Group A
OK. In truth I feel bad to have to spell this out. It's like kicking a puppy. But here we go.
So why
Let's look at JD's numbers:
Career ZvP: 147 wins - 67 losses (68.69%)
Career ZvP(individual leagues, take note of this): 104 wins - 40 losses (72.22%)
2010-2011 ZvP(all leagues): 39 wins - 15 losses (72.22%)
2010-2011 ZvP(individual leagues): 21 wins - 5 losses (80.77%)
Career record vs Grape: 100% (kk)
JD roughly 70% all time in ZvP. Since 2010, his ZvP is 72%, with 6 of those vs PvZ uberexpert Bisu, winning 1 and losing 5. Taking out Bisu, his numbers elevate to 77.55%. In individual leagues, JD's losses since 2010 came from Kal, Stork and Snow - all bonafide excellent players. Yes you may argue the numbers might be deceiving because Jaedong hasn't faced PvZ expert Bisu in individual leagues this period, but hey, it's not Jaedong fault that Bisu did not qualify enough for them to face now, isn't it. JD also won the series in all the matches that he lost to those three.
What does the numbers tell us. 1) Bisu rapes Jaedong, if only he is consistent enough in other MUs to threaten JD late in tournaments 2) Jaedong is the King of PvZ, despite Bisu. 3) JD is another animal altogether when it comes to individual leagues. He loses only to above average P players who prepare a specific strategy against him. He does not lose random matches to some random player like Ssak or Classic. If you still doubt JD's record in individual leagues, he has been in 6 individual league finals since 2009, winning 3 of those.
When does JD lose to a P? Well, Stork and Bisu can take a game off him, that's for sure, Bisu more than Stork. Historically, outside TB, his losses are from Kal, on a
Let's consider the map pool now. Set 2 is Monte Cristo. While the map stats list ZvP at 0% (0-2), this is the kind of map - with wide open fields, wide ramps and clear wide drops to the main and natural that Jaedong and zergs in general delight in. And there is such a long rush distance between the mains that I dont see Grape capitalizing on any sort of early harass to get JD off track. If anything, This is the best map in the current pool where JD can go World of Hatcheries and just steamroll Grape late-midgame. I expect some sneaky cheese from both players though. Set 3 will be on the 70% ZvP map Dante`s Peak SE. Set 4 is what is becoming JD's favorite map this season. For set 3 and Set 4, one has to feel bad for the kid, Although CB might be a good map for some proxies. Finally, Set 5 is La Mancha, We all know what happened in Set 1. The easy 3rd and 4th, is both an advantage to zerg and disadvantage to protoss. JD can abuse zergs mobility here and simply for 3H5H and play it by ear whether to go favor mutas or hydras, depending on how Grape reacts. On the other hand, a protoss going for a greedy fast 3rd and/forth, without the requisite initial harass, is bound to get flanked from all sides. You see, I should have stopped at Dante's Peak, at Set 3, but I figure MSL officials and the fans will be too euphoric by JD's game that they will request JD and Grape to just finish the entire map pool for the fans despite JD already winning 3-0. Sounds like a great idea, honestly. kk
What all this means is that Grape does not have this S-Class level high micro/multitask style that Bisu consistently obliterates JD with (at least not yet), and certainly basing from Set 1, where JD even took time to play with his damned mutas before finally engaging with his real hydra army, it is safe to say that Grape will not have a Bisuesque epiphany and finally figure out a zerg, the Best Zerg, the Best BW player ever, over a few nights.
No. Not gonna happen.
Now, lets go to Grape's record:
Career PvZ: 20 wins - 17 losses (54.05%)
Career PvZ (individual leagues):15 wins - 14 losses (51.72%)
2010-2011 PvZ (all leagues): 19 wins - 9 losses (67.86%)
2010-2011 PvZ (individual leagues): 14 wins - 6 losses (70.00%)
Career record vs JD: 0% (kk)
Mentor: Stork (uh-oh!)
To be sure, his PvZ has improved since 2010. His loses came from Yellow, 815, Chavi, MvPzerg, Roro, Saint, and JD. Honestly there is nothing to be said here, except "Enjoy it kid, and learn from it. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
TLDR: Kid's got heart. He may even make a few seconds here and there of the series exciting.
But at the end of the day Jaedong is going to put the rape in Grape!
