No offense but that's a pretty stupid comment from Torch. Interacting with the community doesn't make you a worse gamer by any means. Korean dominance has more do to with the (politically incorrect) fact that the average intelligence is higher in Korea and in East Asia in general, and that is also the reason China is pumping out millions of engineers and scientists, and Japan is a leader in hi-tech industries. And that's a big part of the reason why we see Koreans dominating these competitions.
So you are saying that we won't have any African SC2 Programmers due to they average IQ being so low.

It is really depressing how the gap between foreigners and koreans is widening slowly but surely... At IEM only one series between foreigners and koreans was won by the foreigner (nani vs moon) and at dreamhack it is the same result again (okay huk still has a chance but..)
many foreigners stay away of korea because they can attend many more tournaments in EU and NA and earn mor money but hey... this is not working since koreans are regularly invited overseas and own up these tournaments
if foreigners want to keep up with the koreans they need to overthink their ways of practice... practice harder and maybe practice BETTER (just mass gaming is not everything)
|
If we look at the top 8, we have 6 who train on the Korean server, with Jinro being the only one who does train on KR not in the top 8. The other 2 are Socke and Naniwa, who are 2 top European (if not the best) Protosses. The top 4 all train in Korea.

Lol no it's not, its due to the SC culture Korea has in place. These kids grew up playing Starcraft, where many foreigners are ex WC3 pros.
Also, your argument doesn't work as we are considering only the top few percent, not the average of the whole population. Even if Koreans are on average smarter than foreigeners, that doesn't mean the smartest foreigener isn't as smart as the smartest Korean.

There's so much lamenting here over Korean dominance, yet Huk is not out yet, and he's proven that he can definitely keep up with Korean players. He did beat MMA, after all. No one is saying that the Koreans are genetically superior, just that their scene is much stronger than ours. Huk is part of the Korean scene and so him winning would only be further proof of that.
I partly agree. The problem I have with this argument is people continue to ignore the fact that Huk's practice isn't the same as the Korean's. While he gets the same level atmosphere, the communication between Huk and the Korean players/managers/coaches cannot be ideal. The practice just isn't the same when each Korean has every other Korean constantly analyzing and preparing in their native language. Huk doesn't have that benefit.

It demonstrates beyond all doubt that the only way to be top level in this game is to train in Korea. No it doesn't rofl, maybe what you're suggesting is true, but results from a single tournament don't prove that.
MLG? Dreamhack Winter? IEM? This Dreamhack? It's already well known man.

There's something not adding up here. Thorzain plays terran? Not trying to troll about balance, it just seems like Thorzain has been playing in a period of T stability/domination in general in the korean scene. It could be that koreans don't have ZvT and PvT as figured out as they do tvp/zvp/pvp on the current map pool. Also, Thorzain did beat Naniwa in a best of seven for tsl3. Most would take that as an endorsement of Thorzain being better than Naniwa.
In my eyes Thorzain is the better player and I'm convinced he would beat moon in a best of 3.

Hard to deny Korea isn't very far ahead after MLG and now DH ... I remember multiple Europeans saying WhiteRa is the best Protoss in the world and/or the best foreign Protoss. I'm not sure if they truly believed that but hopefully this tournament will bring them back to reality. whitera's pvp is on par with the koreans (going 2-3 vs MC because of a proxy 2 gate) and his pvt is stellar, just his pvz is really horrible hence his lost vs Moon He also lost 3-0 to MC in the TSL. and he also beat him in the world leage...what's your point?

Yeah - and Protoss recently switch faster to storm so your mass Vikings will meet 2 Colossi and are kind of useless then. Its mind boggling how people that don't play anywhere near the top of anything make assumptions. Its all about counters. If he goes 2 robo and you go 2 starport, he's pretty much fucked. If you go 2 starports, he scouts it and tricks you with colossus production and has early storm (given he's not bad and clumps all HTs) you will probably be fucked. Its not just about medivac/viking count.
Getting HT with storm off 2/3 bases after you already invested in colo tech is not very solid. Getting HT before colo is generally not very solid either because ghosts counter protoss, while vikings only counter colossi.
That's why I think PvT right now is ultimately all about medicac/viking ratio.

It was 4-3 the last time they met. I can understand if it was 4-0 because that would be more representative of the sheer difference in class they display every time they play a Korean.
I wonder if it's a mental thing personally. The one thing I have noticed is that Thorzain's level of player doesn't seem to change particularly much depending on who he plays. Most people playing against MC when 2-0 down already would fall limply to a 4-0 defeat or worse, as Idra displayed.
Whenever I'm watching Naniwa play Koreans, I don't feel like I'm watching Naniwa. It's almost like the term Korean puts them straight off their game. Same thing with Idra, who goes for ridiculous mass roach plays that he simply won't win with. Against mass blink stalkers why would you want to rely on a gimmick like burrow to deal with forcefields in the presence of an observer you KNOW is there?
Thorzain seems to be the only one who gives them honest, hard games. July was inches away from losing to him.
Not trying to be a Thorzain fanboy or whatever, though he is an excellent terran, but I like to see hard fought games and I feel like every time an EU or US player comes up against Koreans they crumble to the term Korean, rather to the player. The gulf in class isn't as big as the results make out.
