Does anybody else here get bored of the taste of water? Just that same boring somewhat metallic taste of water? I fucking do.I mean sure its refreshing and it's not like i hate the taste of it but does anybody else prefer other alternatives to staying hydrated besides water?
I mean juice, coffee, milk, flavoured water, are all alternatives to just drinking plain water but when consumed in high quantities are not good for you because the amount of sugar, caffeine, vit d etc.
I've tried putting lemon in water, other fruit juices, and barley water (korean background) and I guess they are better than just drinking water but does anybody else in TL have this issue and have their own special 'water recipes'?
Thanks

Water tastes metallic?
Well, an easy trick is just to fill a big jar of water and puttinng it on you desk. Sooneder or later you will automatically fill your cup with it.
|
Im not sure your water is filtered enough if it tastes metallic :O
plain water all the way for me Can't get enough of dat fresh cold swedish water
You don't like sparkly water? It could be an alternative
|
tried sparkly water yet? i dig that stuff.
|
Buy clean spring water in a store. Note the difference. It sure won't taste metallic.
|
i always put a squirt of lime or lemon in my water just like you, makes it so much easier to drink. I realized I was drinking way too much juice a while back and not enough water, it was getting pretty expensive. making tea is also good.
i forgot: warming up the water and putting honey in
|
try boiling water, It taste better after being boiled for me. Edit: and cleaner too
|
Just make it as cool as possible. Either have two bottles and always have one in the fridge, or simply use ice cubes!
|
maybe metallic was the wrong word. but i guess thats the feeling that i get when i drink water. i don't think it has to do with the cleanness...i get spring water and the water at my college is filtered pretty well. maybe im just a boring person haha ...i guess ill just continue sticking some lemon juice in it
|
u have to drink water out of a glass. If you drink it out of a plastic bottle or a plastic cup or whatever it tastes horrible. But cooled sparkling water out of a glass is great
|
Add sugar, spice, and everything nice, which should make water taste great. Maybe it tastes so because of the place you live in? I've heard that some places need more certain metals in the water than the others.
|
Iced Tea? I doubt there are any negative side effects of tea and you can drink it in a bottle like water
|
Green Tea with just enough honey so that it's not bitter. Can't go wrong c:
|
Iced tea has tons of sugar, typically. I recommend loose leaf tea or just a squirt of lemon.
|

If you diet permits it, fruit syrup are great. Use a real glass, plastic cups make everything taste bad. How come your water has a metallic taste ?
|
$20 will get you a brita water filter and enough extra filters to last half a year. Not necessarily any healthier unless you live in some third world country without potable tap water (like Korea), but the taste is definitely better.

Hm? Loose leaf tea is where you brew the actual tea leaves then strain them to get delicious tea.
|
ye, and if u cool the loose leaf tea u got iced loose leaf tea which would be Iced Tea. oramiwrong?

water already is tasty, im probably bias though but ill drink water over anything else.
If it tastes metallic it sounds like its been drunk from a metal cup or something
|
Dye the water for extreme thrills. Just imagine the possibilities! Pink water, orange water or even green water. Now I got really thirsty :O

Water shouldnt have taste
|
Aquafina.
Fucking love the crisp pure taste of it. I've tried a few different types of bottle waters over the past few years and keep going back to it. Just seems the best.
|
Go for a run for 1hour. Then even hot chlorinated water tastes like sweet candy.

It's not only the temperature. If you keep tap water in your fridge or anywhere for a while, the chlorine evaporates and makes it taste much better.

It's funny how German people love their sparkling water. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go, but it really surprised me when I stayed there how it's pretty much the drink of choice over still water. Personally I can't stand it, give me still any day!
And I agree with endy, the colder the better.
|
Some people put slices of cucumber in their water and make it sit for a little while. Apparently improve the taste. I tried it when I went to a boarding type of school but it was ~10years ago so dont really remember if it helped.

Sparkles are amazing man, you dont know what you're missing.

So I went to Europe for about a month, all they sold/provided was sparkling water.
WHY?
My Asian buds couldn't take it.

Water isn't there for the taste, its just really refreshing to have good water. It helps me stay alert mentally and awake keeping hydrated and I like the way it makes me feel.
EDIT* What is sparkling water?? >_>

I don't know why but it's fucking horrible. Fortunately tap water is top notch in Sweden so I rarely buy bottled water but when I have to it's all sparkling. Fuck dat.
Sparkling = carbonated.

It's funny because these dont actually make you hydrated.
Anyway, plain water is the only thing I drink really, I cant drink anything else when I am actually thirsty and I dont particularly like any specific extra tastes. If I can I'd drink bubble water straight up everyday, that shit is just too good. People who dont live in Europe always complain about it tasting wierd and it did for me at first too but you just gotta keep at it, after that its like a god damn drug.

I seriously have a rather deep appreciation for water that few other people seem to have. Not just any water though... CLEAN (deionized, reverse osmosis, spring, mineral, filtered, etc.) and COOL water.
I guess I don't really know why. Maybe because I live in Florida (btw we have like some of the best water in the world where I live o.o).. Try coming down here in the middle of the summer on a hot day with the sun beating right on you with super high humidity but no clouds blocking the sun... do some semi-hard labor for like 30 minutes and I guarantee you if you haven't been dealing with it your whole life you will get super dehydrated and nothing but water is your savior (happens to pretty much everyone at least once).
Yep, hot day + hot sun + physical work = IMMENSE thirst for cool water.
|
So sparkling water is just the awkward counter part of pop taking out all the sugar and ingredients that make it taste good. Im pretty sure when I worked at fastfood, you would give other workers carbonated water as a joke telling them it was sprite and watch them almost throw up after one drink. Gross shit.
|
well maybe german people love their sparkling water coz its best? You usually can't drink it all at once and by that it's harder to kill a lot of thirst at once (well u can but u have to be used to it) but it's just way more of a pleasure to drink

same here in germay. this is why we got those things to carbonate water at home. Really helpful and cheap
|
I find water taste so much better straight from a drinking fountain. I don't know why, it just does.
|
I drink barley tea in place of water now.... Seems better.
|
Coffee won't have sugar if you drink it black like a real man :-)
Lemon water is nice, as is cucumber water, surprisingly.
|
My water doesn't taste like metal... and how could I tire of it, especially now during winter times when it's sooo deliciously cold ^^
|
CITRUS FRUIT, but that is the answer. if you have a filter system (like brita) put lemons, oranges or whatever the hell you want (rasberries are pretty good as well) in the water let it soak in for a few hours then drink. Personally i could drink lemon water all day.
|
Ice water is fucking delicious, I don't know why, but ice has a nice flavor. Maybe my tongue is too numb/burning to taste anything, w/e, I still love it.

water isn't coca cola, you drink water so you won't die. water is the basis of life on planet earth and it's been this way for millions of years, how can you disgrace water by adding stuff to it, i just don't understand. clean pure water is the best thing ever

ICE water is the best thing in the world well I live in Las Vegas... so when it hits 120 degrees outside mmm ice water after a long day working outside or basketball omg i love it...
|
Poland Spring if you're going the bottled route.
COLD filtered tap water if you're going the tap water route. Toss in some lemon if you want more flavor.
Seltzer if you want your water in boss mode. Seriously, I don't think I can be drinking the same thing as all the people in this thread hating on sparkling water. It boggles the mind... Plus, it's a great mixer too!
Throw some ice in any of the above if you feel like it. Chunks > cubes > crushed.
|
Yeah, as everyone else has said in this thread, your water shouldn't taste metalic. It's probably from old iron pipes which shouldn't hurt you but can taste kind of gross. While in college I lived in an old building that had a similar problem, after a while my shower/sink would start getting sort of reddish colored from all the iron in the water. Was really hard water too (lots of calcium) that caused buildup as well. All in all did not taste good at all.

It's a little more expensive than this but not much. The pitchers are a little annoying as you have to keep filling them up, but the sink filters work nice.

Huh? Why would boiling your water take out the calcium? If anything this would increase the concentration of minerals as when you boil the water some of it is escaping as water vapor and the minerals are being left behind. The only way this would work is if you boiled the water then captured and recondensed the water vapor back into liquid water. And at that point you may as well just go to the store and buy a gallon of distilled water for like $2.
Why would it even occur to you to boil water?
|
My fridge has a filter in it and dispenses clean, cold water. If you really want to change the taste though just use some diluting juice or something?

op i fully know what you are talking about
in fact ive also done all those things to add a little flavor to my water
at this point ive just given up looking for specific products and just add a couple tbsp worth of fruit juice or whatever i have lying around

Right, because everything in Europe is better right? I'll have you know that after Milwaukee and Las Vegas poisoned people, both cities upgraded to some of the most advanced anti-microbial water technology in the world. I should know, I was one of the people who got sick from the incorrectly treated water in the 90s. So, take that! :S
Actually the real difference is probably that many smaller American cities rely on well water, which tends to have more minerals such as calcium that can change the taste.

No, sorry you are the one talking complete bullshit. You've been watching too many of those water filter commercials where they tell you that the water in the mountains is so pure and clean but in urban areas you need to buy their stuff.
Sorry, but water anywhere can be contaminated. Even natural springs can contain heavy metals, lead, arsenic, and even radioactive substances like Radium. All natural rivers, even those fed by the melting of clean mountain snow are going to contain a nasty assortment of microbes including bacteria and parasites that could make you very sick. Further, without water chlorination that is applied by most modern water treatment processes, even initially clean water traveling through leaky underground pipes could very easily become contaminated with microbes again.
I'm not sure what the European standards are, but I assume they are similar to the US where the EPA enforces water quality standards with an iron fist (of bureaucracy). I would take tap water in the Netherlands over water from some remote mountain village any day. Sorry, but I prefer to have chemists test my water for lead and radioactive shit before I drink it.

I heard that caffeinated drinks actually dehydrated you since it made you urinate more, some googling and turns out this is not true and cola or whatever is just as good as water at hydrating you.
So yeah, my bad.

it's interesting how sparkling water is so popular in Europe that when you ask for water, that's what they give you automatically (or at least Spain when I visited; seemed sort of popular in Sweden too), but is much less popular in the US.

Anyway, I've never experienced bad tasting water or something, but if you want to make water taste better, I'd suggest you add lemonade. Your talking out of your ass. Tap water better than supermarket water bottles? I would agree with you if you lived in the mountains and in a small village but that's just bullshit you talking. No, it's true, in some areas. It's just really good, every time I come back from a holiday to almost any country I realize how good the tap water tastes here yea, no bottled water comes close to tap water where I live either lol
I have a vacation house in sweden and we get our water there from the loca brun. Loca is actually a brand of bottled water in sweden. And we get our tap water from where they get their bottled water ^^.

Well I don't know about the US but asking for plain water ( or tap water) in Europe at a restaurant is considered pretty rude. Since the restaurant can't really charge you anymoney for that. That's why they give your sparkling water for which they can ask money.

That's kind of a annoying. In the US it's usually understood that if you order water in a restaurant you aren't going to be charged for it. Usually you just get regular ice water, usually with a slice of lemon.
If you order water in a higher end bar/cocktail lounge, often times you will get bottled water that they will charge you for however.

I went to a hotel last weekend and their lobby had a big water cooler full of water, and floating at the top were cucumber slices. Best water I've ever had.

Yeah it's basically restaurant owners being cheap lol.

idk you guys, but asking for still water works over here and nobody gives you a weird look. Some might give you a weird look if you ask for tap water specifically cause they might interpret it as you trying to circumvent the price for the normal bottled still water the usually give out. But when asking for still water in general, it's usually not an issue at all.

dehydrate yourself then drink water water is always more tasty when you're thirsty

Yeah I problaby described it wrong, it's not like you'll really get weird looks. But my parents always told me I shouldn't ask for water in restaurants ( this was especially in pubs in england), because it means you're cheap.

It's the exact opposite in the US. If you want carbonated water, you specifically have to order a seltzer/club soda/or sparkling water. Though I don't know that there are many people here who still drink it.
