http://www.ygosu.com/community/real_article/st/282566/?frombest=Y

So Sea and Bermuda talked about what jaedong is currently thinking and doing yesterday during stream. Here are the translations

(1) "During the season when Sea, Jaedong, Tyson, and Bermuda were all in one team. Sea used to win 50% of the time vs jaedong. Jaedong used to win all his protoss matchups.

(2) When jaedong lost to tyson in starleague, he broke his keyboard

(3) Jaedong has lost interest in sc2 and even said sc2 is not fun anymore

(4) Jaedong is lonely these days

(5) Flash told Jaedong to come to afreeca and possibly stream bw like him. Jaedong has never seen Flash this happy in a while. It really looks like flash enjoys playing bw with other old gamers

(7) Jaedong has recently played sc1 and even joined a clan, trying to disguise himself as a ordinary user.

I think it's fairly obvious he's retiring from sc2 at this point. I hope he goes to afreeca as no stream is a sad stream
When I think of something else, something will go here

Looking at the original post instead of Sea going 50/50 with Jaedong it says that Sea won more and that this is confirmed by other team members. It also said that though Sea had the winning record vs Jaedong he never ranked first on the team because every time they would have team-ranking matches Sea lost in overall pts because Jaedong would go 4-0 against Jaehoon*, Tyson, and Sang/Terminator each while Sea would lose a random game to Tyson (Sea said its because hes terran lol).

*Jaehoon said that at first he lost 0-4 but later on he would manage to take a game and lose 1-4.

Yeah Jaedong's presence in SC2 is near-nonexistent and he didn't even attempt to qualify for Korean leagues. Wouldn't be surprised if he announces going back to BW. Wonder if EG would continue to sponsor him in that endeavor, or if neo-BW is too niche.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

In point 6 it says that Jaedong said he doesn't know about anything else but he has confidence to be the best in zvz if he returns.

Jaedong should retire

Pretty sure at this point he already did. It is just waiting "official" announcement.

- He left EG
- Deleted his twitter
- Did not participate in the only leagues he is allowed to and will not have a chance to do so until the end of 2016 (Which is about 7 more months).

(7) Jaedong has recently played sc1 and even joined a clan, trying to disguise himself as a ordinary user.

This won't work for long. Imagine the godlike muta micro dissecting you every time you play this random zerg user.

Thank you very much for the translation/s!

Not surprising to say the least.

The part about Jaedong being lonely is sad though :/

It's always nice getting these behind-the-scenes looks at some of our favorite progamers. I feel like because of the nature of the interviews they gave during the KeSPA era, we didn't get to see who they really were much. Programs like Old Boy and Yoonjoon Becomes a Progamer brought a little exposure to some of those things but stuff like this and Rekrul's progamer gossip are what I yearn for ^^

I'm glad to see that JDG expressed SC2 isn't fun anymore. Usually when pros are quitting they don't say that they lost interest in the game/they don't feel it's fun anymore, but if every pro that retired did state it semi-officially maybe that'd have some weight on the dev team continuing to ruin the game :V

I don't know about that, I think that the game is mostly fun.

No surprise here. If he doesn't enjoy sc2 anymore he should switch back. No need to do something you don't like.

Sure, but for the people who dislike it, seeing so many pro players quitting the game for diverse reasons didn't show if some pros retired because they don't like the game anymore. Now, at least for JDG, we know. And we can relate.

Not surprising. Jaedong is not gonna learn any new tricks and being a pro at his age without finding success hardly makes sense.

Understandable. Would be a big blow to SC2 though; A Jaedong participating in GSL and S2SL is what SC2 viewership needs as we have seen in the first season (together with Stork).

I would love if Broodwar got big everywhere. After all its simply demand/viewership that attracts sponsors. If suddenly 100k people decide its worth to play and watch Broodwar we might just get that. Yes I know this is just a FantaSy :D

with no beta release date (in sight) it's probably best to hold off on speading it for fear of hyping it too early and all interest being killed before it's released

Jaedong has not looked motivated or happy in sc2 since 2014/15, hopefully he can enjoy BW again. What about his military service though?

Not surprising at all. After he left Korea his results have gotten worse and worse over time so it seems obvious this has let to low motivation.

Also, with the current WCS system, he can only compete in Korea and to do so he would have to live in a teamhouse which he has stated he doesn't want to do any more.

So going back to BW is pretty much the only option he has left if he wants to keep playing Starcraft.

I mean at this point we need to see and support the new generation of players and the upcomming foreigners. You can never hype the only generation of players. But alot of ppl using it as an excuse to bash SC2

No problem for me that JD is going back to BW. But my problem is using it as a excuse of random forum users to force their opinion to others...

I think he showed us all how great was his tenacity, by fighting over and over to get good at this game, that's truly an inspiration. He has nothing to prove.

But he should have retired a year ago, when it was already clear he couldn't be relevant to this scene any more.

Best of luck to him in the retirement castle, he will probably make more money there anyway.

Dear INno and all the former STX boys.

I love watching Flash's stream and other BW streamers. I would love to tune into JD's stream as well :D Never played BW myself but I certainly can appreciate the game.

I love Jaedong but would never want him to play a game he isn't interested in. Best of luck to him whatever he decides...and if it's BW, I'll definitely be watching. He has one of the most impressive and pleasing POVs to watch in my opinion.

Ok, this means SC2 is more like a dead meat as JD said SC2 is even not fun as before.

Which new generation of players are you talking about? There's no top new players, even Life is gone. I think we shuold face the fact that sc2 is past its prime for 2 years now. There won't be a new swell of new top players.

Not in the Korean scene no, but, with the WCS life support format we're getting some new foreigners doing quite well.

Since 1v1 RTS games are not as popular as it once was I really wish jaedong and flash would shift their eyes to fighting games as it's still a 1v1 game. With street fighter 5 being fresh and new I really think they could perform well in that game and they have many transferable skills(finger speed, reactions, mind games etc.).

Their popularity could also help grow the Korean fighting game scene.

I mean infiltration started competitive street fighter at age 25 and became one of the greatest players ever. With flash and jaedong being so talented and hard working who knows what they could accomplish.

Well...one can dream

There are new rising stars in EU and NA and even in korea. Hopefully there will be some more drafts. Jesusi christ stop living in the past. Everyone will retire or stop playing the game at some point. And new players will come.

The biggest wall is comming from ppl like you? My favorite player reitred? dead gaem, new player? noob...

You don't even give new guys the cachne. Feedback from LotV is positive. Viewership is okay, EU and NA players are finally have chance to compete? What more you want lol

Or he just got bored of the game? He's been playing competitively for a long ass time (over 10 years I believe now?). He enjoyed sc2 and then grew bored of it. Whether it's because of the game or he's just tired of competing, doesn't make sc2 a bad game.

I didn't quit sc2 because it was a bad game (especially now when it's at it's peak). I quit because after 5 years of playing, I just got sick of it. I still watch sc2 and enjoy the matches at times.

It could be the other way around, you can't train as hard on a game that you don't find fun to play, hence you don't get as much success.

It is a possibility I suppose, I did enjoy broodwar more than SC2 but also had a fair bit more success so I might be biased too, I just wish they would make warcraft 4 at this point so we have a healthy competitive RTS scene instead of a decaying one

This is spot on.
Of course the likes of FlaSh, Jaedong and Bisu love BW more, they were hugely successful in it.

And yet all the great players from 1.6 are doing just fine in CSGO. Are we really going to shift the blame to Jaedong, FlaSh etc.? And let's not forget dudes like Jangbi, Stork, and Bisu who were just like yeah fuck this shit... There's nothing wrong with SC2, they're just bad at the game, right?

It's a different game, enough said. Much more so different than between 1.6 and CS:GO.

If they feel that they are going to do better or be happier in Brood War, then that's fine. That's where they truly shined after all.

Starcraft 2 is a good game in its own right, but don't expect every Brood War player to love it. It's not good or bad, it's just different. That means that taste comes into play, hence people going back to Brood War.

1.6 is way closer to cs:go than bw is to sc2. People think bw is similar to sc2 just because of the name, if you've played both games you would know that they are entirely different, like, not even close. Cs:go and 1.6 are similar enough so that successful players from one game can easily translate their skills to the other one. Hell, even the maps are basically the same.

Thanks for posting this, the negativity from some old BW Fanboys or even Elite Korean SC2 one and only is just going extremly on my balls and this negativity isn't helping anybody at all, remeber the daed game shit? Did it something positive or anything? Not at all. I don't like Blizzards Sc2 Aproach sometimes still we get new Talent, in EU and NA, watched Today's DH Final? Nerchio vs Showtime was fuckign awesome and really good Games. Foreigners arent just shit like the haters always say, the Numbers where good for SC2. The Viewers are still higher then Heroes which is supported so fuckign heavy since 1 Years and even the Heartstone Viewers are on the same Level as the Sc2 ones? Where is that Game Dead anywhere? I don't get this People who are just bashing most of the Time. If you don't like Sc2 don't watch it and play BW or just watch GSL/ SSL and fap on Koreans ffs.

I think both are true, which makes it a rather self-defeating cycle. He isn't doing well because he lost interest in the game, and he lost some interest because he isn't doing well.

With the changes to the WCS region locking and the lack of global events that allow Koreans, Jaedong needed a big change in lifestyle for him to compete and get exposure in Korea. His old lifestyle was decent for competing in the global events that he can no longer do, but it seems he has no interest in joining any Korean teams. There isn't much he can do with SC2 right now given his circumstances.

Maybe he should attend Homestory Cup and go off with a bang as a gift for his fans. Even if he bombs out, it would be cool to see his shining personality interact with the foreign community one last time.

SC2 is a different game requiring a different skillset. There was no reason to expect every great BW player to be great at SC2 and there was no reason to expect everyone who enjoyed BW to enjoy SC2. These two errors were huge reasons why the actions of Blizzard in Korea could only be seen as belligerent and counter-productive.

Jaedong was already past his prime when professional BW came to an end. It would be naive to suggest that going back to BW is something that he would do primarily to be on top again. And while it is well known that players have dropped off in the past as a result of losing passion, no matter what game they were playing, that doesn't really explain why a player would quit a game he has played professionally for four years to return to a game he played professionally for seven years. Indeed, there's no reason to think he ever stopped playing BW to begin with.

Exactly this. They were "forced" to switch because Blizzard and Kespa probably thought the games were similar because both have "Starcraft" in their names, but the fanbase in korea (I live in korea and asked multiple people about this too) and here quickly realized that it was not the case, those games were different and it just didn't make much sense to force pros to play a different game. It was no different than suddenly making cs:go players switch to something like tf2 just because both games are shooters.

Doesn't mean that one or the other is bad, just different, so it felt very natural for me to get bored of sc2 very quickly at the time even though I was extremely excited for it. I felt sad and disappointed but I just realized that I should keep playing sc1 because it was the game I enjoyed and there was no reason for me to feel sad since I could just keep playing it, and I feel it's the same for the pros now like flash and jaedong.

You know.... I was going somewhere with this, but it's sadly useless to argue it anymore so I'll just stop Ultimately I may just need to follow Jaedong back to the best game ever made.

All these Broodwar Nutters foaming at the mouth at the idea of Jaedong playing BW. I would be all for it if I saw any future in it. Unless BW is now bigger than sc2 somehow. Not to mention he hasn't been playing that game. You can't just go back to different RTS with different hotkeys like nothing happened.

If he's lost interest for good, I hope he finds the right path in the next chapter of his life.

Flash went back and pretty damn quickly got to the top beating some of the best players left. I imagine JD could do the same.

If the amounts of money you can make from streaming BW on Afreeca mentioned are true, and I don't doubt they are, I think an old familiar name like JD could be living off it and getting some savings for the time it lasts. Quite decent sums and probably much more than he can get from EG and Korean tournaments right now since he hasn't been at the top level for a long time.

I'm all for it since the other option looks more and more to be quiet retirement. It would be foolish to dream of BW becoming a big esport even in Korea again let alone anywhere else but as long as there is an interested audience that likes to reminisce, give them what they want.

I don't think money can be a reason for JD to be active in BW again (although they don't hurt). Most likely is to enjoy the game, and I never saw JD enjoying SC2 (except maybe when he defeated Naniwa). Fact is, if he joined a clan and started blasting protosses, there is still a spark there.
I'm still watching the PDP POP game 5 against Snow regularly (the one with cracklings letting Nexus with 5 hp and 2 defiler defense against protoss Snow-ball) and I bet he can regain the pleasure of the game one more time.

Whatever makes JD happy makes me happy. He seemed pretty depressed in SC2. I'm gonna cheer for him regardless of what he's gonna play.

I don't think JD seemed particularly depressed in SC2 but he just dropped to a lower level and took lots of time off eventually to retire. If you watch the State of Play doc, he says nothing about passion or love towards BW either. Instead (and I think this is rather inspiring) there is the quote about not really playing for fun but mostly for work. I imagine he still has some love for what he's been doing successfully for so long but I wouldn't project your own attitudes into him like you seem to be doing here.

I think this thread ran its course on the SC2 forums. Moving to the BW forums now where it should have been posted.

Does anyone have VODs of JD right now, or are they super hard to find because:
1. nobody casts them
2. not sure what his ID is?

there is already a huge list to the side of the TL Bar of brood war streamers, and adding Jaedong to it if he decides to stream is something I won't contest at all if it makes him happier.

If that was directed at me... I must say I'm... disappointed. I thought you're reasonable from what I've seen you post before and how you conducted yourself during the NSL BW casts.

It was at TRaFFiC's post. I won't even quote it because just having it once is irritating enough lol. I was just generalizing for the sake of being general.

@The_Red_Viper, that last sentence was designed to give you an additional chucckle.

edit: Just read back through your posts and they are completely reasonable lol. You're doing just fine nighcol ! And thanks for listening to my casts :D

No problem for me that JD is going back to BW. But my problem is using it as a excuse of random forum users to force their opinion to others...

Which new generation of players are you talking about? There's no top new players, even Life is gone. I think we shuold face the fact that sc2 is past its prime for 2 years now. There won't be a new swell of new top players.

I think the really pathetic thing about this website, and the community, is that you cant actually criticize anyones faviroute game without temp bans or warnings. It leads to this kind of silly neurosis where everyone feels the need to jump and defend their game, as if it was their own mother, because its so taboo.

SC2 sucks and it will be dead soon and im happy for it. I'm not happy a game you like is going to die. Yet somehow this statement alone might get me banned for weeks.

It is not about defending our game or your game. It is about ppl who acts exacly like you. Instead of being happy that JD might stream BW you are forcing your opinion about the game to other people in very bad mannered way.

"criticize" means noting the less than functional parts of the game. For example deathball syndrome in HotS and worker kill syndrome in LotV. You can point out flaws and even better, say what would fix them. If you want, blame Blizzard which TL allows.

What criticize isn't, is the slander you're saying with statements like "SC2 sucks" "it will be dead soon". That's slander, trash spouting, and bigotry. And definitely not criticism.

Of course it's criticism, it just isn't very constructive. But people are well past being constructive when it comes to criticizing blizzard and their direction and decisions for starcraft 2. There's been countless of detailed threads on the overt and less overt issues. However they decided to take their game in a different direction and I think it was for the worse.

This is why brood war is still actively being played 20 years after its release and regularly has more stream viewers than Sc2. I doubt that in 20 years Sc2 will have even remotely the same amount of support as as brood war currently receives.

Anyway, why are you here? You're just wasting your time trying to defend sc2 here. If you enjoy Sc2, go play Sc2. We'll continue enjoying brood war.

It is the purview of all human beings to take an special interest in something and to look down on others who do not share that interest. For some nasty reason people are inclined to look down on others, and when that exclusion becomes meta, it is twice as repulsive. I pity you, and I pity myself, for I am thrice as meta to look down on you. We are all cursed.

It's way more that sharing an interest or not sharing and interest. BW vs SC2 isn't anything like TF2 vs Overwatch.

ie the kespa forced switch, that SC2 was also made by Blizzard and had a lot of chance to do something better, how they ignored the arguments made by the pros etc etc.

I mean surely if they had made SC2 more similarly to the way DotA2 and CSGO was made (ie using a successful, working model as a baseline and respecting it) we would've been a lot more welcoming.

Wow just found this thread. Really unfortunate to hear that about Jaedong.
Hope he manages to do what's best for him, and I am sad that forced transition failed to capture the interest of all the big names.
Seems we are seeing obvious drawbacks of being a progamer.

I'm one of the fans most bitter about that transition and how it affected the lives of the people who worked in that industry and how it affected a source of entertainment that was very valuable to me. But that's hate against the politics around the situation and the total lack of compassion from the people who made those decisions. That doesn't actually translate into a judgement on the quality of SC2, which in the abstract I don't like but don't care if other people like it. The game itself is just a game. Discussion of whether or not SC2 is good is kind of besides the point, but we thrive on it because we wanna say look how dumb this decision that affected me negatively was. Look how so many pros hate it. Look how poorly the ends justified the means. Except BW was also very harsh, and lots of pros turned away from it eventually, or there were shitty coaches and companies taking advantage of these kids, and even successful pros would say sometimes they're not having fun anymore. It's all very convenient when you pick and choose what to bring up, but it buries the few legitimate things BW fans have to be pissed off about under a lot of stuff which is very easily waved off as pointless complaints.

TLDR people weren't talking about the kespa switch, they were talking about the quality of the games. Which is utterly the special interest case.

I love your last paragraph. You are my new favorite person.

Brood War is dead.

4 years later, here we are again haha. I honestly don't see SC2 doing that when it dies a horrible death in 2 years.

As someone who didn't get to enjoy BW fully due to lack of access to internet until before SC2 release and currently enjoying SC2 I feel like a public enemy here. Talk about elitism...

As for Jaedong, best of luck to him in whatever direction he chooses. It'd be nice to hop on his BW stream if he decides to go into it.

I wonder why people are still stuck in the Broodwar era. Is it because of the good old times ~10 years ago that were full of hype for the game?

What is the reason in playing an outdated game that is inferior to it's evolution? Flash, Jaedong and other popular Korean BW streames must be.. lost. Now that their pro gaming careers are over they don't know what to do, so they go back to what they know best and where they feel most comfortable.

Don't worry dude I got you covered:
-But don't you know that BW graphics are old?
-Why don't people hop to the newer, ergo better game?
-BW people are elitist
-BW people are suffering from nostalgia
-Pros returning to BW just are too bad for the competition in SC2
-Broodwar is old and dead guys, why don't you play SC2?
-SC2 is more strategical compared to BW, which is all mechanics with no MBS. It's a strategy game in the end. Also look at the LOL people being so inferior with regards to mechanics/apm, haha noobs. Did I forget to mention that BW people are elitist?
-It's not that Blizzard tried to kill BW and forced Kespa to switch to SC2 in order to promote SC2. It would have been inevitable since SC2 is the newer game.
-BW streams getting 10 times more viewers than SC2? Oh it must be that all of the BW progamer streamers are using viewbots. In reality, Wintergaming has more actual viewers than Flash.

I wouldn't call it being 'stuck', I perfectly understand that people can prefer Brood War over StarCraft II for myriad of reasons, it can be anything from nostalgia to differences in mechanics between the two. I just don't get why it's so cool in being overly protective of something you like by throwing shit at the other thing.

I guess I can't into internet or I'm just oblivious to how fake of StarCraft fan I am.

And your last sentence surely has truth to it, it's no longer a job to them so they do whatever they feel comfortable in. And it's great. They can feel comfortable there for many reasons too. I'd even dare to think that it's possible that some of them (I don't really know old guard that well) are in it for money from streaming, didn't decide what to do with themselves since KeSPA switched to SC2 etc.

Quickly browsing through your post history I believe you. You are the impersonation of true StarCraft (no SC2).

I'm surprised you were able to run SC2 though, is it playable in 640x480?

PS. I don't hate Brood War.

Can everyone stfu already about SC2 vs BW? The whole thread was moved here to focus the discussion on Jaedong and possible stream and Afreeca not on the retarded SC2 vs BW.

You like SC2? Fine go play SC2.

You like BW? Fine go BW.

JUST STFU ALREADY!

I too prefer the prequel trilogy Star Wars to the original trilogy Star Wars. They added super cool characters like Jar-Jar and Anakin. Also the special effects are much better. I wonder why people are so nostalgic about the original trilogy while you have to suffer from the outdated special effects.

Oh btw I never watched the original trilogy till the end, just the first 10 minutes. It already convinced me that you old geezers are just suffering from nostalgia. Go with the future old men!

I must admit that I only really started watching BW when HotS was in beta. WoL was an okay game and I enjoyed watching it most of the time. But with SC2 its a few good matches in a sea of shitty ones. With BW its good games all the times. When I watch commentary of BW pro matches every single match is just great fun. I dont have that same feeling when watching SC2. And I really tried to like SC2 back then.

I can bet all my money you havent played brood war enough to make any comments.

I have enough Brood war experience. I once played the BW campaign mod for SC2!

Quickly browsing through your post history I believe you. You are the impersonation of true StarCraft (no SC2).

I'm surprised you were able to run SC2 though, is it playable in 640x480?

PS. I don't hate Brood War.

you don't seem to have much of an opinion of BW either, would you be interested in trying out the game when shieldbattery goes public, if nothing else it would be an interesting experience.

Oh you. Perhaps there are a number of people who realize BW being more enjoyable to them seeing as a good number had the pleasure of experiencing both.

It's not like a few pro's spoke candidly about preferring the original to the sequel.

I should be one of the poster children for the BW vs SC2 argument. I played Sc2 first, never even touched brood war besides maybe 5 games with my brother when I was 8-10 years old (all he did was make bunkers, tech to battlecruisers and beat my stupid ass lmao).

I'm now 23 years old and even though I was an enormous fan of wc3 the frozen throne, which was literally my childhood, playing it almost every single day for hours on end, I can't help but admit that brood war is the better designed game.

I graduated from high school and during the summer of 2010, Sc2 was released. I had been looking forward to this game for maybe two years, ever since I read about its development in a local gaming magazine. I was still fervently playing wc3 back then, but my competitive spark was slowly dying out. I partially attribute it to the new meta developments in wc3 with night elf making only druids of the talon and human constantly doing tower rushes with sorceres (I was an orc player).

During the summer before college, I started massively playing Sc2. I got to diamond in a matter of a week (which was the highest rank at the time, masters and grandmasters didn't even exist as far as I recall). The game was quite fun although it did suffer from some obvious balancing issues (mass reapers, 70 damage tanks on lost temple,...) at the time. After playing for 2 months however, I was getting insanely frustrated with the state of the game and with certain aspects of the game. I disliked forcefields and warp-ins and I intensely hated colossi. I also stopped watching professional Sc2 as I found them to bore me because almost all games followed the same pattern. One big army clashing with another. The only good match up was ZvT, which was still exciting. Then someone introduced me to professional brood war. I started watching some vods and I was hooked.

When I enrolled in college, I tried brood war, but I couldn't host any games. I knew that I also wouldn't be able to host games for wc3 so I switched to a MOBA called heroes of newerth (I didn't want to play wc3 on a cheap laptop anyway). I played this game for about 3-4 years until the workload became too much in the form of papers and eventually my thesis.

Then august last year after my graduation, I picked up brood war again. I must admit that it was a huge struggle to STICK with the game. There were crashes, different launchers, not being able to host any games, a complete dearth of games on iccup, lots of hassles with trying to play on Fish and so on... Eventually I figured out to host, which has made my life A LOT easier.

What about the game itself? At first there were definitely some huge frustrations, it took me quite a lot of games until I could at least get a 50% win rate at the D/D+ level. I lost to a lot of protoss shenanigans, I lost a lot to the inexorable terran powertrain that are marine/medic/tanks. But as I started to get at least familiar with how the game flows and got a feel for the way units behave, I started falling in love with it. Brood war is the MOST intense game I've ever played, it's got INSANELY cool fights and units and I honestly even ADORE the graphics (Sure they could be of higher quality, but I like the dark atmosphere and the eerie units and voices, honestly I still get scared by the zealot attack sound haha).
And one of the best things about this game is that it's probably the best balanced game out there.

how is BW the inferior game?

you say it with such conviction, please prove to us how its inferior, show us the light!

BW is only inferior graphically, it's 10X better designed unit interactions no doubt about that. I personally don't believe the meta had great variety like alot of SC2 people constantly whine about (waah mech and bio not equally viable/why can't I go roach/Hydra vs Terran/why do I have to open Stargate?) and the maps were always the same but the unit interaction is leagues ahead of SC2.

The main topic is about Jaedong switching between two games, only in the narrowest, least interesting, most authoritarian, most autistic sense, is a discussion about said video games, Jaedongs suitability for each and why, etc, off topic. Apparently outside of non-reply's following the pattern of "Oh, Jaedong may return to Broodwar, hooray" everything is off topic. In which case, this thread should be closed and stickied, because any discussion is a discussion thats off topic.

There's a difference in discussing both of them and being a prick while being elitist about either sc2 or bw.

So condemn people for their immaturity and emotionality; not for being offtopic, and certianly, dont respond to immaturity with silly image macro's.

BW graphics is the best for a strategy game. You can distiguish every unit from each other and the spellcaster effects do not overlap so much that you can actually see what is going on. I dont need flashy laser beams and massive explosions that lead to confusion on whether your unit is actually dead or still fighting...

I know this is really based on each person's opinion but me too, among blizzard games, I really really love the starcraft 1 and diablo 1 art direction. Everything feels so dark, atmospheric, raw, creepy, colorful, easy to distinguish and very interesting. Starting with wc3, it's been more cartoonish, and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing since cartoonish graphics can be easier to follow than realistic ones. I feel like sc2 is cartoonish and shiny, I don't mind the cartoonish part but I really dislike the shiny feeling, but it's just graphics, I mean, it doesn't make or break the game but I would say that it certainly helps make it less memorable in my opinion.

Is it not directly related?

Then, maybe you mean the "quality" of graphics, like 3D vs 2D, high resolution textures, etc...?

The art style of brood war is MILES better than that of Sc2. It isn't even up for discussion in my opinion. If brood war would get high definition sprites, I think I'd ascend into ecstasy.

This SC2 vs BW argument is getting really old.

First, you couldn't have had SC2 without Brood War. SC2 was created thanks to Brood War's success.

Second, both games are strategical but offer different challenges sometimes. SC2 made some things easier than Brood War's ones such as mechanics, but it also made outmacroing your opponent harder, for example. Different tools for different jobs, really.

Finally, to each his own. There are people who like SC2 and people who like BW. Let's play what we find fun. I play SC2, but I played BW before that. Both are fun in their own way.

It's like sports really. Some people prefer football, others prefer basketball, etc.

I dont think theres much difference in the casual level, but in hardcore or progaming/esports BW gives a higher quality of competitive play.
