You started by questioning me why it's a false dichotomy. I accepted that maybe it isn't and for you to please categorize the handicapped person. You said that was offensive. Sounds like you agreed with me. Now you just seem to be freestyling rhetoric. Have fun.

Seriously, both of you, enough. This thread has gonna completely off track. The discussion is interesting but this is not the place for it. Take it to pm! Please no more hotkey discussion, at least until we've focused on the issues with this patch (hotkeys likely will come in remastered but I'm guessing here). Anyways, any further discussion on this will force my hand. So, let's play nice and focus on 1.18 instead!

Maybe you should warn mishimaBeef for promoting (map)hacking. Nevermind his dishonest and confusing debating, that is all over the place, and lacks and coherence.

The discussion wasn't interesting. Even despite my very hard efforts, it was cringe-worthy. It takes at least two people to have a good debate. Don't slight me by calling the discussion where I was involved in 'interesting' and then warning me for something completely inconsequential.

Without reading any of your posts, I already decided that both of you are cringe-worthy to have an overly serious discussion here.

I don't think this has been posted here, from the afreeca feed thread:

Interesting, I guess most of the problems are only in online play and don't apply to LAN?

That was my same thought after I saw today's SSL being played on 1.18

I would have to think so. It'll be nice for the observer to be able to smoothly follow units now by right clicking it instead of having to use the arrow keys. However I wish we could hide the first person view rectangles on the mini map, those will get a little annoying I think ;/

I saw the handicap argument used a couple of times but just because you are missing one leg doesnt mean that you get to participate in the 100m sprint at Olympics in a F1.

Ideally this kind of things would be up to tournament organizers to set the rules like how we have Paralympics. However, since kespa was forced out, tournament organizers have been weak. They decided to switch to the unproven (proven to have quite a few issues if we want to be accurate) 1.18 version even in the middle of the ASL. The sporting regulation in place is pretty much from the kespa era, I don't think SSL or ASL even have the means to even think about it. On top of that, blizzard will now be able to set the rules of the semi-competitive players with the ladder, which will force ASL/SSL to follow the rules set by a company who's primary aim is to sell games and not make sure that the sport is profitable on the long term.

I personally don't really care if one plays against me even with macros setup to take care of his macro (as a matter of fact I did knowingly play against aimbot users in quake), however those people just shouldn't be allowed to compete in the same category as people who commit to playing the game how it is. Just like you dont bend the rules of the Olympics in order to allow handicapped people to compete at the cost of the sport, you create a separate set of rules for the people concerned if it's really needed. We have the Olympics and we also have the Paralympics, handicapped people are free to compete in the main category if they can follow the rules, but if you start allowing wheelchairs in the running marathon you are going to run into some issues.

In short I'm fine with custom hotkeys and any other clutch one might need to allow handicapped persons to play in better conditions as long as it means that competitions are created for handicapped persons that allows them to use those clutches in a competitive environment and not simply kill the existing regulation. As for pub games, I'm all for allowing everyone to play with everyone with as many clutches as one might feel like they need.

90% of the observer tools are useful and an improvement but like GoShox said the colored view ports are really distracting from a viewers perspective. Hopefully we will get a toggle for that the same way you can hide the resources counter.

New bug fixes incoming:

Greetings Executors, Cerebrates, and Commanders,

We'll be releasing a hotfix today to address some of the live issues. We'll also be starting some new threads to specifically address requests and feedback like keybinds. Notes:

Specific Changes & Improvements
Observer chat no longer displays for players in-game

Bug Fixes
Fixed invalid password bug for private games
Fixed receiving credit for beating AI
Fixed Brood War games showing up as lobbies for players in StarCraft
Fixed firewall helper crash on startup
Fixed IME issues on Mac
Fixed crash when attempting to rejoin previous channel under certain circumstances
Fixed most Friends chat commands in game (/f m still being fixed)

Known Issues
Creation of control groups failing when middle mouse button is held down: have a fix in test, will release soon
Mouse speed incorrect using fullscreen on high resolution monitors: have a fix in test, will release soon
Still working through chat commands that are not implemented in the new chat system
Improved logging to help gather information on graphics card related issues
/stats and /f m inoperable; have a fix in test

Is the middle mouse button scrolling new? Never noticed that...

I hope the list of known issues will get more detailed with the following release notes. It is good to know what they are working on....

Blue post by Pete Stilwell on starcraft forums:

Howdy Friends,

The known issues are intended to indicate big ticket items that are next in line. We're reading these forums voraciously, and we're about to spin up some additional posts to focus on known issues, their prioritization, and where we're headed with other popular feature requests.

Also to clarify: we intend to heal any issues created with the tech changes from 1.16 to 1.18 - chat and any gameplay related problems - we've been verifying and creating bugs for tracking and fixing as you bring them up. As always, thanks for being such a great community to work with.

Cheers,
Pete

Glad to hear that they are listening to the feedback. All we can do now that 1.18 is out is be patient and hope that most of the bugs affect online play only so that ASL and SSL are not affected.

Pete Stilwell seems to care about the community. As a current SC2 player (I used to play BW before), I'm glad he's not like David Kim and Dustin Browder. I've also watched his interview here:

Blizzard's been really good about this with most of their universes/franchise lately. I just hope they don't always cave to pressures from outside if it doesn't fit their goal.

Pete Stillwell is such a dear. The patch had its problems and the remaster has its concerns, but he seems very aware of them and seems to be open and transparent about it all in the meantime. It hasn't been a perfect patch, but it's hard to stay mad at him if he follows through with those fixes.

All the people asking for key rebinds are triggering me something fierce.
The point of remastered is to update gfx while keeping the original game intact.
If you aren't going to play without rebinds guess what, nobody cares about you or your entitled first world opinion. You're free to play any of the other video games EVER MADE.

Yeah they are doing the best job one can possible hope for. I don't get the hatred sometimes here. They are doing what they are supposed to be doing: listen to what the progamers want, and fixing it.

It's very refreshing to see that this game is going exactly in the direction veterans want.
