So... After reading the FAQ and Q&A, the big points I took away from this: For HotS, we would like to emphasize the single player experience, to try to get the fact out there that it's not just for the hardcore gamers. For WoL, we emphasized the multiplayer so much that we almost feel like it got labeled as a game only for the hardcore players. So really, this campaign is the area where we can get someone in, and allow someone to even use just their mouse to get through it. It's an opportunity to explore, and there are moments that allow you to just beat another opponent around; it should allow new people to get into the story experience. We're going to add some new multiplayer units, and take out some multiplayer units and we're going to try to make it really great, but a ton of the work is going to go into single player. - They want to make the game even MORE available for casual gamers because they don't think they made WoL ezmode enough. Q: Is there going to be any solution for LAN? A: We don't have any intentions to do anything towards that right now. We are listening to that point, but we were talking about lessons learned, we've learned a lot on all fronts, online, we've learned to keep it simple. The online maintenance and service that SC2 requires is more than anything that we've ever tried, and it's a lot harder running a service. We're trying to make sure we streamline where we can, as far as that's concerned. As far as lessons learned, the custom games stuff; we delivered something that we thought was really good, and with the community feedback, we learned that there was a lot of stuff that we could do even better. Some stuff that was awesome, and we'll take those and keep doing them and some of them we can improve. - No LAN... something the community has been clamoring for since beta... Q: Blizzard time is faster than real time, Do you have any plans to fix this? A: From a display perspective, there's been some components that make it difficult, such as APM. There is one thing that we want to do, which is make it more clear what real time vs display time is, and how they interact. The score screen is based on mission time, and the game clock is another thing, and it could be broken depending on what we do. And actually when you play custom you can actually adjust it, and it is an odd thing and is something that we're looking into. It's one of those backlog things. - Building the Eiffel tower on a foundation of sand.. Q: What changes will come to Battle.net with Heart of the Swarm? A: As far as Battle.net improvements, one primary focus will be on getting the StarCraft Marketplace up and running at some point around the launch of Heart of the Swarm. The maps and mods community in StarCraft II has published tens of thousands of custom maps using the StarCraft II editor. Our goal with the new Marketplace design will be in upgrading the custom map UI to better showcase the wide variety of great new maps and mods to players who are looking for fun new gaming experiences. We want players to be able to more easily find, rate, and sort through all the great custom maps that have been created. The Marketplace will also eventually include a commerce element that will allow mapmakers to charge a fee for their work. While there will always be a wealth of free content, we believe that allowing content creators to profit from their work will foster an environment for more complex and higher-quality custom maps. Our ultimate hope is that the StarCraft Marketplace will function and thrive in a similar manner as mobile "app-stores" -- tons of free and premium content for players, and a limitless source of entertainment through StarCraft II and Battle.net. I don't see this ending well. I don't mind paying for good content, but I know that the current system of mapmakers creating maps because they had a great idea and wanted to get it out will soon be overshadowed by the hordes of mapmakers who want to make money off a hobby. Don't get me wrong, I am really impressed with the stuff they showed us for the campaign. But if they really want to emphasize the E-sports part of their business model, they're not doing a very good job of it.. Thanks for the article!

Ugh... the article was well written, but I walked into this article excited for the expo, but I feel disappointed. It seems like they don't even give a crap about the lore based on their responses... though I guess you could easily say that they didn't seem to care after WoL. I don't see why that isn't a priority for the single player story that so many SC1 players have come to love but... whatever. *eyeroll* I'm glad they realized how piss poor the custom game search is, but I am actually appalled that they said they thought the system was good. I was convinced that no programmer (a job that requires logic and reasoning) would think that taking out so many important features that made custom game searching so good, would end up being a good service. Ridiculous. For the record, I thought there was some other motive such as it was easier to program or that it was dumbed down to be easier for casual players to get into a game... but wow. They actually thought it was good. The single player looks like it will be the same. SC2's single player was fun for me, but it really wasn't anything special to me. I'm not really complaining about them making it pretty much the same, but I was hoping they might go above and beyond with more creative thoughts. But once again, the disregard for starcraft lore is awful. And lastly... they really seem to want to make their lives easy by hinting that not many units will be added, which I personally disagree with. Now while I think disregarding the lore is just stupid when it comes to a single player experience... at least this part is debatable. I don't think that adding too many units would water down the multiplayer experience as they keep claiming... in fact I think it would liven up the experience. There only seems to be a few different unit combinations for each of the match ups, and I feel that having more options would add more strategy and would be more entertaining to watch. Of course no one is suggesting that they make a crap ton of units, but I think even if they were to have very similar units like thors and goliaths... it could still really work out and be interesting. Oh well... this game has already been ruined (and by ruined I mean... it's not terrible but it could have been so much more... personally) for me by bnet 2.0 being terrible in the beginning. I haven't been able to reach that feeling of community like I did in wc3, and I think that is a huge deal. I wouldn't be surprised if many people now look at sc2 as a game you just log onto, play a few games, and then log off as I do, because chat channels and clans weren't implemented in the beginning to encourage community. Oh, right... the LAN response in itself was a joke. They just rambled about dealing with bnet to avoid answering the question. If you actually read all of that... wow. Feel free to reply directly to me and I should read it tomorrow, if not later today.

Other people could have asked them too, but maybe not. I am REALLY excited about the ragdoll physics. The funnest thing in TF2 is the corpses flying everywhere. The story seems 100% better than WoL so far. Here they address zerg early game scouting. It seems they understand design is flawed and all 3 races will get a renovation.

We'll have more details about multiplayer Heart of the Swarm content at BlizzCon. Do you need heart of the swarm to have this ?? 99% certainly yes. This has been the case with pretty much all games that got expansions. I bet that you'll be able to play the "old" WoL multiplayer if you don't buy HotS, but that place will be deserted mostly as almost all active players will get HotS.
