Is great!

The android app is still nicer to use but having all the features especially mod functions is fantastic! Go r1ch!

What a fantastic and simple way to do a mobile site, just stripping away the "excess" of the full desktop site.

Great use of KISS (Keep it simple stupid).

Go R1CH as well!

It stores the preference in a session, depending on your mobile provider it's possible caching is messing up your sessions. I added a cookie to disable it as well.

What's not to like about the new layout?

Pretty much all this.
Edit: Do PM notifications show up as easily as they normally do?

Noticed it earlier and my only complain is that I could not find an easy way to access the forum index. Maybe I missed it? If not, a link next to Login, News, etc at the top would be great.

Other than that, awesome job!

aha! OK, to get to the 'my posts' page, click on forum, then 'view threads you've posted in', and select 'view as threads'.

Do you not see "Forum" at the top?

PM notifications I can try and do, Liquibet might end up being too cluttered.

I love it. Posting from iphone right now. Small enough change to not be annoying, but still big enough to make everything so much easier. If that makes sense.

I can't see the reason for the white background at: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/
But it might serve some purpse I guess.

On my iPhone I see no "forum" button on the top and no sidebar on the left, so I can't access anything that isn't linked on the front page.

Honestly the regular TL layout is so good I'd just prefer that it all fit on the screen, perhaps just minus some of the stuff on the right side of the forums, or somehow condense it all.

I'll post a screenshot of what I see on my phone in a few hours after I sleep.

Added PM notification and fixed an issue where you'd randomly get logged out and/ or revert to non-mobile version. EDIT: And fixed missing Forum link for non-logged users.

Preference storing/cookie doesn't seem to be working, just been reverted to the mobile site for the third time today. On ipod touch fwiw.

What's not to like about it? The full version works perfectly fine on my device so I have no need for it. And, funnily enough, the columns that are stripped down are the ones I use the most. If I want to go to the BW tourneys forum, I first need to actually click to bring the forums up, then scroll down past half of the SC2 forums that I have no interest in because the mobile site can't remember that I've shrunk them. If it gets turned back on again I'll see if it's harder than before to get to TLPD, calendar etc. I've yet to see any mobile site anywhere on the internet that I prefer.

Other people's mileage may vary I guess and it'll work for them.

I appreciate the work you guys put into this and make the mobile version available. But personally I prefer the normal version. It reads just fine on my Android phone, and I greatly miss the leftside panel in the mobile version.

I'm glad that some people like the mobile version, but I'll probably stick with my regular version for now. I've literally never seen a mobile version of a site that I liked better than the regular one for phone browsing.

Could you guys please make the Login, Forum, Calender, etc. buttons at the top bar of the mobile page much larger? It would be nice not to have to zoom in to be able to tap them. Even if you have to make the bar 2 rows, the larger links would be easier to tap. Thanks.

I agree.

It's hard to tap without zooming in. From what I've seen from other sites' mobile versions, they make the links easier to tap, without the need to zoom in. It'll be much easier if it's bigger - serving the main idea of mobile versions.

Man, I thought I was going crazy when I couldn't see the side menu. I was like wt is up with my phone. Then I read at the bottom, TL mobile version and was like oh shit! I like the new version of the mobile, but I still like seeing the forum menus and seeing what's up to date while reading my forum. Maybe it's just cause I'm used to the old version.

I dunno I like the design for the mobile version but without a sidebar it feels rather naked.

I browse TL on my phone to kill time mostly and the sidebar is perfect for that with providing a one look overview on interesting threads. Without the sidebar TL feels like just another forum - which should not be this way, as this IS Teamliquid.

Please don't get me wrong, the mobile version is amazing and you've done an excellent job R1ch, but I think I will keep using the normal version just for the sidebar.

This is awesome!! the one thing I may ask though is that you put a sort forum bar that is similar to the normal sites bar on the home page, or maybe change the forum index so it's a little more compact, it seems harder to get through everything on this.

This was posted from my iPhone btw :D

This is perfect. It's not over simplified like many other mobile versions of sites, and you've managed to capture the essence of the site while making everything that much easier to read. Thank you!

As I see, everyone agrees, the side menu gives TL the feel. Even though teamliquid.net/forum is the best way to browse the forum, the side bbar is just so much faster on a phone.

Finally a mobile TL!!
Even though the normal site doesnt't really take forever to load, this is still much welcomed.

I would just like to request some stuff:
- add liquibet please!!!
- add a blog button please!
-

That's pretty much it.
Keep up the great job.
Great job all in all.

Whew ok it isn't just me. I was about to post a thread in general and saw the experimental notification on the bottom of the page.

My thoughts, having to click forums to see them instead of having a bar is annoying same with streams. I'm glad there's an option to revert though.

Its tough because you're faced with having to reformat TL while trying to keep its essence the same. Maybe it still just take time getting used to.

I If had only one option to change something I would have a full forum sidebar on the homepage, but not anywhere else. This would keep the TL feel while granting the efficiency of a mobile viewing site while on all other pages.

Thanks for awesome mobile version.

I would also like bigger top buttons, the ones above the ad are especially hard to hit w/o zoom.

It would also be great to be able to get to liquibet & FPL, even if it's just the full site version.

I personally prefer the regular version of TL. I never understood why people didn't like browsing TL on a smartphone, because for me, it was very easy, and pretty much exactly the same as browsing on a computer. You're pretty much limited only by your smartphone's keyboard.

Anyway, I did notice that the "Old Post" image doesn't really integrate well with the mobile version. There's just a big white space after each old post where the "Old Post" image goes, and it's a bit jarring. If possible, changing that whitespace to the normal TL baby-blue (as it does on the normal site) would be a plus.

Props to R1CH for the effort. I'm sure this will help a lot of people, so I applaud the wizard for his excellence in all things tech. That said, I will continue to use the desktop version when browsing on my iPhone.

1. Can you make the headers bigger? They're difficult to click with my fatty fingers.
2. Can you make the > at the end of each thread bigger? Same reason as #1.

Browsing from stock Droid2:

Can't update my profile, get an error even after filling the 'current password' field. (I checked, it's the right password).

Would also like an option to re-enable mobile version, can't find it and now in regular mode.

It detects based on the browser headers - currently if your device sends a GSM WAP profile or is "Mobile Safari" you get the mobile version. I'll add support for Opera / Chrome mobile later.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

I think it would be cool if instead of the top bar, it would still be on the left, but have bigger links to the things at the same things currently at the top. This would keep the TL feel. Also, I think the posting text boxes could become a bit easier on a phone.

Great job though, looks great.

Well, as far as I can tell there are no stream control functions. That would be nice to have. Also, I can't see a sidebar or a way to set preferences for what forums I'd particularly like to browse. Chances are, I don't need to see Community News etc first when scrolling through-- I know that news. I'm a huge SC2 fanboy.

Well I don't think you're going to see stream control. Not sure why you would need that since I assume if you are streaming you would be on your pc, but I've never streamed so I could be mistaken.

Regarding the Community News page, consider that as more like the Front page, or home. You can click on the forums link to see as much as or more than you would see on the sidebar, with the added bonus of extra screen real estate when reading threads.

Perhaps collapsible forum sections would be nice for the Forums page, though.

Why not have the mobile version of the site located at a different URL rather than autodetection by headers?
That way people can choose which version to view.

What about font size related to screen size using JS? It's maybe 2 px too small in some devices.

How so? What functions are missing?

Well, as far as I can tell there are no stream control functions. That would be nice to have. Also, I can't see a sidebar or a way to set preferences for what forums I'd particularly like to browse. Chances are, I don't need to see Community News etc first when scrolling through-- I know that news. I'm a huge SC2 fanboy.

Well I don't think you're going to see stream control. Not sure why you would need that since I assume if you are streaming you would be on your pc, but I've never streamed so I could be mistaken.

Well say for example you're streaming and your PC crashes. You can't mark yourself offline immediately. If you have your phone and you want to use it to mark it offline, you won't be able to do so without using the full version of the site. Definitely not a major deal, but something I've thought about.

You could go to your stream page / edit / offline for the rare case that happens.

Wonderfull! Ive been wanting this for quite a while, since i check the site from my iphone often.

One change I'd like to see would be enlarging the page number links, maybe giving them a square button. They're kind of small and i miss the one im going for sometimes.

As it is this is already much easier to browse on my phone. Thanks!

I'm wondering, the color differences in the thread on the mobile version, is that normal? Like the post are grey, but the sigs and the background is white.

I'm aware that putting the sidebar back in would make it too cluttered, but is there a way to add some sort "slidebar" so if you want the sidebar you can just slide it out, and when you want to read you can just slide it away. I'm basically asking for a show/hide sidebarbutton with style.

The new mobile layout is great, thumbs up. Also those who are complaining they don't like the new one, scroll to the bottom, you can turn it off.

I was pretty content with the regular version on my Droid but I'm actually really liking this. The mod perspective definitely comes in though as I like skimming through every forum, but I can see why people would want minimize options.

I'm just glad I don't have to use zoom anymore.

Alright, after using it over and over again, I've really grown to adapt and enjoy it as a whole. Like many others though, I really miss the left sidebar. Maybe I'll grow used to it soon, but as of right now, it's just a little wierd. Keep up the good work R1CH!

I use the calendar quite a bit. Is there a way I can access it from the enhanced mobile version?

Same with Liquibet D: but I can understand how it could end up being very cluttered. Maybe link Liquibet 1 and 2 along the top header as well?

My apologies if this has been asked before but is it possible to somehow have a justin.tv stream link open up in the iPhone justin.tv app? And the same for livestream and the others? Would be pretty cool if it's doable. Site looks good though, certainly makes browsing a lot easier, thanks!

So I was on the mobile version and I clicked on 'website feedback' and it took me to the normal version of the site. Now it seems as though it has set that as the default and I can't go back to the mobile version. First, could you fix that bug? And second, how do you switch back to mobile? Is there a way on TL as opposed to clearing cookies?

You need to add a Link to the Search function!

And an option to minimize or hide certain Sub-Forums would be great! (maybe like in the sidebar on the regular site)

Edit:
Or even better: Customize your Forum order. So I could upvote Forums like SC2 and downvote Forums like Tech Support.

The android one is called Justin TV viewer. Its an app that runs the embedded flash player on its own. Its ok but there isnt an official app for android atm and it defaults to the "best" resolution available (always laggy on phones :/)

I don't know the distribution enough to even guess how many tl users use iPhones but if it's doable for the iPhone it would be awesome for those that do. If it's too much work then I wouldn't even worry about it, I can look here to see who's online and open it up myself through the app so it's certainly not a critical issue or anything.

Nice work, but there's still a lot of side-scrolling. Mostly cause of large images.

Most mobile sites use this CSS for resizing images for post contents:

img { height: auto !important; width: auto !important; max-height: 95% !important; max-width: 95% !important; }

iPhone is still the most popular. Android marketshare numbers include a lot of really crappy phones running Android that aren't even smartphones.

Could you please make the links at the top of the mobile site bigger? It's really hard to click Calender or Forums without accidentally clicking the banner ad.

Also, if you could, please include an icon of a down pointing arrow near the top right corner of a forum thread page that jumps to the bottom of the page. Long threads can take a long time to scroll to the bottom of, and many other mobile optimized forums have this button to make it easier to get to the newest post at the bottom of a long page.

Finally, for the Calender, is it at all possible to make the link take us to the most recent running event? It always takes us to the start of the page, and the next event could be at the end of the page, and it takes quite a while to scroll down a month's worth of events. Alternatively, you could button a button that jumps to the bottom of the events like the forum thread page button I suggested.

It's missing 2 awesome features, seeing who's streaming as well as how many new PMs you have on the front page. Obviously that's why the navigation bar is there but since my iPhone can tune into any stream, that's one of the 2 reasons why I still likes the original website...

The mobile version doesn't load too much faster (especially on 5 bars of 3G or Wifi you can barely tell the difference) so idk how useful it is at this point.

I like the idea, and think it should still be improved upon (hence this thread) but for right now I'm going with no thanks, I'll stick to the regular website

Mainly I just wish that the links at the top of the page were bigger. It's annoying having to zoom in when I want to go to a different part of the site -- ideally, I'd never have to zoom while using the mobile site.

Other than that, I'm happy. I've got everything I could want from using the site on the go.

EDIT: On that note, it would also be nice if the text for the topic listings was bigger. It's really hard to a) read and b) hit the "go to last page" arrow without zooming in.

It looks like we'll probably need a mobile-specific version of the calendar since it's such a huge page. I've made the calendar link go only to the current day for now.

Thanks. That's a huge help. I'm starting to become accustomed to the mobile page now. The only other request I can think of is maybe making the Inbox window change to yellow or something when there's a message.

Just a bit of feedback.

The News, Forum, Inbox, and Events pages have the large font size for navigation bar now, but Streams and Calendar still have the small font size in the navigation bar.

I think it needs a home button, like maybe just team liquid and the logo like on top of every page at the top.

Also, I turned it off, how do I turn it back on?

Love it! Browsing tl became much easier without having to zoom in and out all the time. My only suggestions would be to add a link to search and larger page numbers or make them more spaced out to make it easier to touch navigate with them.

Is there any possibility of adding a link on the full site to enable mobile mode?
I don't like having to clear my cookies on my phone (since it clears all the cookies across all sites) to switch back to mobile mode.

Came up to this problem because I wanted to switch to full site to look at final edits and power rank, but then I couldn't switch back

I appreciate the effort!

It does make reading the site simple. I like this better than the iPhone app because I can actually post and navigate more easily. I may delete the app in favor of just bookmarking the site on my home screen.

Would like to see the logo at the top. Retina quality graphic.

Thanks again!

I'd like to add my voice to the people who'd like an easy way to switch between mobile and non-mobile. Is it feasible to make m.teamliquid.net be the mobile version? It would be pretty easy to switch to mobile mode that way, and there's a non-mobile link for people who want to opt out.

The links at the top are better now that they're a bit bigger. However, on the Calender page the small links are still there so that needs to be fixed.

I also agree with a button on the regular page that let's us switch to mobile view so we can go back and forth without clearing cookies.

I also really like the KST timer at the top right on the link bar.

Hi Rich,

really love the mobile version so far.

is it anyhow possible to add swipe functions to it? or isnt that possible for browser functions and limited to apps?
what i was thinking of is the possibility to display the left side overview by swiping to the right (or the other way round for the right bar). like the google search app does.

i fear its probably not doable but maybe the idea is helpfull anyway

Mobile works great. It's a bit hard to get to the forums since the layout is different then the regular.

iPhone 4 here. Not sure how well it loads on low connection situations since I am on wireless or full bar 3G.

Hi! Great work! I really like being able to read posts on my Android phone.

One thing though, and from reading the posts i can tell some people agree with me: It's kind of tiresome to have to zoom in/out all the time to navigate.

I run a mobile site for a small community, and I think setting the "viewport" meta tag for the mobile site could improve the zoom situation:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,initial-scale=1.0" />
That tag will make the site zoom to the number of pixels available on the device (1:1 zoom for that particular device).

Here's more info about "viewport" from the mozilla developer docs: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mobile/Viewport_meta_tag

Just a suggestion though. Keep up the good work!

Sorry if I missed this but how can I turn the mobile version back on? Turned it off once and haven't figured that out. Thanks

Is there a way you can add the name of the thread on the top? Cause sometimes I'm reading a thread and then I just look away from my phone for a few hours. I come back to it and completely forget what thread I was reading.

Your mobile provider is likely caching the page.

Just posting to say the mobile version is awesome. I was disappointed that TL wasn't on Tapatalk at first, but there's really no need.

There isnt any option at the top menu to logout after i login to TL on my Iphone 3gs. Theres a login option but it disappears, and the news section takes its stop as the first option.

PM me for any further questions.
Thanks TL Staff!!!

Tbh, i dont like it. I kinda miss on my phone all topics and subforums on left side

e; Ouch, i just noticed, that there is option: Turn off mobile mode.

Imo it still needs better subforum/topics view + page numbers.
I'm getting the derection.

You can't see the name of the thread you are reading. Maybe I'm the only person stupid enough to forget stuff like that but sometimes I scroll up and I remember I have to back out to see the exact thread name and I frown a little just a small area to consider for possible improvement, maybe most people prefer that to be trimmed from the mobile version..

Edit: forgot to mention, I LOVE THE MOBILE VERSION <3

Same here! I can't imagine it'd be a big deal, as it would only add a single line of text. It could maybe even be small text? I think it would be a great improvement to include the thread name

Quick question - how do I get the mobile version to show up? Am I missing an obvious "mobile mode" link or something, because I can't get the mobile version to show on both Opera/Chrome on my Android. :S

It detects based on the browser headers - currently if your device sends a GSM WAP profile or is "Mobile Safari" you get the mobile version. I'll add support for Opera / Chrome mobile later.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

So I guess that Firefox doesn't do this either? I'm using Firefox on my Android phone and all I'm seeing is regular ol' TL.

Ok here's my problem with it. It just doesn't seem needed!

The standard TL webpage loads faster for me than 90% of 'mobile' websites, and I feel like the mobile site doesn't really give itself an advantage over the standard website. Normally you'd see like larger buttons, tiered forum tabs, etc.

This is just my reasoning for deciding to turn off the feature.

I would imagine a standard upload form instead of the Flash one should work. I don't know if that is possible with imgur though.

I use the picup app to upload to imgur, then I just quickly memorize the image url and type it out in the app. Kind of a pain, but still easier than using Safari, imo.

I came here to ask the same question. Typically there's a link at the bottom of the page to return back to the mobile version of the site so that people don't have to figure out the URL manually. Perhaps you could add one when time allows? Thanks!

Edit: sorry for typos. On my phone obviously lol.

Running android (htc sensation) and love that I can easily view teamliquid, but the page numbers man, the page numbers!

I will often want to go to either the last page or the first page, and only rarely to a page that doesn't directly precede or follow my current page. They should be, at the very least, bigger font. Ideally they'll have a bigger hitbox (maybe replace them with the words "first" and "last" so I can easily hit them, because at the moment I have to zoom in ridiculously to stand a hope in hell of not accidently jumping to page 2, or hitting all and ruining my precious bandwidth, etc.

But apart from that I love it.

Bumping this bitch, I said this once earlier in the thread, is there a way to add the title of the thread in the pages? I keep clicking the wrong thread and start reading it and realize it has nothing to do with the thread I tried to actually click. This happens once in a while but it's quite annoying

Also I see theres no Post button like we have under our username or I can't create blogs from the TL mobile version.

Those two aren't that important to me, but just stuff I noticed D:

A suggestion that I would prefer is that some of the sections be reorganized to reflect the current TL layout. I do not see the need for the featured threads to be in its own section, or moved elsewhere, as few new posts happen in that forum. Also, it is weird to see the Sports & Games section in the old spot in the TL forums, while the SC2/BW forums are below it.

I am in the same boat as others above me. I would like to get to the mobile site without clearing my cache as there is no method to clear the cache selectively for a single site. I would lose all the custom settings for all the sites I visit from my phone. If it isn't possible, I'd rather live with the full version of TL on my phone than have to clear my cache.

On a Blackberry Torch.

Thanks! Every other aspect of the mobile site is great.

There is a way to get it back, but you have to clear cookies.

For me, when I go to the quote reply page, I crash a ton while typing up a reply. Doesn't seem to happen on the bottom reply section.

I've started using the mobile version lately, and it's great! So I thought I'd offer a little feedback

First of all, I think it would be beneficial with an official OP, containing a list of features that are being considered or not considered. It seems that this is the thread that people find when they wish to submit feedback, but you have to read through it all, and much of it is more than half a year old, before you get a picture of what is going on with the mobile version. I realize that keeping a proper OP up to date can be bothersome, but that's one of my two cents, anyway.

The other cent is a suggestion on how to solve the small numbers when one tries to navigate: What about having huge image boxes (or just huge text size, I guess), saying First, Prev, Next, Last and then possibly page numbers inbetween Prev and Next, or maybe even a small field in which one can write the number of the page one wishes to go to? With a mobile device, I don't think it's equally important to keep navigation subtle, since the users, most likely, have scrolled a great deal already and won't ever see the pages in their intireties.

Of course, I realize that you're doing a lot of work (awesome work, I may add; I love the Subscribed threads feature!) on other things as well, so I don't mean to nag, but that's precisely why an official OP would be beneficial. Then people would know when they could expect updates and when they wouldn't.

Like the mobile version, but two things:

1.

I'd love seeing something done about the small page numbers.

2. Also, maybe you could consider adding a comma in the post date (March 07, 2012 16:40) instead of (March 07 2012 16:40
). Stupid Android browser interprets the middle part of the latter as a phone number and opens the phone application.

Never mind.

+ Show Spoiler +
I accidentally reported someone (I think) when I tried to press a page number, so I'm making this post for the sole reason of reporting it, in order to see if it's reported right away or if I have to confirm reporting it. Although slightly off topic, I did it on my mobile phone and it happened because the numbers were so small.

Edit: So I learned two things: 1) You can't report your own posts, and 2) you have to confirm the report as well as a reason. So no harm done, then

I use a blackberry so the mobile version is a godsend since we all know blackberries suck for browsing or at least my 9700 is. The only time I have trouble is with articles like from waxangel that use backgrounds or borders for it.

I can click one and zoom and have the page resize nicely so the entire article is legible without scrolling left or right to see the rest of it. But in the forums its perfect. I click zoom once and everything resize nicely.

I'm unsure if that's an issue with the phone or coding but I thought I'd ask.

Tl mobile is awesome and I really appreciate the work you put into it.
