I can't simply because both those teams rely to much on there goalies while top players are kinda invisible. Out west all three of these teams top players are controlling the outcome of games I can't. I like that Montreal beat Boston. Montreal stands no chance against any of the western playoff teams.

Defense outside of Subban and Markov ain't great. Price can steal games. I guess I could cheer for them? ehhhhhhhhhh The Westerns big clubs (LA/ANA) are much more disciplined than the Bruins. You dont see Kopitar or Getzlaf take stupid holding penalties. As far as Chicago goes, I dont think Montreal stands up to CHI in any facet of the game. The Hawks are bigger, stronger, faster, have more experience, a better defence, a better offence, more potential game breaking players... All Montreal has is the goaltending match-up there. They could prove me wrong, but I just dont see them beating the west.

I hope we get some higher scoring games in the final 2 rounds of the playoffs. Latvia beat USA 6-5 at the World Championships, i just watched it, and it was wild. RAY SHERO IS GONE... I FUCKING CALLED IT. and Dan Bylsma is still the coach. press conference is on now on Sportsnet.ca http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/ray-shero-fired-by-penguins-1.2645126 Ray Shero's dad.. is my favourite coach of all time. "if we lose it'll be worse than dying", what a quote!

Odd that the Penguins canned Shero, but left Bylsma and stated he may or may not stay depending on what the new gm says. What coach is gonna wanna come there if you let him flap in the wind like that?

What coach is gonna wanna come there if you let him flap in the wind like that? Bylsma is free to quit any time he wants. as far as Penguins management goes. there is a question in their minds as to whether there are any top notch coaches available for hire. it was also, a factor in why Carlyle was extended. so this dearth of top notch coaches looking for work is a factor in why BOTH Carlyle and Bylsma have jobs. but , that is not what an uninformed internet mob wants to hear. they just want blood. i wonder how many employees answer to the people in this thread who want to insta-fire everyone. My guess is its a nice even very round number. it makes for a great stat. you see when u fire someone you must be reasonably sure you have a better replacement. its easy for any armchair Prez or GM to fire any one any time. its another matter if you fire someone and then replace him with someone worse. next thing you know... its your job on the line.

This chart is fucking hilarious: ![]() After a neutral-zone win, the Leafs dump the puck in (often just handing over possession) 65% of the time when Gardiner isn't on the ice. No wonder they can't generate any offense. That's a ridiculous strategy. Either way, the Leafs are more successful with Gardiner on the ice but that doesn't matter because Carlyle-dump-and-chase-rinse-repeat-lose-at-hockey is more important. The Leafs push the play at 66% after a neutral-zone win with Gardiner on the ice and get pushed back at 40% after a neutral-zone win when he's not. Clearly his penchant for carrying the puck and thwarting the Carlyle system is ruining the Leafs. ![]() All fancycharts stolen from http://www.mc79hockey.com/?p=7049 If there is a problem with Gardiner and the Leafs, then he'll be one of those undervalued players that shakes loose and typically falls to a good team. He'll be a great Shark. edit: For fun, guess where Gardiner is: ![]() Man did Phaneuf/Gunnarsson ever get thrown to the wolves =P

Both of those guys are gonna be really good-to-great players when they're actually in a system that allows them to utilize their best assets instead of forcing them to play like fourth liners. Those charts are hilarious. It's also funny seeing that how much that stupid system drags them down vs the league average. e: it is funny hearing fans/media complain about Phaneuf not putting up points like he used to, and then seeing that chart. Of fucking course he isn't going to when he is playing on a team that does not play good possession hockey to begin with, and gives him the hardest minutes by far on the team. He could very easily be a 40-50point dman if they played to his strengths and didn't try treating him like a shutdown dman. He and Gunnarson have the worst zone start % in the league, and they're not far off for facing the hardest competition either. If anything, him still breaking 30 points in that shit situation is admirable. On that note, Mark Giordano is a giant blue circle while having a rough zone start himself, and the highest qualcomp. Damn son. Speaking of anti-possession systems, I wonder if the Habs continue to play positive possession hockey and keep Murray stapled to the bench, or if they go back to their regular season dump and chase shit vs the Rangers. The Rangers blueline is a lot more mobile than the B's, esp with Chara being older and injured (he apparently had an open finger fracture during the series, and a bum knee). They look so much better when their little turd forwards utilize their speed and skill to carry the line instead of having to chase down pucks. Either way, I think there's gonna be a lot of 2-1 games in this series due to the goalies. Hank and Price are both on fire lately, and they both generally get a lot of support from their team defense.

"good to great" is ill-defined. but, if you think Kadri is going to be a "great" player you are incorrect. the only thing standing in the way of his greatness is a bad coach ![]() i'll provide a much more precise assessement and forecast of Kadri's play now and in the future. if u look at all the #7 picks in the history of the NHL Kadri will be in the median area of that pack of guys. Kadri is an Oscar winning actor though, for the endorsement he gave of Carlyle. There will be no improvement in Kadri's play. What you see is what you get.

Every time I watch the shitty Oilers play Calgary it's like "oh yeah, that's what an NHL defenseman looks like." They have him for a few more years on a wonderful $4M contract too. They should consider trading him to Toronto for the last few months of that contract so that Carlyle can lower his value enough to have Calgary re-sign him at decent money in the off-season. On May 17 2014 04:39 BigAsia wrote: I don't know they can make an argument to keep him. The argument is that the coach is fine but the roster is the problem - that's the GM's job, naturally. May as well keep him around and let the new GM make that call - a win-win for ownership (in the way of future blame shifting). edit: Speaking of Toronto/Edmonton, a Kadri/Gardiner for Gagner/Ference/good D prospect trade would be awesome. Ference is the type of marginal NHLer who talks about things like 'toughness' and 'grit' and other things he doesn't do well that would have him universally loved by Carlyle and the Leafs. Plus Kadri had the best corsirel on the Leafs this year so that pretty much means he's on the way out.

IMO, the probability of Bylsma actually being behind the bench next year is approximately 0. but, hey what do i know?

The media thought is that the Pens and other teams are hoping Babcock wants out in Detroit, but that's kind of silly. He works well with management there, even if they didn't do so hot this season, and it is already a big market. I don't see why Babcock would want to go to Pitt or anywhere else over there. I do not want it to happen to anyone in the east, but Trotz should have been hired A-fucking-SAP. Capuano should have been shitcanned as soon as Trotz became available, but Wang likes his yes-man. Giordano has really evolved into a stud. I wonder if Calgary can get competitive soon enough to make use of him while he is in his peak. Also yes, Ference for Kadri seems like the kind of trade the Leafs would make. They could pair him with the his tough stay at home clone, Tim Gleason, who also got exposed as a dogshit plugger last year as well.
