I currently have all the Day9 dailies(+ all the other stuff on his Blip account, like A boy and his game, countdown party etc) on my computer. I have sorted them neatly, like this: D9D0001 - Flash vs Bisu(don't remember if this is the actual name of the first daily, but you get the point) D9D0002 - Flash vs Jaedong etc.
I've seen several people on forums that want to have everything on their HD, so I thought that I might upload it. I will of course ask Day9 first if it is OK, I just want to find out how many people are interested in this first.
So, the whole thing is probably 80-90gbs, and I can only upload 300kb´s. Would you download it if I uploaded it?
Poll: Would you download it?No (94) 55% Yes (76) 45% 170 total votes Your vote: Would you download it? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No
Edit: I will of course upload it on the TL tracker.
Edit 2: If you want an easy way to get all the dailies, use jdownloader. Thanks for CoFran for this information.

If you want to publish Day[9]'s work, shouldn't you ask Day[9]? Why having a post without having asked him first? What if he says no?

Additional information:
I don't want to publish his work. It's already on his Blip page. I just want it to be easier to get all of the dailies.
Day9 is a busy guy, I don't want to bother him with this before I know if anyone actually want it.
If he says no I won't upload it, obviously.

Definitely! What file format are they in?

On November 16 2010 23:51 Wohmfg wrote: Definitely! What file format are they in?
I just downloaded them from Blip.tv in the standard format, which 98% of the time is .flv, but sometimes they were .mp4.
Edit: Have you voted? Shows 0% for me :/

Ok thanks.
Yeah I voted yes, it's at 6 yes and 3 no right now.

So shouldn't you ask his permission before asking the public opinion? If everyone voted yes, and Day[9] didn't want to do it, then there would be a serious problem.

No there wouldn't. OP would just say "Day[9] doesn't want me uploading his stuff" (which he almost certainly won't do, there's no reason for him NOT to want his dailies to get to more people) and everyone would go "oh ok" and go back to their lives.

day9 is such a nice guy that he might say go ahead anyway. but i think day9 is getting some form of advertisement / rewards when more people views his youtube vids / blip tvs.
Youtube actually monitors what kind of content are getting hits and according to Husky , SC2 fans are 5th most loyal or something by youtube statistics since we keep coming back. This might lead to SC2 contents getting featured more often and what not and this is the kind of things that day9 probably desire.
feel free to correct me though if i'm wrong

No, then I wouldn't upload it, and people, myself included, would have to respect Day9s opinion, there would absolutely not have been a serious problem. Please PM me if you want to discuss this further.

What I meant was 300 kilobytes in a second just to give people some meaning about how long it will take to get the whole thing. I will seed as often as I can, but I can't promised 24/7, but indeed often

Just in case you're not a troll: he probably means 300 kb per second
I would download it but probably only keep some episodes that I'd watch multiple times like the BGH eps or ep 100

Im very interested, mostly because i have the hard drive space and i like listening to them while practicing, especially if the daily is relevant to the jazz im practicing.
Sadly blip.tv has commercial stuff that occasionally pops up and its a bitch to deal with so yes i would love having it on my harddrive. Especially the broodwar episodes but thats mostly nostalgia and since he dosnt have it on yewtube its k.

I actually didn't think of the whole advertisement-reward-thingy, however, only the hardcore fans would download 90gbs of Day9, and I'm not going to upload every single episode from now on. I think that if people get this torrent, they got the start-package, and then they can download and stream the rest of the episodes themselves. (to press download once every day and then renaming that file isn't too much work, it's just doing it on all the 200+ previous episodes that many people wouldn't want to do)
I still stream every episode every day (then download it afterwards)

I'm quite interested, that's a Yes from me.

Dont publish it. Day9 gets a share of ad revenue when you watch it on Blip, and he deserves it considering he has 12k+ viewers at times and does it all for free.
Seriously, do NOT upload them for his sake
Plus, if they wanted to download them they can go on day9's blip or youtube and download them off there, but seriously, don't go leeching off his success please.

when you start a daily on blip.tv, adds.
while you watch a 45 min daily on blip.tv you get interrupted twice by adds.
when you get addblocker addon for firefox. No adds.

Voted no.
I dont know if he's making a ton of money from youtube/blip partnership programs but imho he deserves every cent of it. Anyone has numbers?
And it's honestly not that big of a deal to go to youbtube - watch the commercial and then download (with an addon) or go to blip.tv and download it from their archives directly (but seeing the ad anyway).

I voted no cus I don't want to download that and I can access them online whenever. It would be nice if I really had space for them though.

Adblock Plus takes away like 50% of the shittiness of the internet.

Helps provide the free service though. All the streams we have reguarly are provided free because of these "shitty ads"

Hell yeah, I still got like 300gigs free so why not!

I think its a complete travesty that people are doing something so god damn greedy. If people want to see the videos or download them they can do it directly off blip, or even ues programs to download flv's off the youtube videos, but why should the OP get anything from it or take away from Day9.
Vote no, hell, the fact that its 50-50 now should be a sign that you're doing something very much wrong.
|
Zlasher: What do you mean that I get anything from it or take away something from Day9? I devote all of my bandwidth to uploading this torrent, which means that I can't play SC2 or any other game online before the first few have completed it. The TeamLiquid tracker doesn't even have a ratio system, so I'm not doing it to get a better ratio.
The fact that it's 50-50 means that many people don't want to use 90+gb of their space for Day9 dailies when they can watch them online. Not all are collector freaks like me, with an SC archive of over 1tb.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but is the OP making any money off this idea? It seems like it's something he's doing because he has the capacity and Day9 hasn't been able to upload all the videos.
Also, "the poll is split evenly so clearly I'm right" lol. As if everyone has 90 gigs of space lying around for SC videos.

Yeah, all of them.
I miss the BW days...back then people were nice when you tried helping them.

I don't see why you want to upload them when people can easily rip them from blip.tv if they wanted to... which is probably how you got them anyhow. Instead of uploading a torrent, posting a guide on how to rip it would be the exact same thing but I guess it'll make you feel less important. (OMG I'm dedicating all my bandwidth to it!).
|
Yeah I've actually been on TL longer than you if you count my old account, TL was exactly the same then as it is now. The point we are making is that Sean actually makes a little money off of people viewing his material online so uploading his vods will result in him losing money. It is not difficult at all to view his videos online, so there is no point.

I think I remember seeing that, but I don't have it I'm also looking for a BW commentary with Day9 where he's really hyper and were swearing and just kidding around! I'd put stuff like that in the torrent as well,IF I'M ALLOWED TO UPLOAD IT. The last one I'm pretty sure I've seen on Youtube, so will try searching for it when I get home from the university

I understand why people like to have all the videos in their collection (I used to "collect" anime and movies movies myself and I still collect all the GSL videos even though I have premium access for both seasons) but you can go to blip.tv and download it all, stop being lazy.
I mean I'm not day9 and I know he's not making the show for the money and he'll probably say yes but it downright feels like piracy. The dude spends a lot of time preparing for and doing the show for free and you can't spend maybe 30 mins - an hour snagging all the episodes (not counting downloading time) when it's easily accessible?

OP updated.
|

Thanks for that. I don't see how this is any better than downloading the torrent though, considering Day9 will lose just as much money if you use jdownloader as torrent.
|
I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to download directly from blip.tv, especially when it is much faster and has a direct "download link" .....
|
I feel like it's not that hard to understand why someone might want the D9Ds on their harddrive - just think what happened to Jon747 and all those Brood War videos. Sure, BlipTV seems stable for now, but who knows?
I mean, I might not encourage uploading it all somewhere for good reasons that others have mentioned before (Day9's ad revenue, for example), but I'm glad someone's doing a backup of everything just in case.
|

Are you speaking from a position of authority or is this your personal opinion? Bc I hate when admins make statements that are so ambiguous as to whether or not you're making a firm ruling on this matter.
I also don't get why everyone makes a big deal about this. Let the guy upload the dailies and get Day even more exposure. The fact that BW and GSL vids are ripped and shared and streams are shared take ad money and viewership counts away from their respective networks/companies. It seems hypocritical to say the same here. And yes they are slightly diff comparisons bc Day9 is not a big company but the basis of the comparison remains the same (money is taken from someone for which it was due).

I haven't gotten an answer from Day9 yet, but I probably won't do this anyways as I'm playing Brood War lately, and obviously don't want lag.

I thought this was a great idea and actually thought of compiling a torrent myself at one point. One of the reasons I thought of this, other than my hording mentality, was because bliptv is a bit flakey sometimes and it's very irritating.
But I hadn't considered the aspect of losing Day9 money/page views/whatever. Basically he gives the community so much more or less for free, I wouldn't want to be doing anything that made it harder for him to keep doing that.
|
Please don't do this without his permission first. As Day[9] is a really nice guy I don't think we would have a Blizzard-Kespa situation on our hands, but there could be legal ramifications down the line for everyone involved.
|
Day9 earns money from advertising when you watch his videos on Blip or Youtube. Help him out and watch his videos there!
|
if this is gonna take ad revenue away from day9, then def dont do it
thats not really fair since he does all these shows for free
|
Do you have the April fools day cast by chance? Because I was late and he said he wasn't going to put it on Blip.tv
|
If one can already download these things off of JDownloader, I don't see why you'd want to upload them as a torrent.
JDownloader can be a lot faster because torrents will depend on seeding, which is inconsistent to begin with. Downloading from Blip directly with JDownloader should give one consistent dling times, so it seems like you'd be wasting your time.
|
I don't have a position on the issue but if you have some of the missing episodes I'd definitely like to see them.
|
Why do people keep posting? I already said that I wont do it.
