It is nice because you can affect who wins even when you're just an observer, example: Korean player is about to drop reavers on bulgarian player's hydra defended expo - I change to extra high immediately, shuttle is eliminated without trouble.

If I'm engaged in an F10-O-N war with someone, I usually make him tell me what latency does. Of course they usually don't answer and just reset it to extra high, so I change it back to low again. Eventually it gets to a point where he becomes so insistent that it should be on Extra High that he changes it over and over and over again in a row. That's when I just attack since he's more focused on changing the latency than his base =)

The latency determines the time between a command being issued and executed. Low latency = 10 time ticks delay High latency = 15 time ticks Extra high = 20 time ticks

there should be some auto-latency and limits set before the game starts.. players shouldnt have to or be able to fuck with it while they're playing a competitive game with someone who is willing to fuck with latency for an advantage

If a broadband server has a lot of people on it, you will still experience lag. I had a ping of 451, once. That wasn't from a bot telling me, either. (I checked in UT2k3)

High Latency and Extra High Latency, put simply, work by trying to force the players in the game to play slower and send less actions, by putting in a delay time between when an action is issued and when that action is put into effect. It has NO PURPOSE. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER EVER EVER use ANYTHING but Low Latency. As far as when people get into those Latency Setting wars with me... I love it when that happens. Because I know they're probably wasting more time than I am setting the latency over and over again (I do it at blinding speed). F10 O N L Enter ![]()
