I really like DoA, i think now gom will realize they might have made a mistake considering how hes so far ahead of kelly after his first day..
joking? he had NOTHING insightful to say about the games. just describing what happens on screen doesnt take much...he makes tasteless (and even kelly) seem like artosis. at least since he offers no analysis hes not giving any wrong information

I didn't see the cast, but I feel that it's always good to have an analyst and an announcer as a 2 man team. It's not essential that the announcer have gosu level understanding of the game, he's just gotta be able to narrate!
Sometimes casters mess up and say stuff like "he's so far behind, or I don't see how this will work etc." and are often proven wrong a few minutes later in the game.
Look at any sportscast of any sport ever and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah, how dare he be a play-by-play caster just like Tasteless.

Doa and Kelly are fantastic. After the initial shock of not hearing the sound of the beloved Casting Archon, I quickly found much to like about the new duo.
People have a really hard time adjusting to change. I feel that by next season, the haters will have thinned considerably. Nice job GOM.

I wish there was a schedule posted of when/who the casters will be.

Knowledge of the game really is secondary attribute for a new caster compared to having a sense of humor and being able to speak fluently. The knowledge about the game and its current trends is learned pretty quickly on the job and most likely from coaching by Tastosis. Getting rid of an "accent" is not as quick and would require specialist training and this isnt something GOM could provide easily compared to game knowledge. Everyone I know thinks he is terrible (casting style, game knowledge AND voice) but the masses seem to love him for some reason. Since he is first and foremost an "entertaining" caster it falls under the category of "humour." And humour is very polarizing, you find it funny or you don't. Nothing wrong with that. I dont think humor or his accent are the deciding factors. Many people on this forum think that - because they are part of the "elite" - only deep analytical casts are good casts and that therefore they have to be opposing the entertaining play-by-play casters like TB and Husky. People think there is only one "right way" to do things, but that is not true. In the end every smart viewer will be as good as Artosis at predicting the game, but what will make a cast interesting if you are as good as the casters at it? The non-game-related stuff like the jokes and the "telling of the story of the match" (enthusiastic play-by-play). There have been days where the jokes cooked up by Tasteless and Artosis have been sooo bad (cheap) that they lowered the quality of the not so interesting games by it. Even the most knowlegeable casters can go the wrong way sometimes ... just as "the best" Starcraft progamer can have a bad day and lose to a boring "noob cheeser". I think overexposure is a key to making an eSport cast boring and having different teams for code A and code S is a good start. What I personnaly search in a caster is knowledge. If the caster knows his stuff, then I can enjoy the cast and his jokes. But if the caster keep saying nonsense about the game or limit himself at the plays by plays, then I have a hard time enjoying the cast. I can see what's happening on the screen myself, but I like to have further informations / explanations / insights. Humor is only an added bonus for me. This seems to be the same "fail attitude" which is so prevalent in many companies. These companies want to hire people with excellent grades, 7 years of experience and of course not older than 25 ... instead of training people themselves to suit their own needs. SC2 is a relatively new and still constantly changing game to cast and all servers are different in their styles somewhat. It sounds not so wise to expect perfection from casters who are new to that level of casting.
As I already said it should be much easier to give Doa a crash course on the current tactics in the game than to teach Kelly to pronounce words so they can be understood without having to interpret them yourself or even to teach Tasteless and Artosis a less awful sense of humor. Lets give new casters a chance, because even Tasteless and Artosis probably started out as less than omniscent.

lol are you serious? Have you ever read TotalBiscuit's posts on TL? He is VERY unprofessional quite often. He has a terrible personality and he is rude to a lot of people for little to no reason. Of course he uses reddit, he needs to market himself somehow.
TotalBiscuit has a great voice, also have you ever noticed him saying garbage words like hmmm, or uhmmm? Never, he always thinks BEFORE saying something and only few people can do that.
And I'm like 95% certain I have heard him say hmmm or uhmmm.
I used to think TB was pretty cool, but the more I read his posts on TL and the things he says to people the more I started to dislike him. And now it's to the point where I basically hate him.
Anyways about the GOM stuff, I think trying out different casters is great, but at the same time switching casters every month can be bad. It doesn't give people time to fully adjust. I think GOM can do a better job at picking casters and not just get the first guy to come along that has a visa for korea. I would prefer torch over Kelly honestly :\ I've heard him cast before, he's not bad, and he does know quite a bit about the game, AND he's already in korea working with GOM. There's tons of people i'm sure that would be willing to go that would be exciting and have decent game knowledge. If they want an asian girl they can just use Bunny! I remember her from Blizzcon WC3 casts with DJWheat and she wasn't too bad.

Seriously there might as well have been a brick wall between Kelly and Doa, no number of comments about his time in Korea or witty jokes (Which I thought were pretty funny, SuperNova about to explode lolol ) could spark a meaningful response out of Kelly.
Doa sounded incredibly intelligent, casted conservatively and didn't make a single mistake in judgment or even speech, ON HIS FIRST DAY. On the other hand whenever I hear Kelly see a gas pool opening and she says "OMG I THINK ITS GONNA BE A ZERGLIN ALLIN!" or talks constantly about how much she likes fast steem bio pooshes from Terran in PvT and is like 'WTF is this' whenever she sees anything that isn't that (EG Siege tanks) I seriously want to cringe. On top of that Doa is leagues ahead in terms of speaking and casting ability in terms of listenability, no question, simply because he is fluent in English.

I have to say, Doa (or however its spelled exactly) impressed me. Clear, concise, intelligent and doesn't pretend to know more then he does. Game knowledge might be a bit behind on both tasteless and artosis, but time will fix that. He also needs some time to develop an on-screen personality, but he seems like a great choice with all the basic skills right there. Good choice by Gom.
It only aggravates the 'kelly-problem' tho, where both tasteless and artosis seemed to calm kelly down a little and stopped her from analyzing too much(artosis more then tasteless), with Doa she seems to feel like she needs to fill the analyzing role more, and it's just not working out very well. As soon as Doa gets the experience to move more into artosis'-role, I'd say code A will become enjoyable again.

Well Code A is like w./e now. Still watch it,I guess. Going to miss the newbie comments from code A tasteosis.

Except that Tasteless does occasionally have really good information to add, and he very frequently predicts exactly what the players are going to do well before they do it. DoA seemed to actually know nothing, and I'm sure he does know a bit, but he didn't talk about any of it. He seemed to be quite unsure of himself.

Doa did a fine job. I'm sure there are others that will, too. The trick for GOM is going to be to find another caster with a level of the game sufficient to talk about it intelligently. My favorite part of the casts (aside from the banter, which can miss occasionally but is usually fun because it's clear Tastosis are having fun, and that shit's contagious) is Artosis's analysis. He's often able to clearly articulate when something may work, when it won't, etc. Plus, he actually knows some of the players and knows the builds that are being used at the top teir of the Korean ladder. Finding someone who can mirror that is going to be tough, IMO.
But really, what they need to find is a pair that is both competent speaking in front of the camera and able to work well enough together that they look like they're having fun. That's not always easy to get.
|
djWHEAT made it clear that he is settled down with a family and job so he won't be flying to Korea to cast. He probably just wants to talk to them about ways to improve their cast.

This is a reply from John from the comment sections @ the gomtv forums.

Last time I tried change I wound up with Obama (jokes).
I think everyone gets way to bent out of shape over the caster changes. We still have Tastosis for the "more important" tournament, and the other casters are doing just fine. People who complain about Kelly's accent and are native English speakers are just not putting any effort fourth, if you have been around English you're whole life you really have no excuse not to be able to understand her other than just giving up. Sure she has an accent and mispronounces things but that is something that most non-native English speakers have to deal with and is part of their process of becoming truly fluent in another language.
GOM is going about the process in the right way, and there will be a few bumps in the road I am sure but if it gives us the refined Tastosis we all know and love, opposed to the overworked version we have had lately then it will all be worth it.

I'm really curious if Wolf will be trying out soon, I know he applied and I think he would do a fantastic job @_@! Anyone know if he has said anything about it?

Maybe Klazart should come out of retirement, once he is done writing his book.

Can someone explain to me why casters get more blatant hatred and trolling than players? It makes no fucking sense. Every single caster. Is this a game or a high school pageant?
