Say you invented a machine that can freely translate between the two. You take a rock, convert it to energy, and beam it via lasers into space. In space you have a satellite with the same machine that converts the energy back into a rock. The satellite drops the rock and you harvest the falling potential energy, using things like paddel wheels or whatever. The rock reaches the ground finally, where the first machine beams it back into space. Free energy? I want someone to make a troll physics comic of this, lol. There is a solution to the paradox that I learned from a physics class, but its more fun if you didn't know. | ||

An easy way to imagine it is to think about sound, it moves at ~700mph, and its basically a compression wave moving through air molecules. Each atom is connected to another atom by something like rigid springs. On a small scale, the springs propagate the movement really fast, but there is a finite speed. Tapping on the pole to produce a sound should be bounded by the same principal, therefore the signal should propagate at exactly the speed of sound in the solid object.
