In general a trade like this is made to give yourself a head start signing a guy. 4th rounders don't pan out in the league usually so potentially losing it for nothing isn't that big of a deal.

Worth the risk IMO
especially when you consider how deep the islanders are at the position.
Sucks for Halak though. its like his 4th team in 4 months... But if he wants though he can probably get a 5 year deal worth an absurd amount of money because he is dealing with Garth Snow and the Isles have no hope/no future in net. ( how great was that Vanek trade after all )
