I'd like to get people's opinions on what is probably the GOP establishment's almost but not quite nightmare scenario.
An establishment candidate (likely whoever polls highest in New Hampshire, which is probably Rubio but very unknown) consolidates "business as usual" Republican support as the rest of that type drop out. When Fiorina and Carson inevitably drop out after cashing their checks, Trump and Cruz split their support equally.
Going into the convention, we miraculously ended up with something like 33-33-33 between Trump/Cruz/GOP favorite. Not inconceivable given how Cruz+Trump only have something like 42% of the vote in New Hampshire-pretty much the share of the vote everyone else has in Iowa.
What happens? I think Cruz would rather die than side with Trump in any real way, and he would also be extremely happy to have the party deep in his debt for doing what they want. Would Trump throw in with Cruz?
Nightmare scenario would be Trump having >50% of the vote I guess but I don't think that's at all possible given how poorly he has converted national support and the amount of coverage he has gotten.
(also Teamliquid has started giving me Cruz ads since I'm in North Carolina, including the chance to enter a lottery to win a Cruz-autographed gun LMAO)

To be fair the environmental and public health damage that has been caused by VW's emission cheating is probably much bigger. Vehicle pollution kills 50k people prematurely annually in the US alone.

And I don't really see what the difference between a faulty product and that kind of damage is if the VW management guys knowingly circumvented environmental standards.

Some good news:
West Indian manatees and some colonies of green sea turtles have been in danger of extinction for decades.
But scientists have some good news about the much-loved sea creatures, which both have their largest U.S. populations in Florida.
The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service says the West Indian manatee should be reclassified from "endangered" to the improved status of "threatened."
The agency says threats to manatees are being addressed — and they are responding with major population growth. Conservation officials say they counted only 1,267 manatees in Florida when aerial surveys began in 1991. Now, the state hosts more than 6,300 manatees. The FWS puts the total worldwide population at 13,000.
"The manatee is one of the most charismatic and instantly recognizable species," said Michael Bean, principal deputy assistant secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks at the Department of the Interior in a statement. "It's hard to imagine the waters of Florida without them, but that was the reality we were facing before manatees were listed under the Endangered Species Act. While there is still more work to be done to fully recover manatee populations, their numbers are climbing and the threats to the species' survival are being reduced."
Now there's a 90-day comment period on the proposed change. Then FWS will review any new information and make its final decision about the manatee's status.
Federal protections and conservation efforts would not be cut off, the agency says.
Even so, the move has critics, NPR member station WLRN reports. "U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota, sent a letter Thursday to the Fish and Wildlife Service asking it to withdraw the proposed status change, calling the move 'misguided and premature' and saying manatees face threats such as collisions with boats, habitat loss and red tide."
Meanwhile, 2015 has been a good year for another species in Florida — green sea turtles — as NPR reported on Morning Edition.
At The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Florida, scientists counted 14,152 nests last year. In 2001, there were 198.

Trump coming into a brokered convention with ~40% of the vote, Cruz ~30%, Rubio ~20%, Others 10%. Trump offers Cruz:
a) VP slot/promise support for 2024 run. b) support for a Senate Majority run c) Supreme Court Justice nomination.
Cruz considers, moves toward the establishment, and then signs onto Trump, taking VP option. Trump/Cruz end convention with dueling anti-PC rants in their own distinct (arguably unfavorable) styles.

well, maybe - maybe not. there are so many industries that contribute to polluting the environment. and VW are not the only ones on the streets, they are actually a very small part of the cars being driven in the US. and in a court of law, your link and the info which generally make sense, can establish a correlation maybe, but no clear causation. what works however is when there is clear and tangible fraud and deceit, laws are broken.
or people getting killed because it is already established... by a GM commission nonetheless. they got off easy with 900million because the feds won't prosecute harder. why? the feds bailed out GM. and would basically have to pay the fine to themselves or whatever lol.
and GM is an american company. VW isn't.

Dude, Ive been getting emails from his ad campaign for weeks now. I have no idea how. Ive never lived anywhere except the Northeast and Seattle and I live in Canada now.
I shut them down but they keep coming to my spam... heres a sample..
+ Show Spoiler +Dear Friend,
With just hours before the end of 2015, I told my campaign staff to get this email to you immediately.
I need to ask you for a very critical, personal favor -- it could come at great personal expense.
And I MUST hear back from you within the next 24 hours.
I hope you know me well enough by now to know that I wouldn’t ask if it weren’t vitally important and that I wouldn't ask you this favor if I wasn't willing to make the same deep sacrifices myself.
Please let me briefly explain because I’m running out of time.
Running for President of the United States has been a HUGE sacrifice.
Only by the grace of God Almighty, the prayers of my friends and family (my dad is a prayer warrior!), and the continued, unending support of people just like you have I been able to forge ahead -- and force the elite media to take notice.
Friend, it's a war I fight daily and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. But, if I'm being honest, I must share something with you...
The sacrifices for our campaign are steep, but I'm proud and even honored to be making them on your behalf (and on behalf of my family too):
• There are constant incoming attacks against me and my family: as you probably saw just days ago when the liberal media attacked my daughters. It’s clear the liberal media, Hillary Clinton, her allies, and even some Republicans have decided the best way to campaign is to tear me down. I face a constant barrage of political and personal attacks daily.
• I am giving you my best and fighting as hard as I can every day: my runoff campaign for the Senate in 2012 took a toll, but now I'm digging deeper and sacrificing even more sleep with long nights and constant travel.
• Family time is not possible: some think of this the least, but as a candidate, my days are no longer my own. Days start before dawn and many times don't end until early the next morning. And what makes it worse is when my family is attacked -- I’m sometimes not home to kiss my wife and children and assure them everything is going to be OK.
Friend, let me be clear. I'm not complaining -- I'm willingly choosing to make these sacrifices. AND it will all be worth it when you and I turn this country around.
But now, I'm going to ask you to make your own personal sacrifice for this campaign -- click here to make a special one-time, sacrifice donation of $35, $50, or even $500 if you can manage it.
You see: I wouldn't ask if I wasn't confident. I believe we live in a time that, if good people who love freedom and liberty don't stand up and make selfless sacrifices, we will lose the very freedom and liberty we all cherish as Americans.
That's why today -- with only hours left before the end of 2015 -- I'm again asking you to make a sacrifice with me.
I’m doing all that I possibly can to win this election, and for the next 24 hours, I’m laser focused on meeting my year-end financial goals.
Will you join me by making a special, sacrificial gift -- within the next 24 hours -- to help me end 2015 on target? There are seriously only hours remaining, and I need to hear back from you ASAP!
To make it as quick and easy as possible, I've asked my staff to put together the secure links below so you can make an instant, secure sacrificial gift -- it can be done in five minutes or less, BUT I'm counting on you to do it before the end of the year:
I CAN SACRIFICE $35 BEFORE THE END OF 2015 >>>
I CAN SACRIFICE $100 BEFORE THE END OF 2015 >>>
I CAN SACRIFICE $250 BEFORE THE END OF 2015 >>>
I CAN SACRIFICE $1000 BEFORE THE END OF 2015 >>>
I wouldn't ask you if 1) I wasn't willing to make the same sacrifice myself; and 2) the stakes weren't so high.
Friend, I’m asking you again. Will you help me turn our country around?
Time is critical, and I hope to hear back from you in the next 24 hours -- Heidi and I would be so grateful.
For liberty,
Ted Cruz
P.S. Friend, I've chosen to make the sacrifices in our fight to restore America. Will you join me with your gift of $250 or $100? OR if $35 or $10 is a stretch gift for you, Heidi and I will be deeply grateful for each and every dollar you can sacrifice. We promise to ensure it is faithfully used. Please, I'm counting on hearing back from you in the next 24 hours. "
And another one..
+ Show Spoiler +Cruz For President Friend,
Ted needs your help.
Ted is under an all-out assault on his campaign, his values, and even him personally. Attacks are coming from all sides -- Republican and Democrat -- and of course the liberal media.
Ted won't tell you this but I will -- please stop what you are doing and read below.
Here is the situation, and it worries me:
1) We just received inside information that Iowa Super PACs -- funded by Republicans -- are planning to spend millions attacking Ted's policy and character.
2) Hillary is personally attacking Ted's strong stand for American families. She openly speaks of her distain for Ted's values and is attacking him in front of millions online.
3) The media is getting personal. The Washington Post published a despicable attack on my children. Both Ted and I are determined to protect our children from their shameless attacks.
4) We now have only 18 hours left before the media starts their full scale "exploration" into our campaign finances. Thumbing through thousands of financial papers to find any weakness and mislead Americans.
Friend, I don’t know any other man who is prepared to fight these political assaults, stand up to the personal attacks, and still provide a positive vision for America.
I admit I'm biased, but Ted is the man we need to restore America.
One more thing: every dollar, every prayer and word of encouragement means the world to Ted and me.
Today is the final day of 2015, and Ted could sure use your support right now more than ever.
You see, he's confided in me that he must raise another $349,394 dollars before midnight tonight -- less than 18 hours from now.
That is a big shortfall.
I know there is no way you -- or any one person -- can cover that entire balance, but if you could just make one last 2015 Stop-Gap donation, both Ted and I would be in your debt.
If we close the books and Ted is still short, it could mean the difference between winning and losing this campaign.
I know it's a lot to ask, but can Ted and I count on you one last time in 2015?
Warmly, Heidi Cruz
and then this gem this morning. I am not signed up to any alerts, and I do visit right wing propaganda websites, (Breitbart et al) here or there for perspective. But I've never coughed up my email.

Warmly, Heidi Cruz and then this gem this morning. I am not signed up to any alerts, and I do visit right wing propaganda websites, (Breitbart et al) here or there for perspective. But I've never coughed up my email. + Show Spoiler +But wait theres more... + Show Spoiler +

What meme changed your vote Moh?

And as a note, I don't think I'm being reasonable. I just see the type of people who comment on shit like this on Facebook and I realize the left has some uneducated idiots of their own. I cringe and feel like I don't want to be a part of the stuff they say. But then I realize that this kinda catering to the lowest denominator is what works for elections and it doesn't mean that Bernie will actually be a meme president. It's just that memes get votes.
That being said, at least we don't get the rural vote. I have often asked myself how someone can realize their views align with rural america and still not question whether they've been wrong all along. There is no group less educated and less qualified to make decisions than rural america. It is interesting to me that the fact that they produce food is able to elevate them to some kinda untouchable status. Sure, they make food. But someone else would make food if they didn't. This is not rocket science.
Edit: I agree that our justice system is complete shit. It is more so that this meme with Bernie being all angry and shit was the straw that broke the camels back. My ideal political system would disallow anything other than text being conveyed to voters. It would be an election based purely on ideas without the ability to even *see* who is running.

edit: I figured alphabetizing the last names was the fairest way to get the order.
I dunno if any of them would be the worst president ever. Kind of the same brand of silliness as calling Clinton the worst SoS ever.
We've had a couple cult-of-personality borderline incompetent presidents and we've also had a couple crazy power hungry ones. There are some pretty spectacularly bad historical precedents for presidents. It's hard to outclass Franklin Pierce/Harding/etc for shittiness.

Facebook changed a lot since the 2011 Canadian federal election- the 2015 election I filtered a TON of people out of my facebook feed as people from all sides of the political spectrum were spamming and arguing all sorts of simplistic memes and partisan pictures. I'm highly interested in politics, but I hate partisan nature of the discussion the memes inspired and just blocked anyone that spammed it.

Yea i rarely share memes. I am more concerned with sharing pro Bernie polls/news articles that show his actual electability rather than angry memes.

I quite enjoy those memes tbh. Like the "only two people in history have ever had a symbol associated with them, Hitler and ..... OBAMA" one. I'm always up for some of those.
