Hey guys. I'm DivinO. You may remember me from such shit threads as DJWheat's apology (where I became his bitch), Nada's Body (where I posted a picture of NaDa), and the TSL3 where I won in convincing fashion over FruitDealer, Tyler, MC, and Kas.*
(* One fact may have been changed to make me seem significantly more baller)
Anyway. I like graffiti. So I'd like to discuss it with you guys for my 3k post.
I mean of course there's a big legal thing. Let's get that "Elephant in the Room" taken care of first (intrigue, sick Final Edit!)
I mean. Tons of writers get flak. Jailtime. Community Service. Fines. You can discuss if legality is an issue and honestly I think it is. Although watching Bomb It! I did find out a bit about public opinion on public space. That is, public space can be made more beautiful by graffiti than by advertising. Also brought up the point that a billboard is a legal, sanctioned degradation of public space whereas good graffiti is the exact opposite.
Anyway, I guess I'll share a couple of my favorite pieces and you guys can discuss your favorites and whatnot. 3k. Yay.
Hm. Do I have thanks to lay out? Yeah, why not. Thanks, Sc1pio, for being the eternal baller. Thanks iGrok and Metal[x], for supporting my work. I still owe you that stencil, iGrok. Take 2. I bought the paper for it. Just gotta respray it and send it in a (more secure) packing tube. Ugh.
Thanks to Nyovne for being a baller mod and not banning me yet. Thanks to Chill for being hilarious. Thanks to all the community greats for making Team Liquid what it is. Oh, and a great big fucking thanks to iNkA for being hilarious too actually.
This is getting long. Here are pictures. Just punch me for misattributions.
+ Show Spoiler [Freehand/Wildstyle/Characters] +Augor Sever Miss Van Bates Revok Kress (favorite writer ez) Kress in LA Could be wrong, but Fate? BELX2 + Show Spoiler [Stencils, Wheatpaste] +Rone Banksy (Conceptual genius, visually he's "okay") Fairey. Massively prolific. Little overrated? I think so. Absolute visual baller. Oh my fucking god that one from Sever is sick. At first I was like maybe I shouldn't look at that, it's an blog about graffiti in a sc forum after all, but holy check! Gave me chills for sure.

Yeah, same. I really liked Exit Through the Gift Shop, but more than that I liked Bomb It. 2008 film about graffiti from more than just Banksy's side. Banksy's a genius, yeah, but the world needs to take a look at more than just him.

wow nice the banksy one is brilliant and the snik one looks beautiful

how do they stick the stencils on to the wall?
|
Hmm, when I tried making a Graffiti thread, it became the fastest derailed thread about how bad graffiti is I hope this one stays in tact.

It's like superglue, but in larger quantities. It's really hard to take off, but it still can come off.

Resources:http://artcrimes.com My favorite graff site! You can find art from all over the world, and its broken down city by city. http://robotswillkill.com[/b] -Great site you can find anyone you want if you know who to look for "Style Wars" 70 minute arguably one of the most comprehensive graff documentaries of the come up of the NYC scene, if you are into this stuff I'd definitely check it out.
Exit Through The Gift Shop - Its banksy yo, just watch it.
Damn i dont know where to start.. Graffiti truly is an art form I hold near to me. Its just such a great movement and when done properly it really is a wonderful art. I'm from New York City, so I've been around graffiti my whole life, I used to write myself a bit but nothing too serious but I had some friends who were pretty good. Every day I ride the train lines, and I stare at the metal monsters that run back and forth. Just plain steel-- all it does, get you to and from work. No one talks people avoid each other its like theres no soul anymore. Its just empty space like you said...
Tell em Banksy.+ Show Spoiler +
Graffiti really took off on the subway lines and train bombing is really one of the most unique parts of the culture.
It took speed, elegance, and not to mention.. a huge pair of balls. Lets find some train posts, I'll dig up now and start this thread off right:
So heres a pretty new bomb but if you've never seen a new age train tag its pretty impressive. They pull the E break and get to work. Unfortunately today these are the only train bombs that really can go up anymore due to security crackdowns after the grafffiti ears in the 70s and 80s, so gotta make it quick and to the point. Fuck yeah.

Love you Curly go for it.
And Stencils are either spraypainted (spray adhesive to the wall, then paper, then paint), or wheatpasted (spray paint onto stencils onto paper, then paste that).

There is a really great graffiti exhibition going on at MOCA in LA this summer, apparently in will be in NY next summer. The modern stuff is of course pretty badass but I loved seeing the historical stuff from the 60's and 70's. Highly recommended.

I don't care much for name tags, but I love good stencil and I guess wildstyle or whatever the hell it is?? Basically, anything that isnt unreadable words. Banksy is awesome
|
I don't really care for the name tags either. Sure it is a flashy font, but what is the point of having it on a wall?
Some of the other ones were nice though. The one I liked the most is the one by Banksy, it made me laugh.
