Hey guys, tl is probably not my best bet for asking such a question. Actually, idk this place surprises me everyday with things I've never heard of. So while I was googling for a good pure acoustic guitar for about $300, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask you guys for input.
This will be my 2nd acoustic guitar (first one was a crappy beginner's guitar 3 years ago), and I'm not too worried about, say, having the "best" sound. I just want to get as much out of the budget I have. The problem I have is that I'd always end up reading stuff on big name brands like martin, taylor, etc. but they're way out of my price range. Then I somehow ended up looking at takamine and alvarez brands, but I'm not so how reliable they are. Can anyone recommend me some solid guitar brands?

You can get a Yamaha - those are pretty good as well and they don't really cost as much but still sound great. I modded mine with a Fishman acoustic pickup and I can get it to sound pretty damn close to a low end Taylor.

I would vouche for this, you can get Yamahas pretty cheap, and they sound nice. The best acoustic sound I've ever got was out of a Takamine though, it was really old but sounded amazing.

Epiphone's are a decent guitar, sister company to gibson I believe.

Yamahas would be your best bet, would have said a Takamine but i think they were having money troubles a couple of years ago so im not sure on the quality of current builds. But yeah, Yamaha do very nice guitars for that range.
If you would like to splash out a bit more cash i'd highly recommend Taylor Big Baby acoustic guitar. By far the best sound for price guitar iv ever heard. Though thats preference.

I'm assuming by "pure acoustic guitar" you mean a nylon string guitar? Yamahas are pretty good and they're pretty cheap and recently when I went into a store I really liked the sound and feel of a Cordoba but those are a bit more expensive.

yamaha would also be my first choice in that price range, though takamine and alvarez also make fairly good instruments. im pretty sure seagull makes guitars in that price range, so you may want to check out their line as well
you may also want to consider the used market--you can find a lot of more expensive guitars in good condition that would fit your budget
one thing to keep in mind is to try and get a guitar with a solid top--the back and sides aren't so important to the tone. you might have trouble finding a solid spruce topped guitar in the 300 dollar range, but solid ceder is a very economical and toneful choice.

Ah sry for the confusion. I meant just plain ol steel string acoustic and not acoustic electric in case anyone asked, but I guess I forgot all about nylon string guitars.
Thanks for the input. I'm thinking about saving up just to get a big baby taylor as Littlemuff mentioned. I always loved the warmth of dreadnaught guitars, and to own a taylor guitar sounds pretty cool.
