Hey TL'rs Maplefractal here. This is my first blog, and you might ask why is it about X-files vs something relevant to TL like SC2 or BW? To that I say, "I don't know enough about Sc2 to blog about it, and there are more knowledgeable people on TL to listen to rant about SC2 or BW " So Ill just talk about something I think we all enjoy(otherwise why would you click this blog title??) the X-files. I was hooked on SCI-FI when I was 6 years old, when I inadvertently got to watched Alien on TV while playing with the remote:D After seeing the Xfile's commercial so many times I'd beg my parents to let me watch it and that I wouldn't get scared(almost always did lol) and eventually I was allowed to watch it all the time when I wouldn't stop bugging them about it. I remember lots of good times talking with friends that were also allowed to watch X-files at school, there were not very many. Over the years Science Fiction and Hockey were(and still are) the only thing on television that I wanted to watch. Probably one of the reasons I love Starcraft is that it is science fiction based and RTS(my favorite game genre). If you were or still are a fan of the show I invite you join me in re-watching the entire series (pilot-season9) if you have the means. (simple google search for: watch xfiles online) I will be putting my thoughts and a basic synopsis in spoiler tags for each episode, as well as a second spoiler tag focused on more in depth ,and probably crazy, conspiracy regarding the plot. S01E01 Pilot + Show Spoiler +Set in the great state of Oregon. Which has given us Matt Groening(The Simpson creator), Mitch Pileggi(Walter Skinner) and one Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson. Geoff, if you ever read this, your not on wikipedia's famous people but we know who Oregon's favorite SC2 pro is In this small town surrounded by woods teens are mysteriously dying. Each of the bodies had two small moles on their back. As Mulder and Sculley(did anyone else enjoy Sculley in the buff too?) investigate their evidence and even the bodies exhumed are stolen or set on fire to cover up what is happening in the town. The parents and sheriff all seem to know whats going on. Billy Miles, a boy apparently in a coma is taking the teens into the woods to be killed by a mysterious white light. As Mulder and Sculley enter the woods to collect another sample to compare to one taken from Billy Miles they discover the Sheriff's truck and investigate, Sculley is knocked out by the Sheriff(A. hitting a women bad B. hitting a women with a shotgun is just fucked C. NOTHING HAPPENS!!! WTF lol episode finishes and nothing happened to the guy!) Mulder prevents the Sheriff from killing his son before the light changes the boy back to "normal" (no coma) When he is interviewed by the FBI he says that voices in the light implanted a device in his head and gave him instructions to kill the others. And that their(voices) experiment was a failure, that they were leaving. The Smoking Man(look for this guy often!) quickly speaks with a man and leaves. Sculley debriefs and goes home only to receive a call from Mulder saying the files were taken as well as the alien metal Sculley recovered from one of the bodies. All in all good pilot imo + Show Spoiler +So holy frigging hell guys and gals, when I was watching them interview Billy Miles and the nature of the clones, it dawned on me that the aliens in this episode could be the creators of the shapeshifters from later seasons! the silver metal implants and the unknown alloys coupled with basic clones being implanted into human society is what did it for me. Cool to think they might have had the ground works laid for seasons 3 and 4 in the piolet possibly. Also I immediately recognized the Smoking Man and whom he was speaking to as one of the Conglomerate. Man I cant wait for more things that I might have missed that you guys see too!
Hehe I think this might be fun as well to have a running total of bodies exhumed through the series and by the end we shall have our total lol Exhumed body count: 1
Thank you for reading my first blog and joining me in our journey through one of the best Sci-fi series ever. Please leave your comments about the episode covered today, and see you all next time! ~Maple

btw I watched all of these with my dad growing up. Some of my fondest memories. He'd always whistle the theme and make himself + me a mug of chocolate milk and ice cream... odd I know but obviously I would enjoy it cause my dad made it.
I had a great childhood and this was a big part of it. Love that show.

x-files ruined tv-shows for me. For the longest time nothing could live up to the quality of that series.
|
god did I ever love the X-files!
so many great memories for me too, and I have a few of the first seasons on DVD. I tried looking into getting the full box set but they don't sell them new anymore and the collector's edition are a long shot.
I also love hockey too! Me, you and Flaccid should form a club of X-files hockey lovers! Leafs fan here!!
edit: damnit now I feel sad; a new episode of the X-files back in the early days of the series used to air on Friday's on FOX. Nothing can fill that void tomorrow

I loved that show in the early seasons. Lost track of it around season 5 or 6 I think but bought the whole series as a large shoebox last year and was meaning to watch the entire thing sometime soon.
|
Oh the memories :3
I rewatched like the first 6 seasons a couple of years ago. The seasons which focus on the conspiracies and government coverups (Season 2?) are my favorites.
|
Just recently I rewatched all the story-arc-episodes just because I needed to witness the awesome storyline unfold again. I skipped all the monster-of-the-week-episodes, though. So, I guess I'll join you MapleFractal.

I love/loved this show sooooo much, i hated when david duchovny left it basiclly ruined the show ><
|
The starting seasons were great, sadly the later ones weren't as creative/scary. I remember when I was about 14ish seeing an episode one day at my aunts' house where there was this monster living in a outhouse toilet and I was like whaaaaaa.....I gotta watch this. The little grey aliens also scared me. but as the plot moved on to clones and black blood, I thought the scariness died down.

I was so sad when Mulder quit. And no, his name isn't David Duchovny, that's a coverup. It's Mulder. Just Mulder. And I love x-files.
|
I remember the S1 finale episodes.. took place on Skyline drive in VA. Right by my home.
Those episodes scared the @#$@ out of me.
Season 1-6 are really good. 7-9 were OK.
Duchovny recently said they are working on a script for a 3rd movie. Hopefully it will be better than the second.

The X-Files at its best was sublime TV, the writing was so powerful, it made you reevaluate the very fabric of existence.

the freakiest episode i still get scared of is the one where scully is in the forest with a bunch of people and some thing is killing them off 1 by 1.
then mulder finds out that they followed scully back to her motel room or something and he was looking around and they couldnt find anything and they all left..
but then... the camera zoomed down under the bed and you saw these eyes!!!
OMG, ahh!!! and the episode just ended there. wow wtf..
does anyone remember which episode im talking about!?!?

the devil possessing the teacher episode was the scariest for me
One of the COOLEST was when they were in the forest and a lumber company cuts into a really old tree and releases neon green bugs that swarm and devour you in seconds but can't go in the light. So the entire episode is about them trying to stay alive in this distant camp running off a generator.
Another great episode is a similar plot only in a arctic research facility and the parasites were uncovered in the ice... flesh eating of course.

reminded me to definitely start re watching it.

X Files was cool but I don't remember very many episodes. I remember the one about an inbred family since there was some controversy over it or it was just hyped as being shocking or something.
And I remember the movies. I have much fonder memories of the show Millenium

A hundred times yes, this episode still stands out to me after all this time.

Ahh that episode is one of the best too. Mutant inbred family that mates with the mother over and over again So damn spooky.
Millenium was good but tried to be the DARKER HARDER x-files basically. How did that end? Never watched it through it's entirety.

I saw various episodes while it was airing, but only a few years ago committed to actually watching every single episode via Blockbuster online. Have to agree, it is an unmatched series. I think what I liked most about it was the chemistry Mulder and Scully had. You can't find anything like that on TV nowadays.
Scariest episode for me was the one where the guy's head would explode if he wasn't moving fast enough in a car. ha! I watched it when I was much younger, scared the crap out of me.

I only saw that episode once, and I still remember how they pulled the mother from under the kitchen sink or something and she was talking about how giving birth to her sons was no more difficult than making breakfast...
