Jaedong was already past his prime when professional BW came to an end. It would be naive to suggest that going back to BW is something that he would do primarily to be on top again. And while it is well known that players have dropped off in the past as a result of losing passion, no matter what game they were playing, that doesn't really explain why a player would quit a game he has played professionally for four years to return to a game he played professionally for seven years. Indeed, there's no reason to think he ever stopped playing BW to begin with.

There was no reason to expect every great BW player to be great at SC2 and there was no reason to expect everyone who enjoyed BW to enjoy SC2. These two errors were huge reasons why the actions of Blizzard in Korea could only be seen as belligerent and counter-productive. Indeed, there's no reason to think he ever stopped playing BW to begin with. Exactly this. They were "forced" to switch because Blizzard and Kespa probably thought the games were similar because both have "Starcraft" in their names, but the fanbase in korea (I live in korea and asked multiple people about this too) and here quickly realized that it was not the case, those games were different and it just didn't make much sense to force pros to play a different game. It was no different than suddenly making cs:go players switch to something like tf2 just because both games are shooters. Doesn't mean that one or the other is bad, just different, so it felt very natural for me to get bored of sc2 very quickly at the time even though I was extremely excited for it. I felt sad and disappointed but I just realized that I should keep playing sc1 because it was the game I enjoyed and there was no reason for me to feel sad since I could just keep playing it, and I feel it's the same for the pros now like flash and jaedong.

People think bw is similar to sc2 just because of the name, if you've played both games you would know that they are entirely different, like, not even close. Cs:go and 1.6 are similar enough so that successful players from one game can easily translate their skills to the other one. Hell, even the maps are basically the same. You know.... I was going somewhere with this, but it's sadly useless to argue it anymore so I'll just stop Ultimately I may just need to follow Jaedong back to the best game ever made.

Unless BW is now bigger than sc2 somehow. Not to mention he hasn't been playing that game. You can't just go back to different RTS with different hotkeys like nothing happened. If he's lost interest for good, I hope he finds the right path in the next chapter of his life. Flash went back and pretty damn quickly got to the top beating some of the best players left. I imagine JD could do the same. Plus balloons.

I'm all for it since the other option looks more and more to be quiet retirement. It would be foolish to dream of BW becoming a big esport even in Korea again let alone anywhere else but as long as there is an interested audience that likes to reminisce, give them what they want.

I'm still watching the PDP POP game 5 against Snow regularly (the one with cracklings letting Nexus with 5 hp and 2 defiler defense against protoss Snow-ball) and I bet he can regain the pleasure of the game one more time.
