What happened to battle.sc server plan? They said they were working on match making and getting that running.

Automated matchmaking would be great! The issue would be getting momentum going for your server, people obviously won't play on a server without players. You would need to advertise your server for it to become successful.

Heres what I don't understand though, why can't iCCup just add all the types of things that they don't have like auto match making ect.? It would be a lot easier to just add on to iccup rather than make a whole different server...... I guess it's because iCCup people are stubborn?

More like there's no reason for them to ever do such a thing. As I understand it, coders are in short supply, and the BW population is miniscule in comparison to their other games.

Please tailor it to the English language. Meaning, proper spelling and grammar. That's something that has always pissed me off about ICCup. I know it's small.

But it matters to me <3.

Automated MM would be a godsend. Please oh please. And let it be MU specific, too.

I just wanna play Starcraft. If a new server accomplishes that better, then yea I'll play that. (As much as iCCup sort of defined an entire era in foreign BW, some of the shit going on with it now is so petty and puerile it gets frustrating to even read about.)

The only way I see this ever getting of the ground is if teamliquid fully supported the server and would advertize it to the other two bigger communities. Proper marketing of the automated match-making system, a good lunch event, SC2 celebrities playing BW for fun on the new server for the launch event and proper marketing inside and outside of the community (Would it be so hard to get personalities like Day9 and Husky to do a little bit of promotion for a game that they used to be heavily invested in?)

Marketing to the casual side of the community and people who don't currently play BW or haven't played BW in some time is in reality the only way to make this work (with the backing of TL).

If the server was branded as the ''TL server'' and if it were properly advertized within the community. It could possibly gather a big enough player-base.

TL would never sponsor or fully support a server like that. The site is too deeply involved with Blizzard and SC2 to risk alienating the average SC2 users and contacts with the SC2 team at Blizzard. Same goes for Day[9] and other personalities and pros.

Nah. There's a decent chance of the next TLS qualifiers being hosted on it. After all, it's less work than running a custom server just for the qualifiers, and more accessible than fish. That gives an initial seed of people.

Add an anti-hack launcher and a rating system, do them well, and people will be slowly drawn to the server. Might take some patience, but as long as iCCup continues to shoot itself in the foot, there will be people willing to try an alternative.

I think this would go a long way towards populating the server. A BW-server managed by TL would be the dream, but a BW-server endorsed by TL would be almost as good (and more realistic). I also believe this would make BW a lot more approachable to new players.
Currently, if someone new to the BW scene comes to TL and asks how to get started, they get an answer similar to this;
  1. Update BW to latest patch
  2. Install iccup-/w-/mini-launcher
  3. Download the correct map pack from the server you want to play on
  4. port forward
  5. If using Windows Vista/7/8, download colorfix
  6. Register an account on iccup/fish
  7. Double-check that your anti-hack and lan-latency work

If it's possible to remove a few items from that list, or to have them available in the same place, that would go a long way towards making BW easier to pick up. For example: imagine if you could log in with your (already created) teamliquid account? Or if you don't have to port forward?

Note that I'm not saying that teamliquid has to be in charge of running the proposed server, but if there's gonna be a new server, communication and cooperation with big BW communities such as TL and Defiler will be key. The closer fan communities and tournament organizers cooperate with the server admins, the better.
