Infuriating indeed.

How is that only "injury to a child"? This is murder by any means. Dehydrating someone for so long has the same expected result as shooting a bullet in his head. Serious injury guaranteed and 99% death. And malice can't be denied either.

I hope they change the charge to "murder". I am also glad that this happened in texas because anything but the chair would be too good for them.

As has been repeated numerous times in the thread, "causing serious bodily injury to a child" is the equivalent of murder to Texas State court. This isn't "only injury to a child," this is a first degree felony which will likely result in a life sentence.

Sorry to say this, but I blame the education.

Same. Time to start fixing some things in the society.

I just don't understand how anyone would not understand that people need water to live. I know I've been privileged to have a good school system, but are there really schools somewhere in the US that don't have a single health class or 3rd grade class where they mention that water is needed? I just checked and health is a required class in Texas. Maybe it has more to do with the individuals and upbringing than the school system in this case...

There has to be something wrong the parents, or at least they're complete and utter idiots. This story makes me incredibly angry; I hope they are punished as harshly as possible.

Idiocy implies that they didn't know that withholding water was harmful. If they didn't know it was harmful, they wouldn't have done it as a punishment. This was as willful and deliberate as a parent beating a child to death; the only difference is timescale and the callousness of the act.

At least the parent who beat the child to death can say that it happened quickly or in the heat of the moment. That doesn't mean that such a person isn't fucking evil, but just compare it to these people.

They had to live, in the same house, with a child who they were willingly denying water. For five days. How cold do you have to be to even be able to do that? That isn't a "heat of the moment thing". That's every hour. Every minute. For five days.

Did the child beg for water? Did they have to hear his appeals to just have something to drink, please? There would have had to be something. Which means that they would have heard his appeals and been unmoved by them.

These people weren't idiots. They were sick fucks. Don't insult actual idiots by comparing them to these assholes.
So you know, cats are interesting. They are kind of like girls. If they come up and talk to you, it's great. But if you try to talk to them, it doesn't always go so well. - Shigeru Miyamoto

In a way, as a Texan, I'm almost glad that if it happened, it happens here. Don't get me wrong, as a parent myself, I find this disgusting and want only the worst for these pieces of shit. It just so happens that our legal system here frequently gets attacked for being too strong, too harsh, too rough on criminals. I don't think many people will consider that to be anything but the perfect place for these people to be tried.

does the death penalty still exist in texas?

Fuck yeah it does. I don't mean to take it lightly. I was born and raised in Texas and still live there today and I absolutely agree with the death penalty. Some people can't change, some people are absolute monsters. It doesn't matter to me if they have a mental deformity that causes them to act the way they do or if they're just genuinely evil. Some people need to be removed from this planet. They're not going to change, they are fucked up in the head.

I understand that anyone could be subject to a mental deformity that causes them to behave in ways that go against our most deepest beliefs as a society. That's life. It sucks, it may seem unfair, but that's how it is. People need to be removed.

If I was a sadistic monster I would want to be removed from this planet as well.

If anyone has a problem with that feel free to take it up with god, mother earth or whoever the fuck you feel is responsible, but it isn't me. I didn't create the monsters, but I will see to their destruction.

Do you know anything about the death penalty?

Who are you to say that killing is wrong if you then go and kill someone? That is something known as hypocrisy. You sound like a vigilante (which is not a compliment) who has serious problems.

Plus, morals aside (which I believe is the important reason why the death penalty is so wrong, but if you disagree then this might make you think otherwise), here's some interesting facts: http://deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty
Did you know that the death penalty actually costs more then imprisoning a person for life? I remember when I heard that I was pretty amazed.

Also, you made a distinction, so I'm just wondering what other people think, are there people who are just "evil" but don't have something messed up in their head?

EDIT:

Read what you just wrote. Life is too good for them? Who are you to make that distinction. They deserved to be locked away forever without even a chance at seeing sunlight, but who made you god. Who gave you the power to decide who lives and dies. That is pure hypocrisy.

Have you guys read about what dieing from dehydration is like?

Your eyeballs get so dry, you cant blink. You have to keep them closed and wait to die. Your throat cracks and it becomes painful to breathe. I read about it once.

They should do that to the parents.

Arguing with god huh? Not that I am a big believer but god clearly allows the death penalty. Look at this bible thing he wrote, it clearly allows death penalty.

That's fucked up. Reminds me of the case where a woman forced a little girl (forgot their exact relationship) to eat a pudding 'spiced up' with so much salt that it killed her.

But am I surprised? No. Unfortunately not. There's fucked up people everywhere in the world. The ones hitting the news are only the tip of the iceberg. Plenty never even make police records, even though they definitely should.

This is why I couldn't be in law enforcement. 1. I've dealt with tragedy enough and I don't want to deal with this kind of stuff 2. My gun would "go off" sometimes when dealing with these "people"

Ugh, it makes me feel gross just calling them that.
