I devote all of my bandwidth to uploading this torrent, which means that I can't play SC2 or any other game online before the first few have completed it. The TeamLiquid tracker doesn't even have a ratio system, so I'm not doing it to get a better ratio. The fact that it's 50-50 means that many people don't want to use 90+gb of their space for Day9 dailies when they can watch them online. Not all are collector freaks like me, with an SC archive of over 1tb.
all you did was explain how it didn't benefit you but you didn't address everything you're taking away from the most beloved SC2 icon in the world.

Instead of uploading a torrent, posting a guide on how to rip it would be the exact same thing but I guess it'll make you feel less important. (OMG I'm dedicating all my bandwidth to it!). Not that I don't think anyone who wants to download 90 gigs of Sean's babble is completely insane, but if you are that insane it's probably a lot more convenient than clicking through 100s of videos and downloading them. AFAIK there isn't a decent batch downloader for blip. -Also sometimes accounts get deleted (JON747 WHYYY) -Sometimes sites get pulled (stage6 whhyyy) -Sometimes people want to watch stuff on a PMP and need to transcode videos offline -Sometimes people just don't have access to internet 100% of the time but want something to do when they're bored Holy shit people... Be a little nicer to the OP. He said he'd ask Day's permission, and he'll get a flat out no if what any of you are suggesting holds any water.
I understand why people like to have all the videos in their collection (I used to "collect" anime and movies movies myself and I still collect all the GSL videos even though I have premium access for both seasons) but you can go to blip.tv and download it all, stop being lazy.
I mean I'm not day9 and I know he's not making the show for the money and he'll probably say yes but it downright feels like piracy. The dude spends a lot of time preparing for and doing the show for free and you can't spend maybe 30 mins - an hour snagging all the episodes (not counting downloading time) when it's easily accessible?

Okay, if there IS an easy way to get all the dailies from Blip, then fuck it, I'm outta here
OP updated.

Thanks for that. I don't see how this is any better than downloading the torrent though, considering Day9 will lose just as much money if you use jdownloader as torrent.

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to download directly from blip.tv, especially when it is much faster and has a direct "download link" .....
|
I feel like it's not that hard to understand why someone might want the D9Ds on their harddrive - just think what happened to Jon747 and all those Brood War videos. Sure, BlipTV seems stable for now, but who knows?
I mean, I might not encourage uploading it all somewhere for good reasons that others have mentioned before (Day9's ad revenue, for example), but I'm glad someone's doing a backup of everything just in case.

Are you speaking from a position of authority or is this your personal opinion? Bc I hate when admins make statements that are so ambiguous as to whether or not you're making a firm ruling on this matter.
I also don't get why everyone makes a big deal about this. Let the guy upload the dailies and get Day even more exposure. The fact that BW and GSL vids are ripped and shared and streams are shared take ad money and viewership counts away from their respective networks/companies. It seems hypocritical to say the same here. And yes they are slightly diff comparisons bc Day9 is not a big company but the basis of the comparison remains the same (money is taken from someone for which it was due).

I haven't gotten an answer from Day9 yet, but I probably won't do this anyways as I'm playing Brood War lately, and obviously don't want lag.

I thought this was a great idea and actually thought of compiling a torrent myself at one point. One of the reasons I thought of this, other than my hording mentality, was because bliptv is a bit flakey sometimes and it's very irritating.
But I hadn't considered the aspect of losing Day9 money/page views/whatever. Basically he gives the community so much more or less for free, I wouldn't want to be doing anything that made it harder for him to keep doing that.
|
Please don't do this without his permission first. As Day[9] is a really nice guy I don't think we would have a Blizzard-Kespa situation on our hands, but there could be legal ramifications down the line for everyone involved.

Day9 earns money from advertising when you watch his videos on Blip or Youtube. Help him out and watch his videos there!
|
if this is gonna take ad revenue away from day9, then def dont do it
thats not really fair since he does all these shows for free
|
Do you have the April fools day cast by chance? Because I was late and he said he wasn't going to put it on Blip.tv

If one can already download these things off of JDownloader, I don't see why you'd want to upload them as a torrent.
JDownloader can be a lot faster because torrents will depend on seeding, which is inconsistent to begin with. Downloading from Blip directly with JDownloader should give one consistent dling times, so it seems like you'd be wasting your time.
