DragonMaster99 set latency to Extra High
SelfProclaimedGosu set latency to Low
DragonMaster99 set latency to Extra High
SelfProclaimedGosu: ...
SelfProclaimedGosu: you don't even know what latecy does you fuck!
SelfProclaimedGosu set latency to Low
So, what _ARE_ the differences? Is it written down by blizzard anywhere? What are the actual technical differences?
Thanks.

im dissapointed in you </3

isn't it supposed to be that it takes less bits of information per second, so reaction time is slower, but runs smoother?
anyway isn't it obvious why your opponent doesn't want extra high?
|
I think higher means you send bigger packets less frequently. Low latency means your sending packets of information much much quicker if I'm not mistaken ;o. Maybe I am, silly me!
|
Extra high makes micro very very choppy and bad. You would never play someone on extra high, at least a korean they would leave before that.
|
Basically you can't micro worth shit with extra high. It sends less info so reactions are slower. If it's lagging terribly start moving up slowely and try to take it down when lag goes away.
|
That's strange.. I never noticed a difference between them.. maybe I'll try it sometime..
BTW.. I made that conversation up obviously guys.. heh..

I think:
Low: 4 High: 6 Extra High: 8

the higher the latency, the longer the unit response time.

maybe you haven't noticed though because you've only had it high early game, where you're just buildin workers

I never noticed a differnce when I played bgh and what not. Now I try to do stuff like muta harrass and micro my mutas like I do in a 1v1 on bghs with friends and I'll lose half my mutas to marines and I"ll just look dumb founded for a minute untill I change then latency to low and bitch at everyone for wanting it on extra high.
|
If it lags, usually it gets put on xtra-high, thus reducing lag but hurting overall micro and unit reaction time. Always keep it on low if you can.
|
i was one of those ppl... set it to extra high every game in the very beginning, feeling kinda cool when everyone in a 4v4 game set it to ehl. made me feel down with the crowd....i miss that feeling

Ever consider reading the Network Options screen where you set the latency options?

It is ping time. I don't want to get all technical and confuse the people who don't get this, so I'll make it easy. You know when you log onto battle.net and you see the green, yellow, or red lag bars next to peoples names? Well to put it in simple mans terms, in actual game: low latency = green, high latency = yellow, and extra high latency = red.
So what people are saying above me are right, you can't micro as well because the unit responds like 2 seconds later than if it was on low latency.

Extra High Latency is impossible to micro in. It's better to keep it in Low Lat and have the game run a little less smoothly... High Lat if it gets really bad, but I strongly recommend never running Extra High Lat.
5 4 3 2 1 Game begins EvilTeletubby: gl hf NewbiePub has set the network to extra high latency. NewbiePub: gl EvilTeletubby has set the network to low latency. NewbiePub has left the game.

Thanks guys

coming from the guy who went to korea, just for sc

put in very simple terms
low latency sends out very very small packets of information very frequently. hence it will be a tad laggier because the server will be looking for the information almost instantly, and if it doesnt come, it will pause and wait for the info to come
extra high latency is similar to the shock memory on a CD player. It operates a few seconds behind so that, if any information lags behind slightly, it has about a second or two to catch up. This poses a problem because essentially, no matter what, your micro, macro, and etcetera will always be a second or so behind in any game. Which basically means you will always lose zerglings to storm in extra high latency.
low latency is nice because the server will wait for all your commands, at the cost of the lag box coming.
gogo low latency

Low latency = good
extra high latency = bad
high latency will make Day appear on your doorstep. He will be just as bewildered as you are, so give him a cup of coffee. If Day says something rude, smack him one, as it is an error and can be fixed in this manner. If your Day needs feeding press the Blue button. If your Day needs discipline, hit the Red button. If your Day dies, you will be held accountable and charged with manslaughter.
