I moved to the UK from Ireland at the end of September 2010 to work at a University here. When I first got here I was very enthusiastic about my research, didn't know anyone and had lots of time, so I used spend most of that time in the office. After a few weeks however I fell back in to my default procrastination-heavy state and would spend a lot of time mooching about on the internet, playing Freecell, and generally getting easily distracted. I still got the work done, but the hours I spent at my desk bore no reflection the amount of work I did. At this stage I did not have a TL account, I lurked here on and off since about mid 2007 but only read articles and stuff, never felt the need to sign up (though I almost did for Fantasy Proleague at one stage). I wasn't registered for any forums on the internet, never really saw the appeal.
When I read this season's Proleague was starting up I was very excited, there had been a long gap and I was suffering from rather severe BW withdrawal symptoms. Last season in particular I followed Proleague religiously, watching every single game the last round. The first series of the new season was KT vs SKT1, that good old rivalry, and I was really excited to see it. But the series was played, and no VODs. I found a link for it on Youku but it took so long to buffer it was virtually unwatchable. I then stumbled across a Youku downloader, so downloaded the games and watched them. The quality was not spectacular but it was certainly watchable. I figured I can't be the only who has this problem so decided I would upload it to YouTube. I wanted a decent username, I already had a YouTube account with a username containing my own first name so wanted something different and unusual, something unique, eventually settling on a phonetical spelling of the Irish word for a wolf; Mac Tíre.
Despite the quality being poor a lot of people found that first series and thanked me for uploading it. I decided I would continue. I found that PLU generally uploaded their games to Youku about 30 minutes after it had finished, so I would download them and re-upload them. The problem with this was the quality was poor, and worse, it had Chinese commentary. Still, I usually had the first few games of a series uploaded before the series was over. However I got a lot of people complaining about the audio and the quality. It was about a month after I began when I found my current source, it took a bit longer to become available, but the quality was perfect and it had the original audio.
Before I moved to nevake the whole process took a bit of time, but I figured if I just did that in the background while I was at my desk it would keep all my procrastination energies at bay and I'd still get all my work done. I would leave it download and upload in the background while working but what took most of the time was cutting the videos into 15 minute segments and then naming them; not having to do that on nevake makes my life much easier.
Now my average day consists of coming into work, checking a Korean torrent site regularly for whatever series were played last night. When it's available, downloading and then reuploading to YouTube and adding to the Small VOD Thread, it doesn't really take up too much time any more and I quite like doing it. The University generally has very good upload speeds (though tends to be quite slow some Fridays when a lot of assignments are due in), it usually takes longer to process than upload. I usually come in to do an hour or two of work at the weekends as well so unless I go away for the weekend I almost always keep on top of things. This particular weekend I was not planning on coming in but yesterday I really wanted to watch the last game of SKT1 vs OZ and then today I saw that B.Net attack was on last night so figured I might as well go in, upload it and write a little account of what I did as the idea had been in my mind for a while.
Tomorrow now I have to go away for work until the 16th of April, I do not know what my situation with internet will be until I get there so there may be delays with the SKT1 vs KT (again those teams) Playoff next Saturday but I am not sure as yet. I will then be back for a week and then I am going home for another week at the end of April for Easter, as a result there could potentially be a few delays throughout April, please remain patient if that happens, everything will get uploaded eventually, I haven't missed a series so far this season and I'm not about to start now.
Thanks again for all the support I have received so far.
