i've been reading votefortheworst for 3 seasons now and i think they kinda suck. they have to be overly negative and inconsistent just to save the site. i still read it cuz they are a good source of idol news and tidbits. i don't think their vote matters much once there are fewer contestants. it'd be nice if they asked all their users to report how many times they voted so they can publish it but i think the numbers wouldn't look very good for them.
kris allen was definitely the more mainstream choice. while adam was the favorite in terms of total votes during the season and judges' opinions, kris's style (both sound and appearance) currently have a much wider appeal. i'd also wager that kris had more insane fans (young girls) who would vote as many times as possible during that 4 hour period, while adam appealed to more mature people who don't tend to vote multiple times. so perhaps adam had more people voting for him but still lost. anyway, adam's voice in the range where he sang mad world is amazing. i wasnt a huge fan of his screams but they can be fun and they add energy and contrast. oh well, he didn't need to win. we'll be hearing his album soon im sure
i dont think votefortheworst affects the votes at all, though i'm sure they'd like to think they do. the writers go over the top at bashing the contestants, but it's a nice change of view compared to other places that talk about AI, it's usually always "omg so good!" and it gets annoying.
I think it's hilarious that Kris won, albeit unexpected. Probably better for Adam, so he isn't stuck in American Idols teeth and can do what he wants. Gets to stay away from that terrible song they made for this years winner.
I really don't think VFTW has a significant impact as well, but they seem to think they do lol. I honestly expected Adam to win by a huge margin, but Nony's theory is probably correct.

Mad World sounds high, but it really isn't, the climax of the song is still just a C6 (male high C), which isn't that high. IMO the defining feature of why Mad World was so good, was how he could control his voice so well LIVE, being sensitive and warm in the beginning, using really tough breathing patterns and controlling the edge on his voice midway, and then going into the really strong and piercing note towards the end.
But I definitely agree, he's the most talented - almost too talented for his own good. I think people almost dont want to vote for him because his vocal technique is so refined that it's hard to relate to him as a person lol.
Adam in American Idol is like Mariah Carey & her band attending an amateur singing contest. It's just domination in every way. From what I read, there are people who see and hear Adam, the show peak interest with people who normally wouldn't watch it. He brings in a older crowd. Like me. Almost each of Adam's performance is like its own concert, not a talent contest. His music is aimed at more mature audience. Even though I thought it was an outrage Adam didn't win, he seriously didn't care about winning at all. You can see it in the expression of his face when Kris was announced the winner as well as the post interviews. American Idol is just his tool to get famous and he has accomplished that.

and watching dudes playing videogames is obviously cooler than watching a singing competition?
I din't say anything about being "cool". o_O Obviously if you come up with such an argument then you must think yourself that it's not cool to watch american idol haha.

C6 isn't high? LOL WUT
I agree with everything else you said though
Hahaha, well sorry, I meant in the context of his range, it's not that high. I swear he goes a lot, lot higher in other songs, so a single C6 in that song was probably just cakewalk for him. Also, I think in general most tenors can hit C6 after some warming up..... hell i can do it too, and I'm not talking about just using head voice either.

Ah, thought you meant in general, considering C4- A5~C6 is soprano range :-p

The live performance was then substantially different to the recording? Because what I heard doesn't bear any resemblance to something like this: + Show Spoiler +

I don't pretend to know much about the specfics of singing technique, but I do know that many of the greatest tenors ever (Domingo, Pertile and Vickers come to mind first) certainly had inconsistent/strangled/non-existant high Cs in the context of actual performances.
