I like Midas but Iris is so strong TvT. On Peaks, I think Iris has a really good chance.
Tau Cross, I still think GoRush can do it over Anytime.
I'm curious how Zergman plays Arkanoid... but I think Nada will either crush him or lose barely.
And gooo GF. Go crush Rock.

My votes...

NaDa > Zergman
I think Zergman is underrated except in ZvZ where people finally see him for the monster he is, but I have to vote with my heart, and I love NaDa. Besides that, NaDa beat Zergman in Arkanoid during the group stage so I think he can do it again.

Goodfriend > Rock
I'm not sure if I'm just crazy or what, but GF beat Bisu in the last round. Bisu is a monster at PvT. GF's TvP looks fairly sharp right now and I've never had too much faith in Rock's PvT. Still, I'm worried since Tau Cross seems good for P.

Gorush > Anytime
I've never much cared for Anytime (come on, his lifetime wins are 50%, his match-up stats are fairly balanced so you can't blame a "weak match-up" and there are no recognizeable trends in his record -- and combine that with the subjective analysis of sloppily throwing units at his enemies a la Pusan without demonstrating quite as awe-inspiring macro and not-so-brilliant in-game decision making that he only makes up for with pre-planned, albeit brilliant, build orders, of which he can only produce so many) and I believe Gorush is a true ZvP monster. I hope he proves me right.

Iris > Midas
Pre-WCG I would have said tentatively that Iris is favored. Iris is a stud at TvT and it's Midas' weakest matchup. Post-WCG, I will say this: if Midas can't square himself around and get back into the form he was demonstrating when he almost knocked out Savior, then Iris will face trounce him and then face trounce him again in the same match.

Predictions and comments:

Arkanoid, thus far, has shown surprisingly Z > T results. Even Nada had a very tough time against Zergman on it in the group stages. Still, I just have to believe that Nada will find a way to pull this one out. Nada > Zergman.

Tau Cross is very much T > P. Dragoon pressure is weak, gas is abundant, there's a cliff above the natural, and the slender natural choke means that a fast push can be powerful, as well. Combine that with GF's what-the-fuck-oh-my-god surprise win over Bisu last week, and it's not hard to predict who's going to come out on top. GF > Rock.

Arcadia II, as the statistics point out, is a decent enough PvZ map. There's none of the almost crippling imbalance you find on many land maps. That said, GoRush is fantastic at ZvP. I'm going with Anytime only because he's been practicing PvZ so much this OSL for his games against July and GGPlay, but this is definitely the hardest bet of the week. Anytime > GoRush.

And as for Midas and Iris, there's just no way Midas can win this one. It's by far the easiest pick of the week. Iris is especially good at TvT, I don't recall Midas ever winning a game against Iris, and during this OSL, Iris has already had three TvTs on Peaks, all of which he won. Iris > Midas.

Nada 14 CC to the side of the obstructions. Zergman 12 hatch at the side as well. Zergman follows with another hatchery in front of his little, um, temple-blocked choke before pool.

Zergman's lair is finished, and he's added a spire in addition to a fourth hatchery and an extractor at his expansion.

Nada is adding a control tower to one starport, and he's tossed up turrets at his mineral lines.

He's currently killing an overlord with a wraith, so Zergman knows what's coming.

Spire is done, and Nada's still pumping wraiths from two starports. He's now adding a second barracks. Zergman is trying to lose as few overlords as possible, but I believe he's lost two already. His first mutalisks are now out, and he's expanding to the other patch within his base, bringing his hatchery count to five and his base count to three.

Zergman probes Nada's base and loses three or four mutalisks to cloaked wraiths. Nada is now massing MM from four barracks.

Zergman's third expansion is up and running--three geysers!

Nada is adding a science facility and killing the obstructions at his third expansion while he builds another CC.

Nada probes Zergman's base and loses many of his wraiths to mutalisks. Zergman is back at Nada's base trying to stop Nada's expansion. Nada, however, has too many wraiths and MM, so Zergman retreats.

Nada has two science vessels, as well, so mutalisks won't be effective for too much longer.

Nada irradiates Zergman's mutalisks and Zergman loses all but five of them. Zergman has maybe 12 hydralisks back at his base that have speed; he has not morphed any lurkers yet.

Nada is attacking his front with MM--looks like he's ready to move out.

Zergman has expanded to the main and one of the naturals of the bottom-right expansion. Zergman is moving towards the middle with maybe 30 hydralisks.

Nada has four veseels and some MM there as well.

Nada loses a vessels but pushes onward, killing many hydralisks. Seven lurkers pop out for Zergman JUST IN TIME, though, and he manages to hold off Nada's attack. Nada, in the meantime, has destroyed the main bottom-right expansion and looks to be in good shape.

Zergman saved his natural expansion in the bottom right, but Nada is moving towards it with a large army while simultaneously dropping Zergman's natural.

The drop doesn't do any damage. Nada's attack on the bottom-right, however, does. The expansion went down without Nada losing more than a unit or two. Nada is still overlord hunting with his limited wraith force, and Zergman looks to be trying to take the upper-left.

Zergman is loading his entire army into overlords. He cruises into Nada's natural and... and... loses everything to two bunkers and mass irradiate.

Nada has loaded four dropships with MM. Zergman is dropping the natural again, and this time he forces Nada to lift. Nada, however, has maybe eight sciences vessels, so he just irradiates all the lurkers, stims some MM, and land it again.

He's moving out with a MM/vessel army. He's at Zergman's main. He irradiates, well, quite a few units, but I'm not sure he's going to be able to crack that narrow choke.

Zergman is dropping Nada's other expansion, but Nada is well-prepared with two bunkers. The drop fails.

Nada drops four dropships full of MM at Zergman's natural and is raping it... until Zergman pulls his hydra/lurk army back. Nada, siezing the day, goes all-in up front and looks... to... be... winning... yes, he rapes Zergman's army.

There's just no way Nada can lose this. I'm not sure why Zergman is staying.

Ah, Zergman has dropped Nada's expansion again with two lurkers, but Nada just irradiates them and goes back to mining.

This game is really classic Nada. He's lost at least six vessels and he still has 10 easily.

Nada has killed Zergman's main and one of his naturals, and Zergman is still dropping Nada's natural with lurkers. Zergman, however, has practically no army, whereas Nada's army is massive.

Nada drops and kills Zergman's final natural, and Zergman GGs.

Nada > Zergman.

The Koreans have rather eloquently stated that "Protoss is bonus to GoodFriend." Given that TvP has always been his worst matchup, this seems like an odd proclamation.

GF is making a bunker as Rock's first dragoon arrives at GF's natural. Rock kills a marine but a second marine makes it into the bunker, so Rock can't pressure until range kicks in.

Rock is still making pure dragoons and probes. Range should be done soon.

GF is adding two factories and an armory. After keeping his probe at his second gas natural for a full minute, Rock finally adds a nexus there, too. A shuttle/reaver is chugging towards GF's base.

Rock drops the reaver and promptly loses his shuttle. HIs scarabs go all retarded and he doesn't score more than a couple SCV kills.

Rock is pumping units from four gateways in his main and has three running expansions. He's also making another reaver, assumedly so that he can lose this one to a lone turret, too.

GF moves out with a bunch of tanks and a few marines. Rock attacks GF, killing most of his tanks but losing all of his dragoons in the process. GF runs a couple vultures past Rock's containing dragoons during this little skirmish and kills a bunch of probes at Rock's gas third. Rock has handled it, but GF definitely got the better of that exchange.

Rock is adding a hidden stargate between his natural and gas third, and GF is taking his gas third.

Rock has another shuttle/reaver cruising towards GF's gas third, and he's made a fleet beacon and another stargate in his little hidden area.

GF, from the first person view, looks sort of bored. He's probably only utilizing 1/3 of his APM potential!

Anyway, Rock finally drops his reaver at GF's gas third and kills the SCV that's building the CC. GF quickly replaces it, though, and Rock, yes, loses ANOTHER SHUTTLE AND REAVER.

Rock is expanding to the mineral-only at 9. and producing carriers from three stargates. His land army is tiny, given how much he's poured into expansions, reavers, and carrier tech.

GF is still mining from his main, natural, and gas third. Rock is trying to make GF believe that he has a much larger army than he actually does by fake attacking every now and then. GF looks like he might actually be buying it.

Rock has four carriers out. GF needs to move out before that number gets much larger... and he does!

GF's army, however, is not huge, but he has a strong economy and should be able to reinforce.

Rock goes after GF's attacking army with carriers and counters GF's gas third with maybe 15 zealots. GF responds by raping Rock's natural with vultures and retreating his tanks to deal with the threat back at home.

I have no earthly idea who's taking the worst of this.

Both players get some semblance of order back in their houses. GF is once again mining from his gas third, and Rock has consolidated his army. It's not large. GF's is larger. Rock, however, has more mining bases, but then again, he lost a ton of probes in the last attack. I'm not sure how many SCVs GF lost, but I don't think it was very many.

GF moves out again, and Rock once again counters. GF is ready this time, however, and presses onward with a SHITLOAD of goliaths while leaving a few units behind to defend his gas third. Rock has maybe eight carriers, though, and he's retreated his goons to help fight the goliaths. It looks like he's going to kill GF's entire army and lose maybe, um, 2-3 carriers. He still has 6-7 carriers and a handful of ground units.

GF is expanding to the gas third for the empty main at 12. Rock is attacking GF's gas third again, focus-firing on the CC. He kills it before GF can chase him away with a goliath/tank army.

GF has maybe 20 goliaths and a few tanks. Rock has maybe 18 drgoons, six carriers, and a few high templar, whom he just added to his force. Rock has also expanded to the empty main's natural at 10.

GF showed a lot of his old TvP form here. Overly-conservative play leading to him getting rolled because he refused to move out. I thought we were in for a new, aggressive GF after his games against Bisu, but no, no, no.

Rock's APM that game was only 208. His minimum APM was 125, max 333.

GF, on the other hand, had 357 with a peak of 460.

alright then

Gorosh top left anytime bottom left, hatch at mineral only for gorush, nexus at nat for anytime, also forge, and hatch at nat for gorush, anytime making a cannon at his new nexus. LOTS of fans holding yellow baloons that says GoRush (i think)...

anytime making core + one more cannon, has some zealots. gorush only has a band of lings and a lair morphing. all expansions up and running now (2 hatch 1 nexus). spire coming from gorush, citadel for anytime and stargate.

first corsair out, den up, anytime making nexus at mineral only. 2 evo chambers coming for gorush, making hatch at 12. extremely passive play for both, the only casualties being 1 probe and an overlord. gorush amounting many hatcheries in his base. looks like gorush has a base at the top right nat now as well. hive morphing. anytime whoring many corsairs. gorush making hydras. robotics + obs up for anytime. MANY zealots out for anytime! he simply charges all his zealots into gorushs choke where many many hydras await. most zeals die the rest flees and takes down the 12 hatch as they stumble upon it

ok anytimes plan is becoming more clear, he charges even more zeals into gorush and does some damage while huting the overlords with his sairs. the plan is moderatly successful. gorush has only hydras and lings, not sure about his tech. zeals and HT for anytime.

i think anytime's timing there was great. gorush was facing zealot/cors up till then (with a nice raid where he raped most of gorush's overlords), which hydraling would be great against

I must admit that I am shaken by Gorush's loss, especially given all the energy I spent arguing that Gorush is a ZvP star and that ZvP is his strongest matchup. A part of me whishes I had stayed up all the way to see the game and try and figure out what was going through Gorush's head, but by the sounds of it not enough was. I still think Anytime is over-hyped. If he were not a champion, nobody would give two shits about him, or at least that is what I feel. His record is that of a very average player, not only overall but in every matchup (about 50% wins in every matchup) and he very often doesn't make it look pretty when he plays. His great talent is his ability to devise preset strategies revolving around unique build orders. It's a good talent, but he's no Ra by any stretch of the imagination. I guess people just like him because they think he is a great toss hope since he happened to come on during an era when toss was at a low, yet far more impressive I think was Reach's desperate hang on as the lone toss player doing anything at all back two years ago, or Ra standing up and giving a speech in support of Protoss players after a major league win during a time where few toss players were having any success at all.

NaDa against Zergman was a sound victory. NaDa won with pure SK Terran over lurk/hydra macro. I DID see that live and it was impressive.

GF...you knock out Bisu for this kind of a performance? How dare you.

Actually I used to like Gorush's ZvP style a lot more. Back when he'd won his last 20ish ZvP, he used to play a bit like July plays now, being really aggressive overall, going mutalisks pretty often, etc. Nowadays he almost always plays a kind of extremely safe "mass-expand-while-passive" style which doesn't work nearly as well for him (even though his record is still decent, but he hasn't faced many big names lately, until yesterday). I guess he was influenced a lot by Rumble/Mumyung since that's precisely how they play the matchup.

Anytime is overhyped imho.. look all his wins this season (especially the pvz's) none of those games really impressed me and every game seemed like the zerg had done something incredibly stupid -.- that being said gorush hasnt really been impressive of late so i did vote anytime and get my point, but still... his game against casy is one of the finest examples of really substandard play for a "S-Class" gamer.
I agree that his strength seems to be exploiting a good build (innovation too) but after So1 we really didnt see much change from him really, all his games thus far have been reletively standard... although imo he has top class execution which certainly helps.
I still think that StorK has been the "best" out of the 3 neo-toss kings (although pusans 4th/3rd is not bad), and has produced some EPIC pvz games that simply leave anytimes games for dead (i.e Stork vs Gorush PL Final, Stork vs Savior PL Semifinal (savior game is less widely known but is epic nonetheless)). And to top it all off, stork's pvz is considered his WEAK mu... (his pvt/pvp is frightening... pvp especially).
i just REALLY hope for a nada anytime final and have nada rape the living shit out of him for what he did to boxer.... and then nada will get a golden mouse!
or anytime will win and he will be known as the greatest kill joy of all time

Stork's PvZ is badly underrated IMO. His record says "slouch" but here you have to take the statistics with a grain of salt because a.) he's lost a lot of games to top players (8 games played vs Chojja, 6 losses, 3 losses to July and 4 games played with 3 losses to Yellow earlier in his career, a game against Savior as you mentioned, a win over Yellow[arnc], a win over Gorush 1-1 with Silver, 1-2 against Jju and so forth) and b.) the quality of the games he has played. He plays solid, win or lose. With some of the razor's edge games he has (like vs CHojja on Azalea), he just needs to learn to find that extra little bit that will drive him over the edge. Anytime by contrast either makes it look elegant or makes it look ugly. I also think he's had some luck recently with being able to win games he shouldn't, and not just in PvZ either. I really don't think he deserved that win over Casy on Arcadia during the group stages. Casy just has unusually weak macro for an S-class progamer and Anytime was able to stall by mass suiciding units. I like when a player is in such control that they can keep the pressure up non-stop (Savior vs Kingdom game 2, this MSL), but Anytime reminded me of someone slamming his head into a wall until the wall breaks. Not pretty.

When Anytime first went big I really liked him, but he's too hit-or-miss for me and I don't like the bandwagon train behind him since I feel he hasn't earned it yet. I can tolerate the Ra and Reach fanboys without thinking less of those players since those guys did TONS to save Protoss during the low point of professional Protoss gaming, and I have great respect for their consistency.

I voted for Anytime to beat Gorush tomorrow, but I hope Gorush takes it from him. I'd rather see Gorush move on then see Anytime move on.

Just to get a quick word in. I don't think Casy is really S-Class because his TvP is REALLY weak. Besides, that, TvT and TvZ, he could definately be an S-Class.
Also, Anytime's wins this season only seem to make the zerg look stupid because they failed. His games vs GGPlay and GoRush so far lead me to believe he is definately the best PvZ out here with Ra atm. If Kingdom actually showed us what he is actually capable of vs Silver I dunno.. but Kingdom's latest showing was such a T.T
Stork, we'd love to see him back but his PL showing has been lackluster and man.. his individual league performances have a long way to come.

Yarr. Wise words from a true corsair! You go for the overlords and I hunt down the drones!

Anytime fighting!

But more seriously then since this turned into something of a debate:

It takes TWO good players to make an epic game. If one player does not fit the part, the game will not stand out as much. The reason Gorush ZvP is renowned is that that he doesn't kill off tosses well in the early part of the game, and instead sits back and hope to overrun the toss with mass lategame. This allows both players to strut their stuff with high tech units and lots of battles and spells etc. His track record for these long running games is not that great actually, I'd wager about 50-50, but he does show some really nice fun play against corsair-reaver-carrier toss.

To conclude, long games with lots of action stick on peoples mind.

What makes anytime great is his huge balls! Basically he's the most macho player out there right now, going very hardcore and also succeding owning his opponents with great builds, execution and micro, and not a shabby macro at all to boot. People may argue that going for more conservative play is a sign of strength, but anytime (like reach) seem to prefer hectic and aggressive games (at least if it's initiated by themselves with a particular build).

So if he owns the other guy so badly that he doesn't know what to do, it sort of takes some gloss of the victory, but I don't really mind. It's not like people mind when Boxer does it?
I wouldn´t call him stupid, but let´s just say he´s unlucky when thinking...

So basically, you're saying Anytime was just lucky that Casy sucked hard that day?
I think you're biased, because Casy has a pretty shitty tvp so it was really no surprises he lost that game. Anyway, you call Casy an "S class pro", well one of the best pro atm, but i don't agree, he won his osl abusing his excellent tvz. Silver is given a chance to win a msl that was full of excellent players, yet would you call him an s class pro?

Anytime is not the best player in the world, he doesn't have an astounding mu where he's unstoppable, but he's more than a decent player. i'd say he would consistently destroy Casy, he won 2 bo5 against oov and boxer and he proved to be quite capable in pvz and pvp. His ratio is so-so? well you said yourself you have to be careful with ratio when talking about Stork.

You can always talk about the way his games look like, that's not a point where one can be objective, some will think he's using too much stupid do or die strats, some will think is a genius.
I don't really like Anytime, but i respect his play and i consider him completely able to win this osl.

Christ dude, did you actually read what I wrote? Let me reiterate: Anytime either wins with an elegant strategy and strong control or he makes it look terribly ugly. When he loses he makes it look ugly and even quite often when he wins he makes it look ugly. He's nowhere near consistent at "making his opponents look like piece of shit players" as you expect a true champion to be.

Sun Tzu said "What the ancients called a clever warrior is one who not only wins, but excels at winning with ease." Savior is a clever warrior. Oov is a clever warrior. Those guys make it look easy. Anytime is not a clever warrior since most of the time he makes it look ugly. Capiche?

The only matchup where the statistics don't fully explain his ability is PvT, in which he has faced a number of top gamers but not a list quite so exclusively of top gamers as Stork has had the bad luck of playing.

My point about the game with Casy was that Anytime did not dominate it as one would expect when placing a player with weak macro (Casy) on a macro map against somebody known as a macro toss.

I really don't think there's any justification in rating Anytime over guys like Rock (who has consistently appeared in starleagues for quite some time now) or Pusan (who hasn't won but has made multiple top 4 appearances and done a better job qualifying for individual leagus), and I don't see him as being as talented as Reach or even Daezang (who has shown us he has the skills but hasn't managed to put up any big results with them yet) and Kingdom and Ra are just flat more dominant. And don't give Kingdom shit about having bad PvZ since he just faced two huge ZvP monsters back-to-back. His lifetime win percentage against Zerg is much more indicative of his PvZ skill with 55% wins and just as good if not a better list of Zergs he has toppled than Anytime has.

guess I read to much into "makes it look ugly" dunno what else to make of it tho honestly. talking about consistency there arent really a lot of protoss players with more achievements than anytime, there's like 5-6 tops? I don't keep track of players overall winning ratio but iirc most of them(the famous ones) lie somewhere around 60%~

that's what I thougt you meant by making it look ugly, making it look as if it's the zerg failing when it's him dominating. when he beat july (who everyone said was unbeatable zvp remember?) people immediately started saying july played shitty/not seriously(lol). he just gets so many undeserved negative reactions whenever he wins. I dont get where you get the " I don't like the bandwagon train behind him since I feel he hasn't earned it yet" what bandwagon ? QQ

I don't see Anytime as a macro player. He's no Pusan, i think of him more as a strategic player, i remember more his dts against Yellow or double robo against oov.
I wouldn't exactly rate him over Stork as i also expect Stork to show a lot, but Rock, Pusan? Rock has one strat pvt (go carriers as fast as you can), consistently make it to osl but never really make it big. He might proove me wrong this time, but he never went trough ro8. Pusan is a choker, he's a fun player to watch, but he's the Junwi of protoss. Yes he qualified to probably more osl and msl than Anytime, but you have to consider the osl slump too.
Daezang has yeet to show what he can do. People got excited because he "almost" won against Savior. That's not an accomplishment.
I don't compare Anytime to old school tosses either, they proved a lot, consistently over the years. But among new tosses, he is the most accomplished and i don't see any reason to say he's less skilled than any of them.
He's doing a great osl, he was in the group of death, he faced an in-form GGplay, coming with an insane win ratio and he's doing well against Gorush now. What do you want him to do to show he's good?

And i'm not really saying this as an Anytime fanboy, i'd much prefer to see Gorush qualify, i like him a lot and i'd like him to win an osl =)

Anytime's play this OSL is reminding me of the one he won (SO1 was it?) where EVERY single game was so much fun to watch.

And I agree with Mortality about his game vs. Casy. If you actually bother to watch that game, Casy had a huge advantage. I dunno what happened, but Anytime somehow came back by throwing away army after army. Casy was in such a dominant position and pretty much threw away the game. It was still a fun game to watch, hehe
