Correct.
Resources are only lost if the upgrade is a structural one, like upgrading a planetary or a hive. Research upgrades are treated just like units - all the money is refunded.

Even if Naniwa didn't push for that final engagement, Nada would have finished him off easily when 3/3 hits (~20s left) vs Nani's 1/1.

Naniwa engaged the army about as poorly as he could. All of his zealots were in the back, he had poor surface area, his ff's didn't go so hot, and he had bad colo control. Just 100% bad. Their armies were also remarkably even, it was 170 to 200 and Naniwa had a LOT more probes as well as a ton of money banked. His big advantage wasn't in that particular army, rather it was in his ability to reinforce and he totally threw the game with an awful engagement giving Nada really good army retention.

Naniwa's Force Fields didn't help him too much - the Colossi weren't able to engage enough before they died. Yeah, still frustrating to see though, because Nada didn't have to do anything but 1a into that choke.

If the zealots were in front the game ends there in favor of toss Ah didn't even see that That's not 100% the reason though, the colossi all dying without actually dealing any damage is problematic too

ROFL, what could Naniwa do? When Nada got to that position Naniwa was fucked, he should have just let that base die. Nada just a-moved because that Choke favors Terran. You're right, instead of all of his Colo dying while killing a lot of ground forces, they should all die killing none. What could Nani do? -_- Could easily let his empty base die instead of losing a max army in a horrible engage and still be way, way ahead and only an orbital at the gold which could be taken out later. (keep in mind that Nada abandoned his geysers in his main to do that too!)

Nada got supply blocked a few times and also got his army caught in FFs a few times, but nothing like the mistakes Naniwa made.

If the zealots were in front the game ends there in favor of toss that's true if the zealots would have been in the front when naniwa attacked near his gold it would have been a completely different story.. just bad mismicro on naniwa's part

The first game should have tipped him off, though. He's running off one robo, losing colossus is ridiculously painful if his army could handle the terran. He must have thought it could, so he pulled back. Then he rejudged it, and moved forward to try to hit again, but by then he only had 4. The vikings were just tearing through them regardless. If his colossus were wiped, his gateway force could not compete with MMM. So his initial decision to pull the colossus was a bad one.

As soon as toss start making charge lots vs terran I feel T will be QQin Chargelots are easily kiteable by stimmed marauders. The zealots charge ahead of the protoss ranged units, get off one attack then get kited, while the ranged units at the back don't get any hits off. Chargelots are mostly for absorbing damage from the stalkers, sentries and colossus.

Then 5 mins later, I thought 'surely now he'll add the archives'...Possibly just slipped his mind, as we've seen nani use templar very well in the past. Gotta give credit to Nada, thought that game was lost several times (and it probably should have been), but you can never really count him out.

Gateway force can totally compete with MMM when you have good upgrades and the terran has a zillion vikings. Forge snipe made a big diff there.
