^ That is one of many possible applications of a Go Board such as the one pictured here:
However, the uses for a Go Board that I am interested in involve playing go and looking aesthetically pleasing (not that lesbians can't do this; don't get me wrong). Pellucidity and I played a couple of games of go on kgs http://www.gokgs.com in response to the Go thread.
Pellucidity mentioned that he was interested in a Go Board, but that the good ones were hella' expensive. We started researching online about different go boards, and I felt like writing about it a bit.
Go boards come in several varieties:
1) Travel sets (basically toys)
2) Flat boards (meant for use on a table)
3) Floor boards (best; meant for positioning on the floor; usually has legs; taller=better)
Prices: In a quick summary, I'll say that the first category, travel/portable sets, go for up to ~100 dollars. The second category, table boards, start at ~100 and go up to several hundred. The third category, floor boards, start at several hundred, and go up in price rapidly depending on the quality of the board. A well made, kaya board, will probably run you a few thousand dollars!
After browsing a few sites, Pellucidity and I decided we both really liked the following item:
"[04:18] <Pellucidity> wow that board looks amazing [04:29] <Pellucidity> Yes it's gorgeous! [04:32] <Pellucidity> The carvings are so pretty [04:46] <Pellucidity> yes it's gorgeous [04:35] <Pellucidity> Pfff cars, I don't intend on buying a car, ever "
It's made of bamboo which is not the traditional wood for go boards though. I'm not sure how much less desirable that should make the item. It goes for Price: $975.00 Now $495.00 plus ~$55 shipping. Compare that to the more basic item shown below that costs 184 dollars:
I'm seriously considering buying a Goban! 碁盤
+ Show Spoiler +The title of this thread was suggested by Pellucidity when I mentioned we should think of a way to draw TL readers into this blog!

aaa Go. Do you already know how to play, or are you just learning? I tried learning it once, but when there wasn't anyone that would play, I decided to not attempt playing myself.
I have a board and pieces actually and they are pretty ancient looking. The picture of 2 would look similar to mine if you were to throw it against a brick wall 40 or 50 times.
Just buy a cheapish one and if you really love it, buy the sexy one.
