I also have 8 mm japanese double convex glass stones, not so bad, but the single convex is definetly my preference.

Personally, I think go is a very hard game to play.

When i try to play with my nooby friends, we also end up arranging our pieces in a line. The pros usually set their pieces on more strategically.

I have a freind who plays Go rather competitively in Hong Kong. We always play Chinese chess and "linking to five" chess (dont really know how you call it)

It's lame attracting people this way. I didn't buy it, but I wanted to see what were you going to talk about.

If the title involved "Go", I'd check it out anyway...

As for the topic, that table looks helluva nice. If you have the money to spend, and the will to play Go so much that it's beneficial to buy that table, go for it.

Go is a fucking awesome game. The reason why the legs are usually short is because, as you probably know, most people played it sitting on the floor.

I loved the Go board in Hero (Jet Li), the one that was huge and stone and had to be played with one of those sticks that looked like shuffleboard sticks.
Peace~

I just had a brilliant idea. Buy a good looking table at a garage sale for next to nothing, then draw the go lines in it. It'll look good, it'll have your own craftsman's touch adding character and uniqueness to it, and you won't pay a fortune for a piece of shit like some tool.

Well you wanted porn... and you wood, which is the male counterpart, which is your preference, so no need to complain.

Doesn't seem that way since people love to complain when they feel they were wronged about their immature desires that they are obviously entitled to.

Lol I think what he did wasn't that big of a deal, but it does seem to be successful. If I go find some pictures of lesbians, will people send me small amounts of money to contribute towards the purchase of a go board?

Definitely play online for practice... it's been a positive experience for me... and it keeps track of your rating :3

aaa Go. Do you already know how to play, or are you just learning? I tried learning it once, but when there wasn't anyone that would play, I decided to not attempt playing myself.

I have a board and pieces actually and they are pretty ancient looking. The picture of 2 would look similar to mine if you were to throw it against a brick wall 40 or 50 times.

Just buy a cheapish one and if you really love it, buy the sexy one.

As I said before, it's very easy to learn and practice online. I'm 20Kyu and I've never held a go stone. I'm considering buying a cheapie just for now yeah... good suggestion.

The shock value from realizing what this is about is far more worthwhile of happiness and laughter than pictures of lesbians... and go is awesome.

but you still suck

When a guy does free contract work for your company designing spreadsheets to do data analysis, don't expect him to provide you with pictures of lesbians having sex on a table. Didn't your mother ever teach you that?

Yeah after a bit of playing you figure out how to beat 30kyu newbies :p

When I played pellucidity the first time I felt so strong because I had so much control over the board, even though I still am pretty new to the game myself. Maybe the fact that I won by over 150 moku had to do with it though :p

What's the difference between those two types of stones? Is glass particularly inferior to real stones? BTW, how much less nice is a thin board like the one you have versus a full sized floor board?

I think they mention that game 'connect 5?' in the first episode of Hikaru no Go. Yeah it's been interesting seeing how my piece placement evolves as I learn to play less simplistically. This is partly just from observing other players (real and anime characters :p) and also from trying things out or reading about it.

How can you complain about a thread being misleading and then admit that you like wood. But seriously, I am trying to find out how much of a letdown it is for a board to be made out of bamboo, or if it is okay.

If by lame you mean hilarious, then I agree with you 100%. You weren't supposed to buy it, so you win! I wish you could have enjoyed the experience a bit, but eh enough people have that it's no big deal if you don't. I agree the board looks very nice. Is it worth spending so much on though? I mean, it might be worth that much just for aesthetic reasons, even if you don't play on it much!

Not sure why you needed 4 posts lol. I'm 20kyu on KGS after playing maybe half a dozen to a dozen rated games, so I think I'll improve quickly if I keep at it. How much I'm willing to pay is very flexible which is why this is a tricky decision for me. Thanks for linking to the go board; what do you think of a go board with draws? Do you like it as compared to the categories in the OP?

What kind of table? I did see instructions online for making your own go equipment, so I know it is done to some extent. I also think the high prices of go boards is a deterrent, but not a rip off per say.
