Nothing to do with being black, everything to do with our Constitution and the strict coherence to it.

To be fair, the Constitution has been ignored several times during American history. Witness Lincoln's refusal to recognize habeaus corpus during the Civil War and Andrew Jackson's outright refusing to go along with the Supreme Court's decision related to the Native Americans. The CIA has violated constitutional rights of their prisoners, even American ones, more than once as well. And those are just three that spring to mind.
Edit: Just saying all of those are far more dire than a birth certificate, yet they don't seem to be objected to all that much...

Being an American, this disgusts me. I really am sick of how many wackos we have in the states and sick of how many of them are involved in politics and the government.
When will this end, or more realistically, when will this lunacy be limited to the drug addicts and mentally insane. :r

Are you saying we made such big deals about the birth place of the past 43 presidents, and required their birth certificates?
Are you really arguing that the birther "movement" doesn't have racist undertones? LOL!

Canada, Canada~ :p + Show Spoiler +but then I don't really pay attention to Canadian politics, perhaps it is equal mud-bath over here.

I seriously can't believe this has been such an issue. A waste of time that succeeds only in making us look stupid.
So much other important stuff to worry about, IMO.

I can't believe this vocal minority got this reaction. It's an embarrassment to be Americam when things like this get so much attention and even need to be dealt with.

Wartime greatly extends the powers of the executive to the point where acts ordinarily unconstitutional may indeed become lawful when the nation is faced with an existential threat.
Naturally, the existential threat is what the debate tends to be over...moreover, it's questionable whether enemy combatants have full constitutional rights as it is. Hamdi v Rumsfeld and Boumediene v Bush illustrate this. Aliens have the right of habeas corpus, but many other rights are curtailed or entirely forsaken in wartime.
And if someone dares to bring up the whole "Congress never declared war herp derp" they should be slapped in the face.

I love this guy! People with "degrees in photoshop" looked at this! Like his sister who is a photographer! He also went to mainstream non-political photoshop sites to check! Also, the "enya" from Kenya was edited in. Obama is really from Kansas! You heard it here first people! And the "e" of "None" was also edited in! Obama is a FRENCH Kansasian!
Though I think he is lying. There are no non-political photoshop sites. Theyre all + Show Spoiler +Space Nazi Jews bent on faking the second coming of Christ by attacking from their Dark Side of the Moon base with UFOs, funded by the Rothschild family! And yes, I met a missionary who actually believed that.

Don't worry. The biggest part in making you look stupid was Bush Jr's job and he was extremely successful.

Summary of most of this thread:
Personally, I think it was a political mistake to ever engage with the birthers at all. The "issue" isn't going to disappear, if anything this has just lended legitimacy to some wingnuts. Should've just ignored this crap from the start.

Well to be fair, he just started campaigning for his second term. Nothing like a bit of drama to get some press.

Do you guys not realize that this is precisely the reaction Obama was trying to evoke by releasing this and making a news story out of it? In fact, he quite literally said "now we can get beyond this silliness and focus on serious issues." Don't you realize that he was never, ever forced to release anything, that in fact he WANTED to release it, and make the issue bigger than it needed to be?
I always knew there were nutjobs out there in the world but I never realized intelligent people could be so gullible and easily manipulated.

It's campaigning. It will make the GOP look like a bunch of nut-jobs.
It's just a means to a good end: keep the GOP away from the white house...

or Finally, also wanted to make the point that regardless of where Obama is born, he’s still not a Natural Born Citizen since both parents were not born on U.S. soil but I won’t hold my breath waiting for the media to educate the public on this fact.
You don't bat an eye and think, hey maybe this is bullshit? Kurt Nimmo is such a vitriolic writer (: edit: and no, I don't bat an eye at this. I know alex jones more personally than the glaring with makeup teleprompter reading sock puppets on the corporate controlled media.
So you're going to ignore the fact that he IS a natural born citizen of the US regardless of where his parents were born because he was born on US soil?

or maybe it was released to show the state of which america is in (a point)? how was the intelligent people gullible and manipulated, I'm sure most of them thought it was a stupid issue prior to releasing it (look at poll). So people's reaction is similar to before. What's wrong with making it a big deal anyways (saying that as if what you say Obama really wanted to happen)?

OCR tracing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_character_recognition
Some scanners will automatically try to separate letters from background into different layers. Since OCR is imperfect. It will often accidently separate some stuff and not others. That's why some numbers are and others aren't. Some parts of the signatures will be detected others won't.
The other part about some letters not looking like what they it should is just silly..duh. They don't know what typewriter wrote those and what defects it could have had.
And from my personal experience most of "professional" photoshop "experts" are horribly bad at understanding the underlying software. People just use the tools but have no idea how the algorithm that coded it works. Artists are not usually good engineers. So don't get too caught up by people saying "wow some experts say XYZ" because they are likely just slackers
edit: conclusion, someone used a scanner not knowing OCR was on. Software separates some parts of the image, which causes some weird effects. Photoshop artists with no deep understanding of software engineering freak out. Media will rush to publish a good story without worrying about actually looking it up. Nothing to see here.

As far as I know that bold statement isn't anywhere in the actual constitution, and I'm fairly certain that nothing that is directly prohibited by the Constitution can ever be lawful regardless of conditions (unless one isn't a strict constitutionalist). The Constitution is the supreme law of the land, after all.
And Lincoln was detaining plenty of people he recognized as American citizens. The CIA has done the same; they've also done plenty of unreasonable search and seizures outside of wartime.
