On March 19th, nerds from all over SoCal gathered at USC for the USC/UCI Open LAN StarCraft 2 tournament. Organized in collaboration between USC eSports club and UCI's eSports club, 32 players fought in one of the most hyper-competitive SC2 tournaments in the SoCal area with players from USC, UCI, UCLA, and UCSD.
More pics from the event.

People setting up
USC had an extremely nice venue for a LAN. They had computers all installed with SC2 in two rooms, and all you had to do was bring your keyboard and mouse.
From left to right: GHOSTCLAW (og TL shirt), Ekke, Shoey (pro zergs)
Nerd paradise, spicypadthai in the foreground

The tournament itself went extremely smoothly with little to no hiccups aside from scrambling to get the brackets done. Spectators took time to watch the TSL in the other room while the group stages were taking place. There was a solemn quiet aura enveloped the room as the nerds did battle, with only the violent sound of clicking and typing piercing the air.
Left to right: USC’s Usyless, UCSD’s xmShakeSAGA, Fullerton’s Russano
Forefront: BlackStar. The pain of playing on flat mac keyboards....

+ Show Spoiler +
Group A:
onelinko.676, wildcard.173, otlovecake.500, scv.159
All4One's linko was heavily favored to advance here; being the first seed in the tournament due to ladder points he would have the easiest group. The fight for the second seed to advance was between Protoss oTLoveCake and USC Zerg wildcard, both being fairly close in points, where wildcard won out.
Group B:
spsmagician.162, gwho.983, magtheridon.711, probe.333
UCLA's sPsMagician easily advanced as first seed from his relatively uneventful group, along with schoolmate gwho.
Group C:
shoey.467, yyxm.449, blackstar.794, argoth.546
This group was one of two groups of death of the tournamens. Shoey is one of UCI's strongest CSL players, along with UCI 2v2 ace BlackStar who went 5-0 in the regular season. YYXM is one of USC's most consistent CSL players. However, YYXM lost to both UCI players to be eliminated in the group stages.
Group D:
owmygroin.165, ogshiren.623, konceptzlife.118, sfoo.885
CSLA Zerg owmygroin was heavily favored to advance from his group as first seed, with close to 4000 points and being deep in the top 200. However, he was upset by Caltech's oGsHiren, no doubt by some kind of Terran bullshittery.
Group E:
polar.629, ekke.737, invader.724, censored.301
The second of the groups of death, with UCI Terran POlar and UCI cheeser invader, alongside the Zerg ekke. invader drops a game to his schoolmate for second, while POlar cruises through his group 3-0 to take first seeding.
Group F:
darrenc.942, bearstorm.157, scslayer.678, heredity.700
This group featured another upset, with USC Protoss BearStorm defeating the previous USC Open LAN champion Darrenc of UCI in an epic PvP. Darrenc opens up with a 3gate cannon expo on Shakuras, while BearStorm opts for 2gate phoenix. The game goes into a 30 minute long macrofest, with USC barely ekeing out the win.
Group G:
russano.823, usyless.820, ghostclaw.883, funbag.369
Fullerton Protoss Russano made light work of his group, going 3-0. USC Zerg Usyless advanced second, with an interesting game versus Russano. On Xel Naga Caverns, Usyless opted for a proxy hatchery rush, containing Russano to a single base with spine crawlers at his ramp. However, Russano managed to bust out after massing immortals, and pushed all the way across the map to seal the game.
Group H:
xmshakesaga.558, spicypadthai.467, saffir.874, drone.631
This group featured UCSD Terran xmShakeSAGA, who is 11-1 in the regular CSL season, along with USC CSL coordinator spicypadthai. With both Terrans sitting at 2-0, their game would determine who would advance as first seed. This is especially crucial for both, since the second seed of this group would have to play the first seed of group A in the elimination bracket, most likely ONElinko. shake opens up with a quick siege tank expand on Terminus Re in 6 versus 3 positions, but is busted by spicypadthai's thor/scv allin.

Reps provided by darrenc

Reps of casted games (unnamed, will have to check in SC2 or SC2Gears for now. Should be in order of casting from the bottom to top )
http://www.mediafire.com/?ypdnot5tpezjzx6
To those of you looking for a particular game played in the Grand Finals, it may be in the pack but it's not "appropriately" named. If it's not there, just let me know in a post and I'll try to get it uploaded ASAP. I am away from my desktop for Spring Break so I can't check if the rep is there immediately.

All the games were incredible and definitely worth checking out to see the top talent in the SoCal area (no joke, all these players are ranked extremely high in their division and have hit top 200 consistently). All the series were worth watching, especially a particular game in the grand finals.

Thanks
I want to give a HUGE ESPORTS THANKS to USC eSports club for hosting the venue. As you'll see in the pictures, they had a extremely nice setup with computers and provided. Thank you to Bada, Andrew, Mark, Benny, BearStorm, the guy who handled the money (I'm bad with names T_T but you were awesome) and Carl for helping make the tournament run smoothly. Another huge thanks to Sean 'Day[9]' plot for using his manly ESPORTS powers to manifest more time in his insanely busy schedule to cast the grand finals. Best of luck on the home stretch of his thesis!
And of course a thanks to everyone who showed up to make the event possible!
