on a side note since im not from the US: how big was this conspiracy theorie in the united states just some gag or did it fill the media for weeks ?
This issue was as big as the media tried to make it. It's like if someone got a slap on the wrist for illegally sending their child to the wrong school and then the media reported that "homeless mother may get 20 years in prison for wrong address."

As someone watching american politics from the side line I am just confused with this whole thing.
How could this even get this far?
Why is it a big deal that the president have to be born in the USA in the first place?
Don't the politics got other things to worry about?

Good move by Obama! Birthers are reasonable people and they will certainly accept this birth certificate and finally get behind the president!

It's a Constitutional requirement for the President of the United States to be a born citizen.

It's not a constitutional requirement to release it and still have to release it because people are idiotic and fall victim to crazy conspiracy theories.

As if this will make a difference.
This discussion has nothing to do with facts or evidence

It makes you feel all warm inside knowing your world leaders work on such serious and immediate issues. Of course the most essential attribute of a president is knowing where he is born. Had he been born somewhere else all trust would be gone...Horrible thought, I say. Well I'm glad we can put this to rest & the next burning issue can get some attention.

I'm not confused. This is American media meddling with American politics as usual.
See the above answer.
We're a country of xenophobic immigrants. No irony here.
No. We tend to worry more about sex scandals and birth certificates than we do about foreign policy or economic issues, sadly.

You seem to forget that high ranking Republicans and right wing talking heads have pushed this issue more than anyone else. Bachmann, Palin, Trump, Tea Party leaders, Fox News Channel crew come to mind immediately. There are dozens more but I don't remember all of them. I doubt that it's fair to say that the media is pushing this issue as an attack on Republicans when Republicans themselves are the ones pushing the issue. That makes no sense.

I'm more amused at how many people on this forum didn't think he was American to begin with.
|
Just curious, but how is this legitimate proof? I do believe he was born an American citizen, but couldn't someone just make this certificate?
|
Bad call, he was only proving the stupidity of the republicans by giving them that issue to btich about.

...I should just move to Canada now. FFS America, ffs...

LOL from the same "news article":
Donald Trump says
"I'd like to know how does he get into Harvard, how does he get into Colombia if he isn't a very good student," Trump said, asking why the president doesn't release his college records from Occidental College.
"If he wants to release it that's fine, if he doesn't want to release it that's fine too. But the word is he wasn't a very good student," Trump added.
