boooh Biohazard, the expansions in the middle are literally impossible to defend against any competent dropship-user. Crevasse looks awsome, will try it tonight. I don't like legacy of the void, it seem like it's impossible to take a third, entrances everywhere.

Is there any good place to watch games on these maps? I know they're on gomtv.com but the gomplayer is giving me a lot of trouble when I try to watch those videos with my horrible campus internet.

tal'darim altar, crossfire, Terminus Re and Legacy of the Void all look pretty interesting, and id like to see them played
not too excited bout the other ones though
