Damn, I hear its effing close though (http://www.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/predictions.asp). I think people pick Kris just cos he's the underdog, and I guess girls figure that he's hotter cos he's not gay.

Then there's the fact that he is a physically unattractive male who wears tons of make up til he resembles a butch lesbian. I hate that guy. It doesn't really matter in the end because every american idol contestant is creatively bankrupt and ends up sounding the same when some producer handles every aspect of their album and all they do is show up to recordings. With the exception of Kelly Clarkson or whoever makes their own music and has managed to make a real career for themselves. I watched up to the first songs from each guy last night and simon was like "its all too rocky horror" and black judge was yelling "ITS TWILIGHT DAWG" I wanted to shoot myself in the face

+ Show Spoiler + kris allen was definitely the more mainstream choice. while adam was the favorite in terms of total votes during the season and judges' opinions, kris's style (both sound and appearance) currently have a much wider appeal. i'd also wager that kris had more insane fans (young girls) who would vote as many times as possible during that 4 hour period, while adam appealed to more mature people who don't tend to vote multiple times. so perhaps adam had more people voting for him but still lost. anyway, adam's voice in the range where he sang mad world is amazing. i wasnt a huge fan of his screams but they can be fun and they add energy and contrast. oh well, he didn't need to win. we'll be hearing his album soon im sure

+ Show Spoiler + I think it's hilarious that Kris won, albeit unexpected. Probably better for Adam, so he isn't stuck in American Idols teeth and can do what he wants. Gets to stay away from that terrible song they made for this years winner.

IMO the defining feature of why Mad World was so good, was how he could control his voice so well LIVE, being sensitive and warm in the beginning, using really tough breathing patterns and controlling the edge on his voice midway, and then going into the really strong and piercing note towards the end. But I definitely agree, he's the most talented - almost too talented for his own good. I think people almost dont want to vote for him because his vocal technique is so refined that it's hard to relate to him as a person lol.

I swear he goes a lot, lot higher in other songs, so a single C6 in that song was probably just cakewalk for him. Also, I think in general most tenors can hit C6 after some warming up..... hell i can do it too, and I'm not talking about just using head voice either.

I don't pretend to know much about the specfics of singing technique, but I do know that many of the greatest tenors ever (Domingo, Pertile and Vickers come to mind first) certainly had inconsistent/strangled/non-existant high Cs in the context of actual performances.
