I don't really know much about Joe in 02, if he's similar to 13 he'll be pretty reliant on his frame trap game. Since I don't use him I don't really want to go into detail in fear of me giving you wrong information haha. Mature is a character that has pretty decent zoning using her qcf hcb+A move. It's slow and really large and you can follow the fireball and react to whatever they do. She can kind of open people up with her short hop B, cl.B, and cr.B. Using a combination of those you have a decent high low game. Some basic combos with her are: cl.B, cl.B, qcfx2+P cl.B cl.B, qcb+Cx3/dp+C cr.B, cr.B, cr.A, qcfx2+P Athena is a huge bitch with her incredible fireballs haha. She's a really good zoning character and that's the way I play her. The hitbox on those and the recovery is so good that you can just spam them with little drawbacks. The basic game plan with her is to throw a qcb+A fireball and run up behind it. Anti air them if they jump and throw them if they roll. If they block just throw another fireball. A good get out of jail free move is her hcbx2+P move. Some easy combos are: st.C, f+B, dp+A st.C, f+B, hcbx2+P Generally I don't use combos with her and rely entirely on my zoning game though. That's about as much as I know about this game haha. Would you like a general how to play kof guide?

I have tried many many 2D fighting games but this one is by far my favorite. If you haven't tried it, you should. The game is very balanced among characteres, the gameplay is fast and technical, The 2D animation is one of the best out there. I only see qualities on this game so I should stop now. You can catch me on GGPO, my nickname is DiKs. Here is a little vid of highest level in japan. Even though the game is from 1999, there is still a big community as this game is considered as the best fighting game ever. The game starts with a mirror match up, and you'll see, it's as beautiful as a TvT.

DandyDLC's guide to KoF really helped by game out. If you haven't seen it:

Other than that, try doing some fancy combos on practice in order to get a good feel for the combo system used in KoF games. Some are more or less loose than others, but you'll quickly see all the relatively precise delays you need. Personally I'd use Kula or someone similar, getting used to the little delay when using the one inch punch mid combo. You don't want to mash, or wait too long. So yeah, DandyDLC's stuff for poke/defense knowledge, and get a feel for combos in single player. Wish I could play a few rounds, but I'm KoF free until XIII comes out. :/ 2002 was my favourite so far (haven't tried UM or XII). Nice to see people get into the series despite it being so old at this point. ^.^

I feel like I need a character with a simpler game plan considering that I don't even know what the heck a frame trap is. There is also a good friend of mine trying to learn the game as well, and he really likes Shermie/Chris/Angel. Could you be nice enough to give info on them too? :D On May 30 2011 07:44 I8PP wrote: KoF doesn't get enough love in NA. DandyDLC's guide to KoF really helped by game out. Are there more complex/trickier frame traps too? And do they tend to be character specific?

Below information is applicable to pretty much every fighting game and not just KOF. Frame traps mostly rely on your opponent not realizing they're in a frame trap so I guess the longer and more varied your frame traps are, the more complex they are. Generally, frame traps are going to work on everybody seeing how if they block the move you'll always have the same amount of +frames. It'll be harder to frame trap people with faster moves but it should always work. Oh and here are some questions I have for you: Do you know what Shoryuken.com is? Do you and your friend live near each other? If yes to #2, do you guys have access to a PS2 with KOF 2k2 UM? The reason I'm asking is because 2k2 UM is a whole new game compared to 2k2 and it's way more popular than vanilla 2k2. I used t oonly play 2k2 on GGPO but then I switched to playing 2k2 UM with some local friends and holy crap that game is awesome.

Yeah, I go on SRK a lot and my friend and I only live 15 min apart (walking distance). However, our PS2s have been thrown out a while ago because they got busted. I go mostly on GGPO or practice with the GGPOFBA client.

I couldn't find any info about the 2k2 versions of your friends characters sorry. Oh well at least you tried and thanks for all the help. I guess it can't hurt to figure things out on my own. :D
