I am wondering what the repercussions may be if someone accidentally put wrong information on their FAFSA for their student loans. The wrong information could have appeared a few years in a row, but now, someone wants to correct the information. Should they keep up the consistent information if nothing has happened, or correct the information? Would correcting the information be more likely to set off a red flag, triggering an audit (because of an inconsistency between years)?
Let's say this information could pertain to calculating how much aid a student may borrow. I presume that even someone from FAFSA could not answer my question because they have no knowledge of how their computer systems work (what flags they look for and how).
So, what do you guys think? What are the chances of someone running into trouble for this in the future? Does anyone know any websites or forums where this type of specific information is asked about (the "teamliquid" of FAFSA/student loan questions" if you will).
(also, I am from USA).
