The community project started in the Brood War General forum (link) has met its initial goal of $100! Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this group effort.
I present to you yet another unprofessional banner and details below. It's a green star balloon, which is used for funding sponsored matches ("sponbbang" in Korean) on AfreecaTV, being held up by the collective might of the Brood War community. Yes...I shed a man tear on this paper, which is why I cropped out that part.
We will sponsor a $100 BO5 match between two top pro players on AfreecaTV.
The first broadcast will take place on Saturday, Mar 03 8:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). The cast will use replays and be streamed on the TeamLiquid Twitch channel. We will also post the cast on the upcoming events calendar on the side for easier tracking.
VODs will be posted on YouTube (link) directly after the cast.
The two players involved in the first BO5 match will be announced 48 hours prior to the cast.
The players will be chosen based on availability, recent story lines, and fan interest. I will try to gauge fan interest based on the posts made on TL by community members. Discuss your favorite matchups here!
Let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IMPORTANT EDITS:
1) It's going to be Flash vs Larva on the new ASL maps. 2) If the TeamLiquid twitch channel doesn't work, we will be using the following backups:
Fucking awesome. Thank you to lemmata and all the contributors. I'm hype to have foreign fandom mingle with the Korean scene on their turf and so directly after such a long time.
Nice, 1000 balloons spon match, go check http://sponbbang.com/bj/ Top 10 in February as player pool : Flash Last Snow Larva Soulkey Hero Light Ssak (army) Mind Jaedong

That would be really sweet but I guess the majority would want to see players like flash/larva/jd/best/sk/effort...
Players like flash/larva/jd/best/sk/effort play each other everyday, all you need to do is turn up their stream to see that. Sponsoring some oldschools or not-the-top might actually be more interesting and would give them more incentive to play starcraft (instead of PUBG)
Also some oldschool pros vs current top foreigners would be cool to see also. Could dewalt take on nada? eonzerg vs reach?
I agree with angrypofke. I would love to see a match between Reach and Nal_rA because they're so close in skill at the moment, and they have such a long history in the game.
EDIT: I just want to add that I think Stork vs. Firebathero would be a lot of fun as well!

doubt this will happen. The original campaign was for two ex-pros on Afreeca meaning that dewalt and eonzerg don't qualify. Nada vs Reach does though I'd rather see one of the top players atm.
I don't want to see a curb stomp. I really like big fans idea for JD, flash, or Larva to play on a cool map. We might not see JD vs Flash for awhile if they go military. Savor it now!
Edit: Another thing I'd like to see from lemmata's idea is more interaction between TL and the Korean pros who will play. It would be so cool to see fellow TLers get a chance to ask questions to the Korean players during the stream. No need for an interview, just simple friendly banter would be awesome. I hope we get to hear the pros interact with our foreign casters. =)
I hope it is not where they come to play and the only thing we see is "gg" in chat before they leave.
But I'm sure lemmata has already thought of this. Can't wait to see the relationships that form from this initiative.
obsing is a bit lackluster imo, otherwise this is awesome!
e: to not only be a whiny ass, I think the disconnect between caster and obs is what throws me off, but you already addressed it on stream so that's great stuff. loving the BW content <3

We will get that solved in the future, potentially just having the caster be the host streamer so he can obs for himself. Otherwise we might get people more familiar with obsing like Schamtoo as the host obs as well.
Thank you all so much for watching! A lot of fun to do this and always a great community event. Please let us know about any or all feedback you had on the production, we will always look for ways to improve the final product so everyone can enjoy to the utmost!
Sorry for bitching around on stream about the observer (which I think was lemmata himself?) It was a bit sad that the screen wasn't really centered during large fights and auto-following units (by rightclicking them) can be distracting during fights as well. However, it was definitely better from game 3 on! So go ahead and do it Also, big thanks for this initiative! I think this is a huge opportunity for us as the foreign community to show the koreans that we love them and follow their scene so closely. So yeah, big thanks to the organizers!!!

Obsing is pretty important to the viewing experience, so that's gonna be the top thing to improve for the next cast. That was fun though and Flashftw's commentary was great. Moreover, the players were able to see that foreign fans had funded a sponbbang.
