Q: What changes will come to Battle.net with Heart of the Swarm?

A: As far as Battle.net improvements, one primary focus will be on getting the StarCraft Marketplace up and running at some point around the launch of Heart of the Swarm. The maps and mods community in StarCraft II has published tens of thousands of custom maps using the StarCraft II editor. Our goal with the new Marketplace design will be in upgrading the custom map UI to better showcase the wide variety of great new maps and mods to players who are looking for fun new gaming experiences. We want players to be able to more easily find, rate, and sort through all the great custom maps that have been created.

The Marketplace will also eventually include a commerce element that will allow mapmakers to charge a fee for their work. While there will always be a wealth of free content, we believe that allowing content creators to profit from their work will foster an environment for more complex and higher-quality custom maps. Our ultimate hope is that the StarCraft Marketplace will function and thrive in a similar manner as mobile "app-stores" -- tons of free and premium content for players, and a limitless source of entertainment through StarCraft II and Battle.net.

I have no idea what 'Costum maps' are; nor would I want to throw money at them. Custom maps, on the other hand, may prove interesting and viable. It all depends on who makes the maps, how much effort is put into the maps, and how much the maps end up costing.

Sad to know that the entire custom map experience in warcraft 3 (free too!) was perfectly fine with the map-makers left to their own devices.

But yeah, looking forward to the expansion. I just hope that adding and removing units doesn't result in the same issues that were prevalent in the beginning of WoL live.

So really, this campaign is the area where we can get someone in, and allow someone to even use just their mouse to get through it. It's an opportunity to explore, and there are moments that allow you to just beat another opponent around; it should allow new people to get into the story experience. We're going to add some new multiplayer units, and take out some multiplayer units and we're going to try to make it really great, but a ton of the work is going to go into single player.

Well, they are talking about the single player and how it should be REALLY easy for someone who is totally new to rts-games. They are not making the multiplayer "easier"

To me it seemed like they wanted to show "Hey this is not only a MP game, the SP is great too!" so not even "dumbing down" just giving it more emphasis >_>

Edit: Oh I forgot, thanks for the articles its great. In one of the interview videos floating around I just love how Dustin Browder trolls people by asking what is an iDra

Agreed. I think WoL had a good difficulty scale for its campaign.

For example, the first mission of WoL is incredibly easy on the easiest difficulty setting yet difficult on brutal. On the easiest difficulty setting, a player can literally A-move all their units to the end of the level with 0 micro (I actually tried this and succeeded). On brutal, however, this is not possible, and actual micro is required due to the enemies having an upgrade and numbers advantage.

Nice article. My only problem with the story is that it seems like the exact same zerg campaign from BW.

Why do some people make their polls so specific without covering all the possible answers...

I don't just play multiplayer... I do also play custom games, but I wouldn't pay for them.

This looks so much better than WoL. I'm really psyched ! And the best part for me is the snowy map design, that looks pretty nice. I hope they will make nice multiplayer map in that setting (Snowy Temple ?). Can't wait for the release !

How is he stupid for making that comment?

Because there will never be LAN from obvious reasons, stop asking like a little kids.
And not adding many new units to multiplayer is good thing IMHO

No lan is extremely disappointing. It is hard taking blizzards "support" of competitive sc2 serious without it.

So what I get from reading Q&A is that they will focus on Singelplayer rather than Multiplayer, that there will never ever be LAN support and that their most important change to battlenet 2.0 is to add a market place for player-made-maps. I was not hyped before but now I just could not care less.

About the no new units thing I do think it sucks, I mean I understood when they I thought they meant they would not be adding stuff for the sake of adding(as in, lets say they feel Zerg needs a new unit to cover x area but don't think T needs a new unit) but I don't really want units removed >_>
