This is just untrue. You should actually play HC for a time. There are still huge difference between weapons. If you have a F2000 and I have a XM8 and we fight on medium distance you will have a huge problem. Almost every weapon has advantages over other weapons depending on the situation. Resuppling is important as well, especially for engineers and snipers, and healing? Healing is one of the strongest advantages one can have in any situation. Because you don't autoheal having 5 hp is really dangerous as absolutelty everything can kill you. A group of 2-4 medics standing on healthpacks and have some cover is a huge strongpoint which is very hard to kill. Healing is highly important. Even spotting works, as you still have the map (oh snap that works?!) and can spot just as you can in SC. Only difference is you have no silly HUD like you are some sort of robot.
Regarding camping: If you camp and you play against a skilled squad you won't have a chance. You may get ~2 people but the third will just stomp you. But even a single assault can own you as grenades will give away your position, making it very hard to stay hidden in close combat maps like Oasis. Open maps make it even worse for campers because there are so many angles that you will catch a bullet in your back. It is like I said, if your entire team camps and doesn't hold its sector it will lose. If 1 or 2 players camp they may get a positiv k/d but they will contribute allmost nothing to the game. The only time camping is really strong is on maps which have really imbalanced points and no vehicles, but this only happens on Vietnam (Hill comes to mind), because in normal bc2 you can just blast away any cover (rocks are good cover but can simply be suppressed with grenades, this doesn't work on the spots on Hill though).
I can understand that most points are hard to see if you play SC were the HUD tells you everything and you don't need to use your head to get all the information but really, play HC for a while before you make statements like "healing doesn't matter".
If I play hardcore, it's sniper paradise and freaking pistols 2 shot you so any old retard can just spray and it's basically who has the best connection.
If I go onto normal, guns take 20 shots to kill someone unless you get every shot as a headshot.
I get really frustrated playing this game. I picked it up at christmas when steam had it's big sale, so I'm no pro by any means. If I play normal mode, it seems that it takes too many bullets to kill people, and the guy with the MG36 or the AUG always kills me. If I try to play hardcore mode, I just always get killed by the snipers immediately after spawning. So I'm kind of losing enthusiasm for this game =/

Try taking the body armor spec. It will let you *usually* tank a sniper shot. Obviously if they have a m95 you're screwed anyways. Combine body armor with medics for the most rage :D.

Try normal mode but don't hold down the mouse when firing you have to do short bursts like in CS. The MG36 is what I what deem the slightly OP area same as the AN94, M60 and Mp443 so expect to lose out to people like that. The AUG however isn't very good and I find that the XM8 is better. Try to find things that appeal to you. If you like sniping go do that, if like to run around 1shotting people with the M24 and c4ing people then do that .
Other fun things you can try are using the AT4 (TOW missile) to kill people and helicopters (which is a serious skill). Use the 40mm without explosives, red dot m95 for halarious kills, only knifing (you will need armour and lightweight and constantly serve) and shooting Gustavs out of helicopters (they aim dead straight even though you're moving).
Personally I don't like HC because of the people that sit around in bushes with their snipers and the fact that you get killed so easily and spammed to death with nades/rockets. HC is really only there for those people that want to consider themselves better for playing a less forgiving game

As the above posted said, the key is to learn to fire weapons in bursts. If you go for AR's, find the one that suits your style of play and learn how to burst with it over various distances. It really doesn't take 20 bullets to kill somebody. I think one of the distinguishing features of the BF series was always the fact that it takes more practice than other FPS' to learn to use weapons effectively.
Got decent at Assault class and preferred weapon is XM8 Prototype. Recently been getting into Engineer class and boy am I glad to have unlocked the 4x scope (didn't know the class had it :D).
Atacama desert is a great map once you get comfortable with the game but I remember hating it when I was a newb. I recommend Africa Harbor for newbs that way you won't have to deal with pesky vehicles right away.
Gotta practice my tracer dart shot on the helicopter though... even tougher is hitting the heli with a tank shot.
HC is such a trash gametype. They make explosives retardedly op, and actively make you aim worse, because firing faster > aiming. As long as you can connect a couple of rounds, you're good. In SC mode, you actually have to burst fire and keep your gun on the target.
And bear in mind I say this as a guy that plays in HC all the time, because I usually snipe really well and use the revolver and mortar quite effectively, so i enjoy racking up 40-2 kill counts because n00bs refuse to move out of "their spot". You know exactly who I'm talking about too, lol. Those guys that have a "spot" they go to on every single map, offense of defense. They don't move unless forced to, and when you shoot them in the head for the 18th time, they just call you a hacker and leave.
I love playing as an active front line sniper, because you can two shot people with the revolver, you still can spam nades, and you can no scope for OHKs at close range pretty easily.
This is my favorite game besides sc atm. I dont claim to be be awesome at the game or editing but Im well above average in using all classes and flying helis and i make gameplay videos as a hobby on sony vegas from time to time. Sadly alot of my friends stopped playing this game and I could use some new friends ;D I love this game best when I work with regular squadmates. PM me to exchange steam info!
I have to say is this has to be the best montage video that I've seen yet for BC2. The editing is superb and has some of the coolest moment in the game.
Sorry to bump this topic but does anyone still play this game? After the sale, I bought it and I'm quite low rank, but I love the game, just rarely anyone to play with D:
Ahh I tried to buy the game on the day of the sale, but steam just wouldn't let me register an account for some reason. I would love to play if I had an account, I used to play on xbox and it is so much fun. I think I'll try to re-register an account after final exams.
I quit playing it after the 1.51 patch came out for BF2142. I find its gameplay to be superior by far, and getting Northern Strike free+new maps is a deal I can't resist.
