It costs more in most cases, any form of killing is an atrocity that should be avoided at all costs, and on top of all that, it's irreversible. Give me one good reason for capital punishment, I'd love to hear it. There is nothing better about it as opposed to the alternative; even if you're alright with it morally, it isn't even better financially. I don't understand it personally, I feel like it's a way of the past that needs to be abolished. If you kill somebody, there is no return, and let's be honest, America's legal system (while I support it) is not 100% accurate. If you can't guarantee accuracy then there shouldn't be a punishment as definitive and unforgiving as capital punishment. I just looked this up after typing in "Wrongful Death Penalty" into Google: http://www.nytimes.com/1997/07/14/opinion/wrongful-death-penalty.html If 1 out of every 100 people sentenced to death are found innocent BEFORE their execution, I bet there are cases where people are executed despite being innocent. If people who are innocent are being killed, then you have a serious problem. I'm all for punishing these people, but the death penalty (in my opinion) is wrong, and I personally have never heard a good argument for it. I'd be delighted to hear one. i dont think this thread is about pro/con death penalty, so do consider taking the political/moral debate somewhere else. pretty horrifying case of stupidity at the least.. If they didn't blatantly plan to kill the child this would be a extreme case of uneducated people thinking that keeping the kid from drinking stops the bedweting and acts as a punishment

No they shouldn't be hung, or suffer the same treatment, they should just rot in jail for a while, it's over for them anyway, their second kid won't ever forgive them, they've just lost all their friends and their entire lives, oh, and not to mention their TEN YEAR OLD SON. I think they'll suffer enough.

That is either malicious intent, or an award-winning level of stupid.

I'm generally against capital punishment and torture for a multitude of reasons but there are some people who deserve it. This is a case where I would love to see an eye for an eye punishment.

At least this happened in Texas; we know the difference between right and wrong and aren't afraid to use the justice system to enforce it here. My only regret is that they will still live long lives with 99 years in prison, and all on my tax dollar's dime.

I agree, put these people in a glass box and put them on live t.v. so we can watch them eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches without water until they die.

When I was about 6, my dad brought me to a client's house where he sat outside and chatted while I stayed inside to play Sega with her much older son and his friend. They were really nice to me right up until I went into their master bedroom to use the toilet in the bathroom there, and they decided it would be funny to lock me in there with them. I tried to escape a few times but they pushed me back and contented themselves with terrifying me and intimidating me until I finally hit one and flew downstairs yelling (my father never took any of it seriously). I can only imagine how it would feel to be imprisoned like that by your actual father who is much older than a couple young boys. It's incredibly scary and when you're that young it's really hard for the fact to register that your father really doesn't care about you. He was probably too confused and scared to even think about crossing his already horrific family when they have already been this abusive, and I'm sure he didn't think they were going to kill him. This is incredibly tragic ![]() Btw the death penalty costs more than life imprisonment. Just an FYI seeing as you obviously care about the allocation of those tax dollars. The only way around that would be to strip people of a fair appellate process, which I'm sure we can all agree is a bad idea.

It just seems so counterintuitive. The death penalty might cost what...$1k? Food, electricity, guards, etc have to cost more than that over a person's lifetime.

It's the court costs that makes it so expensive, if they killed an innocent person there would be an incredible amount of backlash.

No, you see thats completely wrong. Maybe thats how their parents brought them up, and they survived ? Maybe its something that happened a lot back in the days ? In england until 40 years ago you could get caned to blood in school for insulting the head master of your school, I have pictures of my uncle with his trousers stuck to his butt because of the blood, because he spat on his teachers desk (don't ask me why he did it, he was 12). That was common punishement back then, and depriving the child from water could very well be a common one in their family, this one just went terribly wrong because they're stupid. But you're in absolutely no position to judge or assume such arrogant things, trust me they are in the depths of psychological hell because of what they did, do they deserve it ? fuck yes, but saying they don't care or deserve to die is just wrong, really. Edit: btw, this story really sickens me, and i condemn the act completely, but i'm just saying you need to stay human in these situations. RIP to the little dude, really.
