Greetings Pioneers, Blizzard would like to thank our dedicated Commanders, Cerebrates, and Executors who have participated in the PTR. For being vocal on these and other forums; for adding to the data we used to analyze and fix problems; for pioneering to discover if our myriad changes would change gameplay; we salute your efforts to ensure an epic product for the wider community. Your input has introduced ideas that we will discuss and implement in the coming months, and helped resolve a few we were on the fence about. One, in particular, was the rebinding of hotkeys. We released the work-in-progress version you used to gauge sentiment, and garner feedback on what should or should not be included in such a feature. We're reviewing all the input - and will come to a resolution in the future - but will not release hotkey rebinding with 1.18. Though we're bringing down the PTR, the dialogue does not end. We look forward to our continued collaboration on this game that we all hold so dear. Cheers, Classic Games https://us.battle.net/forums/en/starcraft/topic/20754155641

1. I'm old, (35), Stretching to hit P to make a probe every 20 seconds (less for more bases) is not fun. Nor to build pylons 2. Yes I play Sc2, I'd like to keep my keys similar so I don't get finger twisting fun when I switch between games. Ok so what they had wasn't everyone's cup of tea. but it was USABLE. Some great posters here made up little profiles for Grid layouts etc which made the process pretty easy to set up. I don't see an issue with them leaving it as is and iterating as they plan to anyway.

I have no intention of ever changing my hotkeys as they're way too ingrained in me, but there's absolutely no reason not to have customizable hotkeys (with regards to what was allowed in the PTR at least, I'm much more hesitant on adding/modifying location and control group hotkeys). It makes the game easier to get into for new players as they can make their hotkeys more intuitive, but it's not like a hotkey change is going to make people pros. As someone pointed out, Blizzard is being really ambiguous with their wording. Given that the reception for customizable hotkeys has been pretty positive on here and the official forums, I wonder what would make them take a different course of action. I'm still holding out hope that they are just trying to redesign the UI for it and maybe fix some bugs or something, and they just don't want to hold up 1.18 for it. I've been so impressed with how they handled the PTR that I don't want to see them screw up something so simple now.

They're just waiting to release the custom hotkeys to make the menu more streamlined and perhaps they want to keep it as a remastered only feature, so they can sell more copies. That would be really awful. I don't think hotkey rebinding is enough of an advantage to warrant banning from tournaments or anything, but giving people on Remastered a mechanical advantage would totally defeat the purpose of making 1.18 and SC:R interoperate. If it's going to be included it should be included with both.

Because if it's an issue of brood war elitist getting mad about being able to rebind hotkeys...that's ridiculous lol. Hopefully Blizzard clarifies that there will indeed be hotkey customization/rebinds.

Yeah... Really hoping so too. I played so much more SC2 than BW in recent years so to be able to have somewhat of a hybrid in terms of controls would be ideal. This is one of the big reasons I was playing a ton when 1.18 came out. At the end of the day, there will always be third party programs that help you rebind stuff, but I would rather see Blizzard bite the bullet and commit to this.
