I'm not judging anyone or spreading hate but I just gotta ask...
I'm sure some of you watch Korean Dramas, not just the funny or weird ones but I mean the lovey dovey melodrama ones.
Well, I don't have a girlfriend right now so that's not what this thread is about. I do however have friends that are girls.
They love to watch these Korean Melodramas and sometimes they talk to me about it and I remember conversations with a bunch of my friends (that are girls), and they start to get sad... talk about how they don't know if they can trust love and all this crap.
How if they do find love, they want the guy to be like those Korean guys, at LEAST 180cm (5'11) tall, which isn't a stretch actually but they also want money, cars, adventure, all this drama stuff..
Now.. OF COURSE tv shows in all countries promote this. I am not saying Korean dramas really suck and they brainwash people. I am merely mentioning Korean Dramas because that happens to be the stuff my friends are watching..
Anyway. Does anyone else feel though that all these feelings my friends are experiencing.. kind of.. weird?
That they let fictional tv shows affect them so much when it comes to trust, "love", that they would be so close minded in what kind of person they wanna date just because a tv show says so?
I mean... that is my main question.
Please do not think that I am bashing Korean Dramas and saying that North American stuff is better. That is NOT what I'm aiming for at all.
I'm talking about tv shows in general, (and in this case Korean Dramas, only because that is the source that my friends are connected to)
*I talked about this to my Korean friends and they really have a lot to say about this. How real life is real life and that a lot of Korean girls that they know from Church or school or whatever tend to aim for the drama life style. Where it isn't a real relationship unless there's 2 rich guys chasing after her and that one of them has to get cancer or something. It's apparently really really ridiculous to date a girl who lets Korean dramas run her life.

a lot of people have a hard time living in reality
|
eventually, they'll grow up and realize life is a much better drama.

First of a butload of soap operas have this kind of crap going on since the dawn of time. You may think its stupid, but then again there are LOADS of people who watch that stuff passionately. I think your female friends fall into that category.
That they let fictional tv shows affect them so much when it comes to trust, "love", that they would be so close minded in what kind of person they wanna date just because a tv show says so?
Second, you must realize that your friends aren't being brainwashed by Korean dramas, anymore so than anime-kids who love their animes at such a level that they think in a similar fashion as your female friends. In other words, your taking this too seriously, your friends are probably silly naive girls who are enjoying their romance stories, they will either grow out of it or get slapped in the face by reality soon enough.

I've watched k-dramas for a long time now and occasionally I watch the sappy romantic one. I admit I'm a hopeless romantic and I think some people would like to have their love life like a korean drama. (nobody would want the cancer part >.>)
Yes I know its brainwashing girls and makes it impossible to actually "date" one cause all them have such high expectations, it just requires somebody to just burst their bubble

LOL, that video is too funny. Kind of a dick move for the brother to post on youtube though.

First, tell your friends they are stupid for not realizing the difference between real life and a korean drama. Second, tell them to get back to the real world before they spend their whole lives watching these dramas until they're 50 and still hoping for that tall man with cars and money to come sweep them off their feet. Third, pull out your penis and slap them with it for being stupid

NGL, Goong Princess and Boys over Flowers are the only 2 korean dramas I ever finished. The korean romantic stories are so good.

lolz to that video. the "crazy" ones that watch those dramas live in their own world.

Sad to say but a lot of people are so sucked into this that they believe the only correct way for guys to "romance" a girl is through what they saw in these dramas. Not only that but girls also have their standards inflated to the point where they expected the lifestyle of a princess to be provided to them. I have guy friends that tries to "teach" me with whatever drama they watched and now I absolutely avoid them because of how brainwashed they are.
Also, I have seen people's personality change after watching these dramas. They instantly persuaded themselves to become more like the protagonist/cool guy/cool girl and starts cliche drama scenarios

Yeah, TV messes with peoples' heads. It's not good, but there is not much you can do about it, except perhaps wait until you have older/more mature friends.
A personal story: I grew up with a whole lot of aunts and uncles who are divorced or remarried. Talking with my mother about it one day, she mentioned that one aunt and most of my aunt's friends all got divorced around the same time. They all watched the same (Western) soap operas, and at the same time that they were getting divorced, all the characters in these soap operas were getting divorced. The soap operas probably weren't the reason my aunt and her friends got divorced, but my mother thought they did have some effect on how that group of people saw the world.
By the way, in my opinion crime shows and action movies are much worse than soap operas. They get people thinking in terms of "bad guys" who are "out there", while law enforcement people are heroes who are always on our side working against the bad guys. Meanwhile, in the real world police forces in NA get more and more militarized, swat teams raid random houses, burn stuff down, and sometimes shoot random people.

Yo Secret Garden is no joke, it's almost like real life, except for the whole body switching thing.

Didn't feel anything even after finishing secret garden. Females are just more susceptible to tear-jerkers?

LOL at that video. That guy finds enjoyment in the same things i do lol. I did that same thing to my brother once(minus the part about crying after watching kroean dramas)he just doesnt like to be tape recorded and it's funny cuz He knew i was recording him but had to stay calm cuz he didnt want his craziness to show on camera for me to show eveyrone lol. So he just stays quiet(mind u inside he's getting rdy to explode with anger)finds a piano book and throws it at my camera lol. I wish I still had it, much funnier if u saw it espcially when the piano book makes a loud "smack" on the camera lol.
but yea i do admit that guy is kind of a dick for doing that to his sister but still funny regardless :p
