What would happen if we saw WCS points being given out at small regional events/tournaments/LANs?
I had been wondering to myself lately, if an event doesn't give out WCS points, do the results even matter? Obviously, of course they matter to some extent, but it is funny to think about how I viewed tournaments differently before the WCS system and WCS points. I still avidly watch and follow tournaments regardless of them giving out WCS points, but I also highly enjoy following who stays among the top players in the WCS points standings. Which brings me back to my original point, what if some of these smaller regional tournaments gave out a small pool of WCS points?
Imagine, if a $2500 total prize pool event gave out even just 250 WCS points (Say, 50 points to the winner). This would basically be half the amount of what "regional challengers" give out (500 total points, 100 to the winner) and these "regional events" are already "regional" just like challengers are. I think the fact alone that these small events give out any WCS points at all would increase the support they get, and not just in viewership alone. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I would surmise that giving out WCS points might help lure in more pro-players than not.
In conclusion, I think it would be awesome if Blizzard started a new tier for these smaller events, say something like the "250 - Regional LAN Event", or something.
