As much as I like cheese myself (I absolutely love gouda with some cold cuts on rye bread), it must be used as a tool at your disposal, nothing more.
Think about it, what happens when it doesn't work as intended? The answer is that when it doesn't work, you look like an dumbass.
+ Show Spoiler +Here's a little story about a TvP I recently played on LT. I spawned as the red Terran at 9 o'clock, with my opponent spawning as the blue Protoss at 3 o'clock. Early on, my opponent decides he wants to cheese me with in-base cannons + gateways. However, he misjudges where I spawned. ROFL!Of course, this means his plan didn't work as intended. No biggie, just go to plan B - hidden expo + straight to void ray harass: Of course, I scout the hidden expo and the void rays, with more than enough time to prepare. With his primary and secondary plans in jeopardy, he switches to plan C - Mothership + carriers..... Another ROFL moment.Of course, my army is pretty small, and he's able to vortex the entire thing. Not looking good.....But what good does that do for you when you end up leaving the battle as the loser anyways? Lol? How'd that happen?I finally decide to counterattack. As soon he notices it, he decides to warp some units into the back of one of my expansions. Annoying.....But my army is more than enough to take out his base, while his little harassing force gets cleared up pretty quick. Lol, since when did Marines become so good in TvP?So, he's finally backpedalling. Since cheesing me hadn't worked so far, he went for..... DT's?Yea, they don't work out at all. And, of course, he has to leave, saying that I'm a dumbass..... And I think my response was well waranted.Link to replay.+ Show Spoiler +I hope you realize that I was totally fucking around with him. I'm disappointed at the skill level of diamond players.....

That first pic is awesome, would have been hilarious if he cannoned all the way towards nexus before realizing you weren't there!
You say at the end your response is well warranted, but what response is it. You didn't post any after-chat or anything so I'm totally lost unless this blog is your response.
EDIT: I'm Blind. And Dumb

Were those made out of depots? If so was there insane raise/lower micro going on?
GG btw
edit: should have made a heart xD
|
Well to be fair, carriers ARE pretty much useless.
|
Nawe, I'm too lazy to micro them..... Although it's definitely a good idea!
Might have to do the heart next time though. I don't normally do crap like that, but he definitely deserved it in this game.

When you cheese you look like a dumbass regardless of if you win or lose (unless it's a really sexy cheese)
|
This was pretty hilarious haha. And you said he was in diamond too? :p
|
At least he was committed to it. I'm a little disappointed about the void ray -> carrier transition, usually they go DTs right after void rays. Ah well.
|
LoL at first pic, but ppl who cheese into diamond make me sad
|
LOL great post. Sometimes in team games I cringe when 1 guy cannon rushes, the other proxies, another one rushes voids, and the last one DTs. Turns out this guy did everything.

I'm still surprised people post that carriers are bad...they're one of the strongest units in the game. And lol @ the bM at the end. He cheeses, transitioning into every single abusive thing he can think of to outright win the game, and then says you just "mass marined" lol.

While I agree with the OP that being a multi-faceted player is incredibly useful, I think it needs to be made clear that the blue Protoss was a moron in that game. Blind proxy-rushing on a four-player map is far different than being able to pull off a good dark templar cheese or proxy gates on a two-player map.
Being able to cheese and mix it up is just as useful as being able to play a standard game Keep your opponents guessing!

It wasn't blind, he scouted the other 2 positions first, and didn't see me in either of them. I built my rax and depot in a sim city style near my bottom geyser, and he didn't go far enough into my base to see my CC.
But he is definitely still a moron.

How can someone be too lazy to micro something as easy to control as a depot! Is clicking on one with the mouse and then pressing a single key exsausting? I don't know why but for some reason I always get angry when somone claims to be too lazy to do something obvious and useful. I can understand one being too much of a failure at multi-tasking to take the time to micro but laziness is a lame excuse for putting urself behind in a game, like saying "you won cuase I dont give a crap and am not trying that hard".

Well, when I was that far ahead, I didn't feel like I needed to raise and lower the depots..... I mean, how much further ahead could it have gotten me?

I dont really know if making another cheese after a cheese still is considered cheese due to the time passed. Cheese into annoying strat anyway. Played a bunch of teamgames like a week ago when every single protoss went voidrays into dt. Obviously it was 3 vs 1 when dts were out, but they probably feel like heroes and dont realise that it's their fault the team lost.

tell me about it. In civ3 I've gone up from monarch to regent while not using any wonders(library was an especially big crutch). It's applicable to a lot of games and in fact real life!
|
Cheese......hmm.......I don't use them except maybe for tournaments now in best of series.
I remember the funny times of me forgetting how to do a BBS Cheese as Terran for BW. I've always been a macro player and the funny thing is I managed to recover from a 4th scv sent to build rax and win the game (My friend was weaker enuf to make such a comeback lol)
