iirc, qualifying the next GSL will not get u higher rank, only by advancing AFTER Ro64 do u get higher rank: http://www.gomtv.net/news/256/0
The rank is continued into following GSL seasons, so the players who qualified and played in Season 1 will start Season 2 with the rank that they were granted from their previous results.
Notice that in Season 1 the rank started at Private, but in Season 2 the rank starts at Recruit.
I think those top ~4,6 players on that list are pretty much code S. Also, Hopetorture got beyond Ro8 twice, which free up 1 more spot , and i suspect this GSL will have a couple players who are already code S (from previous GSL) in Ro8.

or unless he works on nothing but zvz of course (which i'm hoping for) ^^,
His ZvZ WAS terrible. How can you be so sure it still is?
I REALLLLY hope he can (and will) make me eat my words
Also, he now potentially has more english speaking zerg practice partners - i.e. ret... if they don't take all their time practicing with each other instead =P
I think you should update the OP with a list of players who have already qualified for S class just to make things crystal clear for those who didn't follow GSL 1 or 2
If Zlasher's iteration of the scoring system is correct (which it very well could be. At the very least it explains the assignment of ranks such as Private, Corporal, etc) then it might be useful to consider the given ranks of each player.
GOM explains their rank structure in this forum post.
I haven't thought it through super well... and I'll have to come back and do that, but it seems you need to attain at least Master Seargent to even be considered for S-Class at this point?
I think it's all based on the number of wins you got and not on the number of times you qualified for GSL. Noticed that they've been using some sort of an army rank system? If you win a match you get promoted etc. So in the end all they'll have to do is to pick the highest ranked players.
I'm assuming that even if you qualified 3 times in a row but didn't manage to win a single game that someone who made only one appeareance but went to Ro32 would be way up in rank.
Only in case of a tie should they look at other statistics like the number of appearances etc.
higher ranks > the rank of 64 *not each rank = 1pt +* i.e : if clide finishes ro4 or finalist(possible winner) he will supersede a bunch of the players you mentioned and will definitely get S class

It's for seeding in tournaments next year and I think specific leagues, these first three GSLs are just qualifiers to determine that seeding.

The system confuses me, but it seems fair to the players who put in the effort to participate in all the GSL open seasons as well as those who were prepared enough to go the distance in a single GSL season.
I would still like to see TLO with an S-class ranking eventually, though.
You are correct. SanZenith is also guaranteed an S-class spot, not sure why it is listed differently in the OP. He had a Ro16 finish and then a Ro32 finish, tying him with EG.IdrA and oGsTheWind.
On my phone so can't check easily, but did he even qualify for gsl3? If he was listed by something else in the r&s thread then that could be a reason, but it confuses me a bit as he isn't obviously in either list there from what I can see. If he didn't then there's obviously opportunities for people to overtake him

I can't believe people still haven't grasped this. GSL1-3 are, as a whole, qualifiers for the GSL season in 2011. These first three tournaments determine the placement of qualifying players in S-class or A-class leagues, NOT GSL1-3.

It's already given that Ro8 means S-class. We're talking about the others.

Yeah, it might be helpful if the OP clarified that we're talking about the remaining spots after the at most 23 players (since HopeTorture qualified twice) from reaching Ro8.

This community has to be an intelligent one as it's TL. However, I think so many people fail at reading comprehension.
Also, if 1 Top 8 is guarantee of Code S it would have to be worth more points than 3 Top 16 finishes
Doesn't look like it was mentioned yet but what about Loner? IIRC he just has the one Ro16 appearance, seems like that would give him a reasonable chance of S-Class assuming a few repeats top 8 this GSL.
How many protoss got code S? Inca, Genius, Tester... and these hopefuls in OP, like SanZenith and oGsMC. So if my understanding is correct, we will see 4-5 code S players come the tournaments in 2011? Well, that will be funny. Not.
Very nice, OP. Thanks for collecting this info. I'm glad you presented it in a way that doesn't make any major assumptions about scoring as some people have a tendency to do.
The one omission I think you made is that I believe anypro is in the same situation as Leenock. He made Ro16 in season 1 and has qualified for season 3.

Just look at the results of the previous 2 GSL seasons. Ro8 = confirmed for S-class. As far as I know everything else is just speculation because GOM didn't reveal the exact system. The roundup in the starting post seems to be very likely though.
